I haven't even finished the video and love it already. My main guitar is a 1993 American Standard Strat. I feel that these guitars are criminally underrated and to this day, the American Standard's influence lives on despite the name being retired. Will continue watching....
They're available all day long at about $1,000. Mine is a 97 or 98 model. I just put new frets and a bone nut in mine and it plays as well as my custom shop Strat. I agree, very much underrated and the cost is fabulous. You get a 25 year old guitar and dress it up with new pickups and pots for $2,000 including the cost the guitar. If's a great way to go.
Thank you so much! I've been playing and studying Strats and Fender history for 30 years, and I learned a LOT today. Love love love all your build videos too. Only down side, I "blame" you keeping me up too late some nights. Oh well, I can sleep later... But seriously, I just don't understand why you don't already have a million subscribers.
I’ve owned many iterations of the strat over decades including most recently the professional 1 and then the pro 2. I’ve sold them all and gone back to my favourite American standard. To me the high point was the 09 to 2016 era.
I bought the very first year the American Standard was reinstated after the American Series. Musician's Friend kept sending me the same guitar in its American Series form. I had to send it back 5 or 6 times until they finally sent out the American Standard, so I got one from the very earliest run. Anyway, my serial number starts with 'US100'. Or actually, 'US10O'. Any idea what's going on there? Fender dates it to both 2008 (which has to be correct) as well as 2010. The SKB TSA case it came with is dated 2010 also. What the hell's going on here?
Great video and thank you very much for this. I have 3 American standard strats. One first year production, a 96 and a 2007/8 . So all the ones with the stock fat 50’s are from 2008 - 2016? I ask because on the fender serial number database it shows my 2007 as a 2008 with the fat 50’s . I’m not so sure they are though. I’d really appreciate an answer on this please. Great work and keep it up. Cheers! 👍🎸🙏
ive played alot of standards from alot of eras cbs post cbs into the modern standard starting with an 85-85 smith strat with the input jack on the pick guard. the necks wer pretty good early on and never really changed high quality maple is not so hard to find at the time. the first made in Mexico guitar i played was from the first couple runs and found a unicorn sort of. it had a 2 peace body with a center seem and by all accounts looked like a USA body. yes i stripped all the paint off of it and found it was not a normal mim as seen today. ive also had the chance to play a few made in japan guitars and i gotta say they wer on point! in the mid 80s it was the best option available until the new standards came out. i think the new players series is trying to be closer to what the mij guitars wer. if i wer going to chose one of them ide start looking at guitars made between 1989-1993. maby go for an early 92 srv signature strat those wer fantastic guitars! and someday ill find one myself!
20:28 , straight out of the 80's/ 90's samick factory playbook. lol. cunning/hella sneaky. At least the veneer covered the arm bevel on my 1991 MX series strat plus, bookmatched ash veneer even, thickest sealer of all time tho. lol. (i can see why they don't want to promote this history, i had no idea. Most RUclips fender factory videos seem to veer off and focus on the custom shop. truly shocked ANY American Strat ever had veneers for this reason) great vid
So if it isn't vintage it isn't "correct"? btw...I played lots of vintage Strats that were dogs. They were also made from multiple pieces...and not always Alder (ask Eric Johnson...he sanded his and discovered mystery wood in multiple pieces. Late 90s American Standards are great guitars.

Alexey, we're waiting for continuation😇
Translators and understudies will already work. On Saturday I will publish the Russian version, and in a couple of days with the translation.

There are 91s that were not veneered. You can tell by how much black paint is on the back of a sunburst
My 2010 Standard s/n starts with Z.
