- Episode 267, January 23, 2018. While in Detroit to personally hand deliver the Gene Simmons Vault to his fans, Gene Simmons sat down with the KISS podcast Three Sides of the Coin.
During this 20 minute conversation with Three Sides of the Coin cohost Mark Cicchini Gene discusses his massive Gene Simmons Vault Box Set, including why it took so long for the three songs featuring Alex and Eddie Van Halen to finally be released. Gene addresses a couple historical questions that KISS fans have been wondering about for decades; did he spit blood on the first night of the Lick It Up tour and did KISS have to wear their Love Gun costumes on the first night of the Creatures of the Night tour. Gene also discusses his 1978 solo album and how it was going to include Jerry Lee Lewis as well as John Lennon and Paul McCartney. Finally in a topic near and dear to some KISS fans, Gene talks about his hair, yes his hair!

Is it me, or Gene is looking more and more like Muammar Gaddafi as the years progress..
Good job Mark keeping Gene focused on the questions..not easy to do.
I find Gene to be very funny and more down to earth than what e gets credit for Gene is a venture capitalist and he loves the whole game of creating, marketing and selling products. He truly is an American inspiration.
So true
16:13 - The three songs with the Van Halen brothers weren't put out for years because Eddie didn't want them out; but around the time of The Vault, they were. You gotta wonder if Eddie's health problems at the time made him think to change his mind about that.
Mark Cicchini saved Three Sides of the Coin
Sparkletune Official lol
Fun interview with Mark. I wonder if Uncle Gene reacted to Mark's Creatures Of The Night bootleg t-shirt.
Dude, you have just recorded the summit of all SSOTC interviews, once again Three Sides totally knocked it out of the park... I love you guys
So proud of you Mark!! Great job! You look like you're about to start crying tears of joy!
He belongs on The Home Shopping club. Lol
Great job Mark! I bought my Vault Experience for Boston when it went on sale and seeing this interview has added to my excitement. This will be my first meet & greet with any member of KISS so I’m super psyched. Keep up the great work!
Well done Mark, well done!
I don't know this for sure, but I suspect a lot of this music (because of rights) couldn't be released on it's own, but if THE VAULT EXPERIENCE is technically paying to MEET GENE and The Vault is included as a "free" gift...that may have made the difference as to it getting out. Gene may not be able to release it on it's own because of royalties.
I think it's because the songs are just not good?
I like 'em so far.
Everything about this was entertaining and laughed through the whole thing. Good job Mark and, is Gene the PT Barnum of rock at the moment? Lol.. What a salesmen
Yes, and Gene actually demonstrating some humanness instead of the usual unbearable bullshit. Good job, men!
Thanks for sharing guys! Way to go Mark, thanks for making this happen. The last few weeks of shows have been so much fun as a fan to watch and enjoy. I can’t wait to see what you guys have planned next. I genuinely look forward to the show each week. All my best, Cheers!
Gene's hilarious. Good video.
Very cool interview Mark
I can die now...... HAPPY! This tops ALL the other 3 sides shows combined! Thanks guys! Mark u did a killer job!
Thanks for sharing this with us Mark! You rule! 👍
Hey guys question for Mark is the creatures tour your favorite and you did a great job on the interview good questions and good laughs thanks guys for the show
Great job Mark!! Didn't go too "fanboy" on us... (well maybe a little.....lol)Great interview and questions. Gene talking about his over abundance of body hair was priceless!!!!!
Outstanding job Mark!!!!!
Very very cool Mark. So awesome. Great interview too. Fantastic job
Simply great! Thank you Mark.
Gotta love Vinnie on Mark's shirt!
Just me or does Gene at the begging seem he does not want to do this? It’s cool he did.
This was a very fun watch.
Love the supply of Vernors next to Mark in case he got too nervous and need to wet his whistle, or bump of sugar in case of the desire to faint in the presence of "The KIng" ...Good that Gene played along with the show gags and his own well worn repertoire.
Great job Mark. Did you get to ask him what was in the letter Gigi handed him at the final American farewell show?
You had me at Bob Dylan!Zimmy's the man,Now&Forever:)Thank You
Great interview! Thanks Mark & Gene!
Great job, Mark! Wow... and hearing Gene referring to the "Three Sides of The Whatever The **** it's Called". Classic. To have an original guy acknowledging the show... that was cool! Just goes to show how a little idea of having a podcast talking about KISS can grow in to actually having a guy like Gene being interviewed by one of you guys. I love that you asked some deep geek questions. You 3 Sides Guys need to be commended for flying that flag every week. It is truly amazing how long 3 Sides have been able to do that and it isn't the same stuff rehashed. You guys bring an energy and personality and fun to it (to those of us who "get it").
