Sanding a Pre-Finished Maple Floor and Staining it "Sand Dune"

Welcome to Niagara Floor Refinishing serving the Greater Niagara area in Ontario, Canada! In today’s video, we’re tackling a particularly challenging floor refinishing project. We’ll be sanding a factory-finished maple floor to change its colour and modernize the home as part of a larger home reno project the home owners have embarked on.
This isn’t just any floor, though-it’s a pre-finished maple floor with a tough aluminum oxide coating. This factory finish presents a unique challenge because it’s highly durable and designed to withstand a lot of wear. But don’t worry, our expert team is up to the task.
Watch as we carefully sand down the maple floor to raw wood to address scratches, UV sun damage, years of wear and tear, and remove the v-grooves/beveled edges so typical with factory-finished floors. We use specialized equipment to ensure that we effectively remove the old finish and smooth out the surface without causing any damage.
Once the surface is prepped, we move on to staining the floor in a colour chosen by our client (Bona's sand dune). The stain enhanced the natural beauty of the maple and gives it a fresh, modern look. Finally, we apply a new satin sheen finish that provides a protective layer while giving the floor a beautiful, subtle shine. This floor was protected by 3 coats of Bona's waterborne finish, Bona Traffic HD, a two-component floor finish with superior scratch resistance.
