My brother in law has a nice 33 Ford 3 window coupe that has a 70 454 punched out to a 468. It's got the 70 oval ports on it with 10.5 to 1 pistons. It runs good but he wants more without changing the pistons. So i've been following along and thank god i watched this video! With all of the cheap stuff out there i could have made a big mistake recommending something with a modern chamber. I'm going to call him(he's in North Carolina, i'm in New York) and give him your info so he can order a set ported to go with a bigger solid flat tappet cam. Something that will pull to 6500 rpm hard is what he wants and for a 468 with the standard bore notches already there, should make him happy!

I have 3 Foredom tools with foot speed controls. They are quiet, light and have excellent torque which allows you to run them slowly and maintain control.

Great video! I’ve been waiting for this one since you mentioned it in a previous video. I have a set on my 468 - (4.310 bore) and had done some work to them with the guidance of my machinist. I run pump 93 gas, my car weighs 3890lbs with me and a half tank of gas. With A/C, every accessory, a clutch fan, mechanical secondary 750 on a Eddy RPM and 3.73’s. With only 3 passes and adjustments to tire pressure I managed an 11.83 @ 114. The track i frequented closed the drag strip so I never got to try to improve my times. As traveling to another track doesn’t fit into my life’s schedule. It’s still a blast to drive and the install of these heads some 9 years ago was a breeze. I do have a video of the 11.83 pass so if you have the time - check it out.
Next up for me is a SBM build with the Eddy Victor 61729’s I have. Maybe some day you’ll have a set in a video.
Keep them coming - I love the videos 😃👍

I am anxious to see how these perform. You seem to take great pride in your work. Nowadays it’s “take the money and run “. Plus when you’re dealing with porting ,the customer usually doesn’t have a clue ,other than they “look good”. Trust is a major factor with me, I have been watching you for several years before I pulled the trigger. I have always done my own porting so this is a first for me. Thanks

Eric, I have a question about these heads: Would they bolt in place of closed-chamber rectangular heads?
I have a 427, hi-comp, old-school type bracket BBC. .714" lift cam, with closed-chamber rectangle heads. No porting, but they've been milled quite a bit.
I've been wondering if some better open-chamber heads would bolt in place of them...I know I'd lose a bit of compression, but was thinking the better flow might override that?
Thoughts? I've found loads of folks who say you can bolt open chamber heads on closed chamber pistons, and I did catch that you said these had old-style chambers on them. Wondering if I might get a gain on it from these.

Are the Gm heads that come on the ZZ502 worth porting or would it be better to start with a better head. I think they are a 290 cc intake 225 in valve with a 11/32 stem and a 110 chamber. it's in a 67 camaro ,has run a 648@103 1/8 mile.

There is a lot to work with on the edelbrock 502 heads. To me they remind me of a thicker version of my chevy ZL 1 heads that I semi retired so I don't destroy them. Definitely a better exhaust port. Lots of material to change intake port shape. I figured I'd comment in case you didn't get a reply. I do all my own porting so I know personally.

Head looks good!! Major improvements. I like your porting Setup. I use a similar tool to your slot drive. I port ATV stuff mainly but do car heads for friends and Family. As far as carbide tooling goes try Ebay. Or C.C. Specialty tools. They are in Tennessee. They are expensive but they have it!

Looking to build a pump gas 496, do you think this head is a good choice or marginal flow. This will be street driven so looking to build some good torque. Do you think 600-650 ft lbs is out of the question?

Hi from Australia! Thanks for the information.
Have you ever done a set edelbrock performer rpm oval port heads with the 100 cc chamber?
I got a set cheap and are thinking of porting them for a budget 540 I'm building.
I know they are small for the cubes but I'm looking for tourque more than hp.
    Thanks in advance.

    • @ShawnGilbert1967
      @ShawnGilbert1967 2 года назад

I've had both, went back to back with em as I went boost...I liked the thicker rail at bottom too just felt like it allowed more clamp to the head gasket than the AFR 265s.....
The Brodix fit better, no weirdness with slip collar for dist ect...it was quite a bit of difference in compression so the AFRs were a bit snappier, car felt real similar and it was the only change...
I have zero doubt mine ported by ERIC would out perform them because they were so close box stock....
I'm selling all my stuff btw