Van Halen was always about Dave and Eddie. Dave played a massive part in VH's success. Way more than Alex.
Most arrogant man on this Third Stone From The Sun. Mr. Gene Simmons. 👏👏👏👏👏✌but also one of the most giving. As a Veteran of the Army I know how much Respect for the Men and Women of the Military that KISS has for us. I've only seen the original KISS preform. But as a huge Ace Frehley fan I have reached out in emails to buy signed stuff that HE was offering, only to be ignored and NEVER got my order filled. So Cheers to you and KISS Gene. From, Utah, U.S.A ✌
Well done Mark!
Love Mark. Great Interview, great questions. I would have been a total geek too.
Mark, Gene and the #SOTC team thanks for this bonus content, enjoyed and appreciated.
Awesome!
Mark very nervous, but fortunate that he caught Gene in a playful mood.
Mark i really enjoy you guy's 3 sides of the coin & you talked me into going with my girlfriend on one of those kiss cruises. Thank's buddy & i look forward to the next pod cast.
If Gene only produced 2000 Vaults and he sells them for $2000.00 that's not that much money.
I hope Mark didn't have to pay 50 grand for this?
What ?? $4,000,000.00 gross profit isn't much money ?? Tell us what is a lot then !! Are you saying he should have sold more than 2000 vaults or charged more than $2000 per vault ? Or both ?
Mark did a great job with this interview
Great interview
Thumbs up from me!! AEROSMITH ALERT in the 5th minute!! 'Would you look at the time?' Blue Kool-Aid Drinker. Peace out from the Southern Tip of Vancouver Island, B.C. Canada.
Great one Mark. I was just hoping you did ask Gene what was on the letter Gigi gave him on the very last Kiss show with Peter :)
But other then that.. Great guest and shows guys . Keep it up
Epic
Mark,awesome!!! Please keep em coming...
Awesome
Ohhhh yeahhhh. ANAZING. Congrats 3 Sides
This was a great interview. Very cool guys.
He wears a creatures shirt with Vinnie❤️
AMAZING
"Largest box set ever" and it's literally a binder/book filled with cds. Just bc you put it in a giant vault box, doesn't make it the largest collection. You could also make a more affordable (or realistically priced) just by selling the book alone without the useless vault. For the size, it should have had more then a crappy looking figure, a coin and random kiss merch. I understand gene wanted to go big and share his stuff, but this was a fail as a whole.
Lmao, Do you go to the expensive 5 Star restaurants in town and criticize them for charging $100 for a dinner and demand they add a dollar menu because its too expensive and not very realistically priced? This isn’t the clearance section at Walmart, they are buying the Gene Simmons vault experience. I can’t afford that myself but I am not going to knock the man. He didn’t deprive you of anything you rightfully earned. Assuming you have a career, how would you feel if some stranger shows up and demands you cut your salary in half because your skills are not worth the wages that you earn?
^ Got to love the mob mentality of kiss fans LOL some of you are just plain sad
Proud of ya mark , great job great interview
And gene enjoyed himself
Gene...please schedule an event in Portland or Seattle!
Check, I think he just announced one in Seattle.
Michael Brandvold March 3rd. Sweet!
I was waiting for the question about the note that Peters girlfriend handed Gene on his last night with the band....what happened to that one?
Wonder where that dude got his remake kiss shirt from? I still have mine from the tour and i don't remember seeing short sleeve black for sale then.
Meatloaf, you should have told Gene about the sheer, soul crushing disappointment you felt as your meat claw dug around the Vault that you bought and the only "gift" you came away with was an unused Monster tour ticket (lot of them out there probably) and a WalMart looking scarf.
By the way this is quite possibly the last of his kind!I love you Gene, tone raven!!!!
outstanding job guys
We all know each "experience level" had a different price. Just what was the "interview the boss level" price? ( whatever you're willing to pay is not a valid answer). And did it involve selling first born, or an after hours invite? Enquiring minds want to know.
Uncle Gene!!!
🤤its Gene Simmons🎶♩🎵🎸👍
Very cool! Well done!
It would be amazing to go on a kiss kruise.
That was bad ass interview amazing one
AMAZING!!!!!! I loved every second of it!!! GREAT job, Mark!!!!!!!
I'm guessing afterward Gene put on his Demon Boots and a jetpack and said "later bitches!" before jetpacking through the window.
Good interview Mark. I tried to talk to you at the Atlanta expo but you seemed like you needed a nappy-poo.
Love the "train ride".
Ol Gene the huckster.
Sooooo frickin' cool !
