"In order for a person to make profit..." 17:00
I am probably missing something but when two people get more done due to cooperating. Lets say alone we can make 10x in a day, but together we can make 30x. If we split it down the middle, I'm paying you less and you're paying me less than what we added. After all, if I/you can only make 10 alone, and with my/your addition we can now make 30, we both added 20. Unless we both get 20 from 30, we're evil exploiters.
I don't think that's how any of this works so I think I'm missing something here.
And since the original 'full amount' is 10... why is it evil for two to get 15? At any time we could buy some raw mats, create stuff, and sell on ebay or some other site for the original 'full amount' of our worth, however much per time that may be (though there are laws and regulations preventing much of that which I can't comment on due to lacking knowledge into laws.).
Furthermore, those who make 15 and don't spend it all, if we assume that it can be used or converted to food amongst other things like entertainment, then the time saved or gained from saving and spending differently than others could therefore be reinvested into means of production which might require the assistance of others, which goes full circle back to the point in co-op. When we pair the option of co-op & the option to self employ, it seems like a substantial amount of 'exploitation' gets removed from the equation.
+blaze armoru
If both alone make 10x, they are making a total of 20x. If they get together and make 30x each one is adding 5x by collaborating, if they get back 15x that's 10x plus the 5x they are making together. Nobody's being exploited there.

"
Bill Gates (& others?) imo takes it a step further, in that his "charity" has the stink of investment/empire-building. Tentatively, I see Musk somewhat differently than this - maybe because I'm a fan of his work and his (imo honest, in spite of his tendency to go for publicity) rhetoric. .

If your job was to uphold the law, and you sentence a person to death row, does that make you a murderer?
@@caleb1031 I would probably say so, of course the blame wouldn't be solely on you (the system that you work within where you are put in charge of deciding whether ppl live or die would also be at fault) but yes I think you would be a murderer for killing someone, even if they deserved it.
@@tombrett590 I think the key part is in whether or not the person wants to participate in the system where they uphold the law via killing. If a government were to designate someone as an executioner in spite of their desire not to, and that person kills someone as a part of that system, I would say that they have done manslaughter and not murder. That murder would be upon the person who made the choice between life and death. But if a person were to volunteer to be someone who either executes people or maybe they volunteer to be a person who judges whether someone gets the death sentence, that person is a murderer because they chose to be in a position where someone’s life was in their hands. This in part is why I agree with the statement, “ACAB” because cops chose to uphold a corrupt and unjust system. No person is born a cop or an executioner, there is a point where they accept that they are okay with murder.

I grew up during that transition from Communalism to "Cyberspace is going to set you FREE!" In fact, I was a big part of it and truly believed computers were going to "change the world for the better". I started out as part of a small software company in the early 80's that had big dreams of "changing the world" but that ended up mostly wrote gaming software or the tools to create gaming software because that's where the money was. So I left. I then went to work for a retail outlet that I was impressed sold mostly Apple products and educational software to schools and universities, with lofty goals of "empowering the next generation with knowledge and creativity" but they were ultimately so concerned about their bottom line that they quite often took advantage of school budgets to sell overpriced crap to eke out a profit. So I left. I then went to work for a "non-profit" hospital to run the Information Technology department, thinking I was part of the machine "helping to save lives", but then had to sit through board meetings where we did cost-shifting of prices that disproportionately placed a financial burden on the poorest people in our community (the uninsured or under-insured), and whose executive management voted for bonuses for themselves while cutting employee benefits. So I left. I then went to work for a public health department as support staff for their computer systems, helping to ensure they had the tools necessary to carry out public health tasks, but witnessed their management systematically conspire to eliminate an employee's job because she came out as transgender (instead of recognizing the public health challenges and discrimination she faced and support her). So I left. Then I went to work as computer support for a mental health organization and watched them place grant money ahead of patient treatment and who fired the manager I worked for because he didn't play the right kind of politics in the organization. So I left. For a short while I was into blockchains and crypto with the hopes that it would revolutionize our economy and help to close the gap on income inequality. Until I saw people using it for ponzi schemes to mass immense wealth for themselves. So I left. I no longer have anything to do with computers - they are just one more tool enabling and in many cases even accelerating the greed of Western culture.
Pontius Pilate was the perfect symbol for this piece. I feel like I washed my hands many times until I finally learned "damn, fool, just don't get them bloody anymore, mmkay?"
Strange question: What country are you from?
I was thinking of going back to school to take up something tech-related, in the hopes of "changing the world for the better"...I don't know what to do with my life after reading this comment 😭😭😭
This was so well written. Thank you for sharing your perspective
I disagree with the correlation "computers = tool for evil" as it can be assumed from your comment. As with any other technology, computers can be used for many reasons and purposes. And it's people who fill it with reason.
Still, technology can shape behavior. E.g., social media a specifically designed to make us spend as much time online as possible. Recent Abigail's video on Transhumanism covers it very well. However, it says more about the intentions of those who designed this software, and not the technology itself.
@@dianamiftakhova5047 My point was actually how even a "good tool" fails to improve human behavior. Technology is never intrinsically going to "change the world for the better". Rather, people being better themselves will. Sorry you missed it.

