- On March 13, 1975 the Cumberland River flooded the Opryland USA theme park. Alan Nelson and camera crew captured the results of that 100+ year flood on March 14. This shows the flooding of the Park and the Grand Ole Opry House area.
Thank you for these gorgeous albeit sad pictures of the beautiful brand new park under water. Can you imagine all those lovely buildings and rides flooded and most had never been ridden. This was the Opryland I remember as a child and all the beautiful architecture and landscaping made it a wonderland.
Somebody is playing the heck out of that piano, for sure!
I was there in the park when it flooded again in the early 80s. Then I live nearby and it flooded again in 2010...now the mall and hotel.
Thank you for the memories! Love the music!
Thanks for preserving these photos.
How long did it take for Opryland to be back up and running thanks for responding
About two weeks as it opened the first weekend in April...the flood was March 12th.
Correction, the flood happened the day of March 13th. I was called to come to the park late at night on March 12th.
When I was a kid, I used to beg my parents to take me here OR down to Shelby park when the river flooded.
