- Mind-bending series hosted by John Newland, your guide to the unknown! Based on true, supernatural events that defy scientific explanation, this show appeals to fans of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.
THE LAST ROUND: The ghost of a prize fighter haunts an east London boxing arena. Legend has it that if you see him, you will die.
My Pop was a boxer in the US Army in 1944, and fought all over England, before he shipped out to Europe. He let me stay up to watch this show when I was a young boy, and I never forgot Paddy sitting in the arena. Years later I saw this again and realized Chuck Bronson was the boxer? Incredible. Makes me miss my Pop even more - he died way too young.
My "POP" fought in WW2 also. He joined the Army at 16 and was with Merrill's Marauders..the first Army Rangers. I also miss my "pop" alot...you're one of the only people to say "pop" in the last 50 years that I've heard. Brought back good memories!
I'm sorry you miss your Pop
I didn't get to know my father but my mother died too young and I miss her every day too, so I can understand.
🙏
These shows have so much class.
Charles Bronson was one of a kind! He is missed. I’d never seen this episode before seeing it here. Thank you so much!
🌹
He absolutely is missed. He was an actor like no other. Sadly there will never be a new Charles Bronson.
Use to love watching Charles Bronson..And yes very sadly missed
Some people were born to be narrators and hosts. John Newland is one of my favorites, right up there with Paul Winfield who narrated one of the earlier TV crime investigation shows called City Confidential.
Did anyone else notice the boxing poster in the locker room? The boxer's name on top was Bolie Jackson. Rod Serling would use the same name for the boxer in the Twilight Zone episode "The Big Tall Wish". I guess Mr. Serling was paying homage to "One Step Beyond" and John Newland. They were both great hosts of great television shows!
John and Rod were friends.
Love that TZ episode😉
Rod Serling is greatly responsible for my interest in the unusual, especially when combined with morality issues - I think it's partly his fault I ended up majoring in philosophy? 😉 I love this show!
I see that I wasn't the first to spot this. In fact, the poster also names Joey Consiglio, Bolie's opponent.
Both series used MGM's studio facilities- and props. "The Big Tall Wish" was filmed in the spring of 1960. "The Last Round" was filmed later that year. Occasionally, certain sets, outdoor locations and props would turn up in both series.
So cool to see these wonderful actors at the start of their careers. Charles Bronson, from the coal mining town..and where he went from here. What a great series. Thanks, all!
If you've never read Bronson's autobiography on IMDb, take a few minutes and do so. Fascinating man, fascinating life.

Wow the great legend Charles Bronson, now that's a man!
Scary music, real events, parapsychology, ahead of their time. A classic.
I'd like to see more old tv series. The old shows were of much better quality than the tv shows of today.
Right , the acting and writing is top notch.
@@mizzury54 They were, weren't they. There were a couple of these episodes where they played it up way too far though

@Diana Howell Awww
And my Pop and I watched the reruns late nights a few years later. Great memories!
I disagree. Twilight Zone dealt with more than the paranormal. It was relative to multiple genres while dealing primarily with the psyche. Don't get me wrong, I liked this series even though I didn't see as much as TZ and Outer Limits.
I love the step beyond far beyond I thought I loved it❤ and here with the great Mr Bronson
I love these old shows
It was a great time to grow up in the late 50's early 60's this Era will never come back again t v back then was so fantastic.
Loving these. My Era. Thanks for the downloads.
Odd that in this episode Bronson says "I'm getting too old to fight!". He was still fighting in 1975 in "Hard Times".
"Speed" was in town then!
14 years later.
I saw Hard Times when it came out. Brooklyn, NY, my friends and l were in the 4th grade. Great memories.

Great find! Always nice to see Chaney in some of his previous fights before he got to "Hard Times", one of the best films Bronson made!

Evergreen classic and irreplaceable 🌹
Bronson was a great actor. He was in some movies that weren’t that great but he was good.
Bronson was either 39 or 40 years old when this episode was filmed. He appeared to be in good shape for 40.

Love from India. I MUST share my experience here. (Please read through the end.)👇👇 49 years ago, on April 11th, 1972 at 8:40 PM my mother had a very bad automobile accident-the autorickshaw she was traveling in was rammed by a military truck. (Please note the date and time.) I was 10 years old with four younger, trembling, and terrified siblings clinging to me. I prayed to God to let our mom remain with us. She remained in critical condition for several months.
My prayers were heard. She was saved. She expired at the age of 89 a few weeks ago.
THE TIME AND DATE OF HER DEMISE?
APRIL THE 11TH, 2021 AT 8:40PM.
Now I thank God/Providence/Mother Nature DAILY for those 49 years allocated to me.
April 11 is my birthday. Bless you, and bless your mother's soul. 🌹
I'm so glad you had so much more time with your mother. We are all appointed a day and time to go home to be with our Lord and our loved ones. It wasn't mother nature but the creator of Mother Nature and everything in and around us.. Our Lord, Jesus answers prayers in so many ways!❤

@@upthedownescalator630 no, I meant the lesser known more localized accents like the Pittsburgh accent or the way people from upstate New York or Michigan's upper peninsula sound.

