Surprisingly , i have done this in my backyard 2 years ago and it works.

Western New York..
Dug down as you explained deep in to the CLAY...
Thank yoy!
I love your videos! I live in TX where we have clay soil. Will vertical drainage work on clay soil?
I'll try it , we got a pretty good flood problem after a hard rain .
Chuck! Love your videos! question. I have puddle issues around my driveway. If I wasn’t to do a vertical drainage project. What’s your thoughts on making small holes in the hard pan by hammering rebar in several spots. hammer it down pull it out move it over hammer down pull it out etc. then with the hard pan being penetrated in several spots would the water be able to drain better?
I am in Sarasota Florida and have dug 26” deep hole and I filled the hole with water last night and woke up this morning and the water has not gone down.. my guess is I have not dug deep enogh to go past the hard pan? How deep should I go?
I just dug three holes and I came back 5 minutes later and it was water already at the bottom and as I was digging I also seen white pipe like someone may have had a drainage going through or would that be why it's filling up with water
If I did this as a trench and put maybe 3-4” of topsoil and grass seed would this be worth it? Anything thing more I could do with this idea? I have a slow draining swale in my yard. The swale has been impacted by tree roots causing water ponding.
It would help
I totally fet ut.👍
Great idea
Is there a reason why you wouldn't put a drain grate on all of them or flip side not doing drain grate on any of them?
Just showing how well these work
Thanks for your comment 👍
Is it hard to dig the hole using a post hole digger? I would like to try this but don’t know if I have the strength needed to make the hole.
You can do it!!!
@@appledrains Thank you so much!
You didn't explain how it works. Did you actually dig through a certain number of inches of the hard pan?
Yes
Your hard pan will be different than here.
@@appledrains You said to dig down at least 24 inches. How deep was the top layer? How deep did you actually dig through the hard hard pan?
If you watched the video I just used the post hole digger
I got 12" of silty, loamy soil. below that 30"+ hardpan. my water aint going anywhere but horizontal!
Have you considered using an auger to get through it?
