ShavingUniverse visits Ralf Aust straight razor manufactury in Solingen, Germany

I met Ralf Aust in his office in Solingen (Germany) in December 2018. He showed me his office, the machines he is using and how he makes custom scales and the honing and leathering of his straight razors.
Since I had more meetings at the same day with other manufactories of straight razors in Solingen (more videos to come), we had no time to demonstrate all steps of the classic workflow from the raw material to the final product. All steps are made manually by Mr. Aust himself. Everything made in Germany.
Ralf Aust is one of the few German companies who still has the know how to produce straight razors in the "old fashioned" way = hand made. He is well known internationally and regarded as one of the best straight razor manufactories in the world.

I am in the process of ordering a Ralf Aust 7/8 straight razor. Can’t wait to get my hands on it!
I am very much surprised that it is such a small company! With the resurgence of interest in authentic, genuine straight razors, it would not surprise me is Ralf Aust expanded and grows his operation in the near future.
I know that I would buy a new one every 5-10 years or so.

I ordered a straight razor starter kit from Beard and Blade yesterday. The razor is a Ralf Aust. Seeing this, I believe I made a good purchase. Now waiting for the postman with great anticipation. I love to support small business and especially a craftsman who takes pride in his work.
