My grandfather brought one back after his time with the Sherbrooke Fusiliers in WWII. When he passed, it went to my uncle and will soon come into my possession. Original holster and magazines. Bluing looks to be in excellent shape.
In my opinion this is best military auto handgun in the world, drop safety, switch take down lever, empty mag indicator lever, loaded chamber indicator... Beretta 92f designers must have looked at this weapon and based there design on it, same with many from Sig-Sauer and Smith & Wesson. Many troops in European theatre captured these and used them, British, US, Canada and Russian soldiers have been caught on camera brandishing a P38, as well as many post war organisations including US Navy Seals and British SAS.
i believe the german divisions that where emplaced in russia to fight were issued the walther p38 and the luger pistols were used on the western fronts in france and such in 1944 until 1945 but they were both basically the two standard issue pistols back then.

Great Video! BTW - What's the rationale in design for the P38 to eject shells to the left instead of the right?
There was also the Luger 08 and some people still used the c96
im not trying to be a know it all but BYF was the mauser designation AC was the walther designation.....