3 sides of the coin...any reference to 2 sides of the coin..?😏
This, of course, is a phenomenal interview. I can really see the Gene Simmons arrogance in play here and it really rubs me the wrong way. Over the years, I've read him saying it's just his form of enthusiasm, that comes across as arrogance. But I can really see how it must have put Paul Stanley off in the very beginning when they first met. It's just the way he pauses and his facial expressions whenever Mark is speaking. He looks really self-absorbed. I know this is nothing new, but it just seems more pronounced in this interview. Mark did a great job, btw.
O.K Kids This Is Great Shit Here! I love it! tone raven
I love when Mark pulls his shirt out from his left moob, every few minutes. Hot.
Who was making all the noise in the background, and did you want to kill that individual?
Was it a little nerve wracking when the vault didn’t open?
So Mark did you ask Jean hey I wanted the cassette of It's my life in my vault and all I got was a fucking scarf! Lol
This was truly an amazing interview. I loved the 'geek' questions. I only wish there would have been more time to ask more. In watching this, I realized I would not want to sit down and talk with Gene. He is WAY too arrogant and detached, if not dismissive. I can understand that if you've been called God for the last 40 plus years, it's going to fuck you up, but yeah...um...no. But good job Mark!
Well, that got off to a good start. Gene's vault is as empty as Al Capone's
Nothing comes close to TSOTC..... NOTHING
Gene does not like any type of interruption during his monologue. Especially rustling paper.
wow! yOU cATS DID IT
uncle Gene is the best nicest guy i have ever met
Awesome! love it
The vault changed the relationship between fan and band....yeah for 50k!
Except it didn't cost $50,000.
for 2K . I'll wait till some one needs the money
It’s awesome but not realistic, because there are not many people who can effort this....I mean $$$$ 1500,00 dollars 💵 I have not the money 💰 to buy that!
My income is. 900,00 + a month left over after pay my bills is 200,00. 👌. Many people thinking only about what they have a month,i seet his over & over,i hate it
Though I work to....that is the sad story
Gene's right about as when you get older hair starts growing out of everywhere. Im 46 and geez hair grows out of places you never thought it would and its annoying AF
it's cool to see Mr Meatloaf see so restraint like with Gene saying to him, to don't go on like a paragraph, something he must learn i guess because on Three Sides on the Coin he's the only going on and on and on and on! He has passion for sure and is a Major Kiss Fan but it's more how he is.... I Dig Pod of Thunder way more, the relaxed vibe ect ect ect Guys Check it out sometime :)
Ever notice that TSOTC does not try and pimp it's self on other podcast threads but other podcasts trip over themselves to try and get a mention on our show? Gee...I wonder why that is? 4 million views don't come easy my friend...and over 60K YT spins in the last couple weeks guarantee it wont stop anytime soon. No other podcast even comes close. :) (Mark)
mmmmm? 1 i live in Holland and Pod of Thunder are all Americans 2 are you feeling threatned i noticed that over the years you guys are still cool but as i see in your reaction also dealing with ALOT of Bullshit from "Other Podcasts" Tripping over themselves as you are saying...
okeeee well that may be the case but i'm just a regular joe listening to Kiss Podcasts hahaha :) mind you also have listened to 2/3 of the Three sides episodes :)
Mark, Mark, Mark....you blew it. You didn't ask THE question. "Did Vinnie Vincent save KISS?" Don't buy what that other poster says... I produce "Pot of Thunder" (every Friday after Taco Bell). The vibe is NOT relaxed....it's more strained and pushy.
Nice job Mark
I will say, Mark, Technically the Pod of Thunder team aren't pumping themselves here, just one of their listeners. I dig both shows. You guys don't do full on comedy or song analysis like them. They don't do interviews or guests. There's room for both in KISS Podcast world!
a display one lolol opps fail!
mark is by far best guy on this "show" but come on he was like little school girl. pull the trigger on love gun... hehehe. hehehe. i get it he was with his idol
"By far the best"? He's great, and so is Tommy.... although that 3rd guy is just a tool.
Alves, if by "the best" you mean "the worst," then I totally agree with you. Never mind all the absurd opinions, but you could play a drinking game if you go back and listen to all the shows where he got the facts wrong. I don't know if Brandfold didn't realize it at the time, or if he just didn't want to call him out because he was afraid Cicchini would again walk off in the middle of the show and quit (the only good thing Cicchini has ever done on the show). I recently listened to an episode with Hirsh Gardner, and if we had been playing a Cicchini drinking game, our livers would have been more pickled than David Crosby's.
Mark fantastic interview controlling the beast he is.
bla,bla,bla,bla....
,
Awesome!
Great job Mark!
