Heavy rains pound Mwea, Kirinyaga County, submerge homes

More than 700 residents from three villages in Mwea, Kirinyaga county have been rendered homeless after the Thiba River broke its banks on Wednesday night. Property of unknown value was destroyed as flood waters raged through farmlands at the vast Mwea irrigation scheme. Residents are calling for immediate humanitarian assistance at a time when the weatherman predicts sustained heavy rains for the next four days.