The problem is that anti-SJWs already have the entertainment focus, hence the large amount of young and otherwise new people "joining the cause," so to speak. This is still lacking for the SJW side in an important way. Kids don't care about research and scientific backing, they are drawn in by the emotion and personality and when they set THOSE personalities as authorities in their eyes, THEN they listen to the actual points. SJWs who want to win people over could be grasping the selfish and egoistic reality of how people operate a bit better. You sort of bring up a question here that I have been asking myself for years now: Can a person living in a society built on injustice be judged for profitting from this injustice, if the society does not allow an alternative?
I live in a capitalist country. I own a laptop. I have to own a laptop, because without it, I would have no chance at my education (I am studying social work, not to be confused with social studies) In my buying this laptop, I supported a system of injustice. The people who made this laptop are exploited and mistreated horrendously. But I use it for studying a subject that will allow me to work in a profession that has litterally been defined as helping those, who have been left behind by capitalism. (If I remember correctly, is was Heiko Kleeve, who said that in his work on system-theory. I might be wrong though. Also I think he didn´t invent system theory.)
Without this laptop, I could not study this subject. I might be able to share a computer with someone else, to do the bare minimum like sign up for exams and courses, but then I still use a computer.
I might decide not to study, do some other work, but is there any work today that does not rely on computers?
I might decide not to work at all, only to be called a burden on society by those who profit from injustice.
But on the other hand, were I to say that it is not my responsibility, because it is the only way to live that this society has shown me, it brings up more questions.
How well do I actually have to live?
I bought this laptop, because my old one had a broken screen. Half of the screen still worked, though. Would it be more accaptable, to keep using the broken one, so that my support for the system would be more limited?
Do I need as many changes of clothes as I have, knowing that most of them are made under inhumane conditions?
When does neccesity turn to greed, when does a need for comfort turn into lazyness?
I have not found an answer to these questions yet.
I think this circles back to the argument, that capitalism is in itself flawed. I see these questions asked a lot and often it leads to a call of consuming less or more ethically. And while I generally agree, there is also the problem of shifting the responsibility of a systemic issue onto individuals who have no choice but to live in this system (meanwhile, of course, the system is nothing without its constant reproduction by individual people).
As with your example of your (or my) laptop which was produced under unethical circumstances. You explain very well how it is nearly impossible to have a job, an education etc. without some sort of technical device. Now that means you are born in a society that expects you to use a laptop, in other words your participation relies on this device.
At the same time I suppose we both live in countries which try to abide human rights. Now here's a dilemma because you cannot have a laptop and both not exploit workers who were involved in making it. However, and here I will argue from an interventionalist point of view: shouldn't the state ensure that the things we (need to) consume are ethically sourced? Is it really the responsibility of each individual to worry about their every purchase. Especially in a consumer society, a capitalist society that fails to function without consumerism? I feel like a lot of times in these conversations the individual responsibility (and impact for that matter) is highly overrated and we tend to forget that the state could very well intervene in the production of goods and set standards for the ways in which products are being made.
I live in Switzerland and two weeks ago we had a referendum about the so called "corporate responsibility initiative". The aim of this initiative was to have swiss companies commit to making sure their production process as well as their suppliers comply with certain standards to protect people and nature. While the referendum gained the people's vote it was overturned by the parliament unfortunately. But this is an example of a demand we are allowed to pose to our governments. So there is no simple solution to our laptop dilemma, especially not one that we as individuals would be able to apply, but there is a possibility of setting (ethical) boundaries to a free market that violates human rights in the production of consumer goods. And I feel this is sometimes missing from the discussion about consumerism and buying ethically etc.
@@heimwehwonach809 To quote the amazing Katy Stoll: "I agree with you completely"
Easy. Do your best. If you're really concerned with the ethical side of your purchases, make the effort and buy something that is "less unethical", and preferably only things that you need.
In the end of the day, you have to live with yourself, and you're only responsible for yourself. Who knows, maybe grassroot movement manages to change the system - it already did many times, there have been changes to the manufacturing processes and trends that started this way.
Your concerns pinpoint, for me, the absolute evidence that we live in a capitalist dystopian world, where although some try to fix things, the capital already won and we are just running in a hamster wheel producing gains to the masters, believing that if we run in a certain way, either slowly or fast or whatever, we will change things.
We are trapped, just that and, again for me, the only way out is either a catastrophic natural event or a painfully slow process. Anyway this was typed in a phone made by slaves. So yeah.

