      It's so, so good!! It really hits that sweet spot between technical, creative, and musical. One of my favorite solos I've listened to on this channel, in fact. 😁 Thank you for watching and commenting, Marcel!!

    What you have to keep in mind with the plot is that this album is a prequel to a longer story that has already been explored in 6 other albums before this one.

    Marcel Coenen is a must! Therefore Matt is sentenced to do live Ayreon videos from Tilburg with Marcel on lead guitar :)

    The Dream Dissolves is most likely my favourite atmospheric Ayreon song.
    Love the "cinematic hits" and brooding atmosphere, the recurring song title, and THAT climax by Marcel Coenen on guitar, after the beautiful synth solo.

    As per the album credits below, the guitar solo on The Dream Dissolves would be Marcel Coenen.

    Mark Kelly (Marillion) - synthesizer solo on "The Dream Dissolves"
    Maaike Peterse (Kingfisher Sky) - cello
    Paul Gilbert (Mr. Big, Racer X) - guitar solo on "Star of Sirrah"
    Guthrie Govan (The Aristocrats, ex-Asia) - guitar solo on "Planet Y Is Alive!"
    Marcel Coenen (Sun Caged) - guitar solo on "The Dream Dissolves"
    Ed Warby - drums

    I definitely get Petrucci vibes from the technicality of the solo and how speed and technique are integrated into the artistry, but even more importantly, I hear some SERIOUS David Gilmour in there too. The way he structured the solo, its shape, and the way it employs the chord changes to maximal effect really reminds me of one of the best guitar solos ever written, _Comfortably Numb._ Marcel Coenen is one of my absolute favourite guitar players, and if you haven't already, his old band *Sun Caged* is one of the best progressive metal bands I've ever heard. Try something off of their final album "The Lotus Effect" - maybe _Seamripper (& the Blanket Statement)_ or _Shades of Hades._

      OMG. Two of my favourite songs ever... and I'm not a guitarist so I don't know much about solos, but that's a fantastic comparison to draw.

    It's awesome going through your journey of discovering this album, thanks for sharing your love of music and your thoughts! Deathcry of a Race may be my favourite of the album for the gorgeous duet parts, and this incredible juxtaposition of metal, classical european, and Arabic mawal style singing. Zaher Zorgati is the Arabic singer (of the band Myrath), I'd definitely recommend checking them out at some point! Thanks again for the video, and keep up the great work :)

    • @bigg2988
      @bigg2988 3 года назад +2

      Some have said MYRATH are like an Arabic version of SYMPHONY X. :) I wouldn't exactly go there with the comparison, but not because Zaher and the guys lack in prowess... their sound is more inspired by ethnic music, and lighter overall in the latter albums (was quite heavy Prog to begin). However being approvingly mentioned in such company is in itself a serious achievement! \m/

    • @pencilhb13
      @pencilhb13 3 года назад

      @@bigg2988 Agreed with all of this! If you wouldn't mind a word of advice though, I would caution against using the word "ethnic" when you can avoid it. I know for a fact I'm not the only one who feels slightly insulted by my culture's music being called that, haha. Call a spade a spade, Arabic and/or North-Arican music works just fine 🤘 have an awesome day!

    • @bigg2988
      @bigg2988 3 года назад +1

      @@pencilhb13 OK, did not know the nuance, English is not my native language. I might call all that has specific folk aspects Folk, but that would lead to some misunderstanding, since we know Folk is a particular sub-genre that does not closely describe MYRATH's sound. Some terms just add bad rap with history. I am old enough to have had a course called Ethnology / Ethnic culture in university. :) There ought to be an agreement on, in which context a word is deemed offensive, and when it is... descriptive, e. g., of a source from which a certain music springs. But as I said there are probably linguists all over that, I was not aware. :) Peace my friend!

      @@bigg2988 All good! It's a term still used all too often in several languages indeed, but I've really appreciated this conversation and your insight! We shall leave the linguists to it :D Peace to you!

    Nice reaction! I love "The dream dissolves"! Marcel is a really good guitarplayer. I hear a lot of Vinnie Moore in this guitarsolo. More than I hear Petrucci, actually...😂

    That beautiful synth solo was written and performed by Mr Mark Kelly of Marillion.

  • @medk861

    Yes that was Arabic performed by Zaher the lead singer of Myrath, a Tunisian band. That was a verse Genesis 1:3 of the bible. Meaning "and he said let there be light, and there was light"

      Also has he been the guitarist for the liveband for Arjens side project "Gentle Storm"