Charles Bronson always intimidating.
In boxing, when a glove hits a chin that's normal. But when a chin hits a glove, you've taken one step into the world of the unusual.
I love your posts🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love the 3 lady spectators, at 17:30, lol....so remind me of 3 of my Aunts, especially the one smoking the cigarette, She died at the age of 95, after 75 years of smoking....died peacefully, in her sleep. They were all, pretty good fighters, in their own right.
stan ochocki There are some genius docs now claiming if you been smoking your entire life and are over the age of 40 or so when you quit it does more harm than good, I guess after your body being used to it for such a length of time when you remove it your body cell level short circuits and that is what causes cancer ect......... I assume if you smoke for a few yrs then quit your ok.
knew of someone never smoked a cigarette in his life died from secondhand smoke, go figure
I note that "Yank" as the American boxer gets some boos but not too many since the Americans are allies in the war effort. Also, you can see some American sailors in the audience so the American boxer in London still had some support from the crowed.
Some people smoke there whole lives and are healthy like horses. Genetics is a hell of a thing.
Bronson was in great shape in this!
Former Purple Heart winner and WW2 B-29 gunner Charles Dennis Buchinsky in an early role...
Here’s a interesting note, Bronson play’s Elvis’s boxing coach in Kid Calahad
I LOVE JOHN NEWLAND
Bronson had a great body before great bodies were in!
My old man knew him from the Hollywood Y in the 50s. He said Bronson was always in the gym - a quiet, unpretentious guy who everyone liked.

a small funny thing - if you read the opening title in 'usual' manner (top-to-bottom) it's ''Beyond Step One'' - can apply to my AA Life, if people know the 12 Steps, 1st Step is admitting an addiction problem, AA Life (in my case) is going beyond that, all the steps to best of my ability
“The Last Round,” Episode 1, Season 3, aired 10 January 1961. Charles Bronson as Yank Dawson, Felix Deebank as Chipper White, Ronald Long as Sanderson, Wally Cassell as Collins, J. Stewart Taylor (as Stewart Taylor) as Alfie Jones, John Indrisano, as Referee, Gordon Richards, the Doctor, Peter Fontaine as Willie Davis/Ghost of Paddy Terhune, John Newland as Himself (Host), Mickey Golden, Cornerman, and Arthur Tovey, Fight Spectator.

This episode has the biggest variety of accents, it's hard to switch your mind back & forth to understand everybody! 😂 But still a good one, and I bet Bronson probably looked 40 when he was only 6 years old, he's always been old, hasn't he?

The promoter has a poster on the wall of his office advertising a match between Bolie Jackson and Joey Consiglio -- which is the very match featured in the Twilight Zone episode "The Big Tall Wish".

I've seen the actor who played opposite Bronsons manager, Mr Sanderson, but I can't place him, think it was a twilight zone.
Richard Quest went back in time and damn Bronson is a rock.
One of Charles Bronson's 1st roles!
That's not right. In 1951 he made his first film, and from 1952 onwards television series were added
Great 👍
Two boxers that REALLY looked the part. Was Bronson opponent called Jerry Quarry? Sure looked like him!
If I hadn't seen this on RUclips I never would have believed it.
Bronson's opponent looked too much heavier to be fighting Bronson. 🤨
Just think. In 1961 there were 150 million Americans. Now there is 350 million. Back in that year Canada had 18.3 million now it's almost 38 million. WOW! what an explosion of populace.
But the episode takes place in 1944 and it's in that context that the reference to 150 million Americans is made.
Why did John Newland say there were only 5 people in the Arena? What about that old guy, Mr. Bronson's cornerman?
Apparently, he doesn't count as " people ".
18:39 And that Charles Bronson punch at the end of the 7th round. It was clearly AFTER the bell. The ref didn't even give him a warning.
And did the doctor leave the arena in time? What about the police officer and the guy that he'd arrested?
John Newland said "the newspapers called it 'good fortune' because there were only 5 people in the arena at the time..." So that was the official count.
I think if anyone was unaccounted for then their family members would've sounded the alarm to keep searching.
Omg this scared the SHIT outta ME when I was a kid