slaves are too expensive and are too much responsibility, it is best to put human ressources in common through a self managed lending system than to privately own them.
jean f No, slavery is cheaper. Make them live on their own while owning them and forcing them to perform work that you see fit. There’s a reason why slavery was defended by the Confederacy and is still practiced today in many parts of the world.
The sole reason why corporations don’t use slavery is because it is considered a huge global taboo and is internationally illegal. If it were any less and they wouldn’t even hesitate to use slaves.

I wonder when people will stop idolizing rich people and start recognizing their guilt and how exploitation got them where they are
aw How more obtuse can you get? It is this attitude that makes people cower and not build themselves and become competent instead of remaining faceless and namesless and not being able to make history.
Othmane Anani Do you know Stalin? He wasnt a capitalist and is famous.
@@naj4261 Yes but he's not competent or on the right side of history and certainly not rich. He was responsible for the death of millions in Ukraine (1929-1931) that starved to death and then capitalized on canibalism.
@@othmaneanani8995 Bla bla bla...
Fuck the rich.
sali Your question is a logical fallacy. The death of people in Ukraine was because the communists took the harvest of the year, torn down the land owners and sent them to the gulag. A year after, and because there was no land owner to invest and circulate the economy by hiring farmers to farm lands and therefore everybody at least would not be starving, people started starving and then turned into cannibals. Because the only time people would be starving under capitalism would be because there is something out there that stops the economy and you can't do anything about it like the black Thursday 1929 where the government would try to make banks cut the interest rates and cut the taxes to loosen things up but the only reason why people would be starving under communism is because there is an inherent feature that fetters people from thriving and try to hand down a piece of bread and failed in the long term like the Holodomor famine 1932-1933 in the Soviet Ukraine. There is no incident in the history of capitalism where the rich is getting richer and the poor are eating themselves except if there is crisis that affect both classes or if the poor are outside the hierarchy of capitalism like in some countries in Africa and I am african so I can vouch for that.
Now my question to you would be to give me any of moment where the capitalist economy is thriving and the rich is getting richer but there are people starving, any moment of that? And please don't you ever use frivolous thinking and actual produce some intellectual thoughts
Abby, you are a damn fine actress!
One of the examples of Liberal Communism that struck me the hardest and gave me the most cognitive dissonance was when I went into a local corner store and found Che Guevara branded Energy Drinks there. And I bought one. Ironically. When I finally got home, I just stared at it on and off for hours and had an intense feeling of cognitive dissonance, and in a sense it was one of the first real encounters I had with The Absurd (as Camus describes it) as a teenager.

"You can throw as much money as you like onto a sheet of metal"
Amazing how you were able to pin down the manufacturing process of the Cybertruck a year before its debut.
Obviously this is a fun joke, but the point is "throwing money at something" in the figurative sense still involves employing people in alienating work (especially alienating because what they are working on might not even benefit anyone at all)
Whereas his point about throwing money at a sheet of metal is literally just throwing money at it. Money on its own does nothing, you need wage slaves to actually get work done and generate the wealth you want.
Well, if you throw the money at it too hard the windows’ll break.
@@bravetherainbow
"(especially alienating because what they are working on might not even benefit anyone at all)"
So all innovation and risk is evil? We should be shackled to tradition just in case we accidentally fail?
In the early 1900's dozens of automobile start-ups popped up - most created single-digit units of prototype proof-of-concept cars, failed to find investment, and went bankrupt. Oh, how evil, how malicious Karl Benz was for daring to own a gasoline engine factory which led to the creation of the automobile! How many man-hours of work were wasted due to his shenanigans! Instead of leeching off enough money from his employees to make a vanity project of an autonomous carriage, he could have paid his employees a bit more instead. Who needs tractors, trucks and mass transit anyways?
@@roadent217 You could literally justify slavery with the argument you're making. If we just enslaved a whole race of people think of the amazing things we could accomplish! The slaves won't like it but that's too bad, we need INNOVATION
Also lol do you really think if Karl Benz hadn't ever existed then we still wouldn't have automobiles in 2020? Why would you ever think that? Do you think Karl Benz had magic powers?
My point was that there is a huge difference between A. trying something of your own accord that ends up failing, and B. being forced to work on someone else's idea that you have no input in and you get no credit for, just so you have enough money to pay rent, which ends up being useless anyway.
@@roadent217 As long we enslave everyone in Europe we can have infinite renewable energy. It’s innovative for sure and the technology will definitely be helpful so it’s justified right?
This topic deserves a 2nd edition. After Mr. Elon went full bananas and pretty much revealed him as a comic-book super-villain.
Look for a recent appearance on Joe Rogan in the height of covid which he was super frustrated (with what he kinda called mass delusion) and scary (tried to present that way) and talked about how people should get loans in order to afford getting Neuralink® chip into their heads and outperform the competition and succeed in the market (Even Rogan was like "wait, wat?").
So, you said "went full bananas" in past tense and it's been a year, I think I've got some news from 2022 for you...
Coming to you from the future, the cusp of 2023… it got worse. We need two more videos at least.

It’s honestly a shame that Nikola Tesla became one of these Comprehensive Designers, he really did want to use his technology to help people regardless of corporate profit. In fact his plan for free, wireless electricity was shut down because it would essentially destroy capitals control of energy.
Blame fucker Edison
given enough time, anyone and anything that opposed the system, will be recuperated and co-opted by the system. again, Che Guevara t-shirts
I really hope the thing about wireless electricity is an irony on your side...
WinglessSparrow why on earth would it be? Regardless of whether or not it worked, the idea of free energy for all was done against the wishes of Tesla’s capitalist benefactors
@@dylanchouinard6141 It didn't worked out, because, my dear friend, you will need so much electricity to power this "free energy" machine, that the complete country wouldn't be able to support it. It's theoretically possible, but factually impractical. It's like Drinking water from a cup, but the cup is 20 Meters above you and it's very windy and you are trying to catch those water droplets by standing in one place, and in addition to that the stream of the water is very limited. Tesla wasted a lot of his genius, time and money on a completely useless idea. But props for the alternating current thou.
The quote, “there is no ethical consumption under capitalism“ is the TL;DR version of this video ❤️

"Elon Musk was born in South Africa in 1971 having previously owned a slice of PayPal"
No wonder he has an advantage, he owned PayPal before he existed and before he was even born
Wasn't he the heir to a blood diamond fortunate?
No... Elon Musk founded X.com himself, which later merged with another company in 2010 (MUCH after he was born...) to FORM PayPal. He actually immigrated to the United States and was dirt poor. He worked blue collar jobs for a year and lived in poverty for a long time, look it up. He paid off his student loans by renting his apartment out to throw huge bangers. the thing you said round 22:30 reminded me of something my dad told me. He works for the UN and soon after my 18th birthday I spoke to him about his personal responsibility in world issues and his role in all of it and he told me that he realised recently that he used to have the same passion as me but lost it somewhere on the way- as a kid he vowed to make the world better so he joined the system to change the system from inside, but eventually you get sucked up in the system and forget why you joined in the first place.

Abigail, your videos are amazing!
I think about the pontius pilate thing when people say "there is no ethical consumption under capitalism" which is true and can be a valuable thing to say, but the context with which its used sometimes feels like a dodge, like they're less saying we need to get rid of this system which is inherently unethical and more saying "im innocent of this man's blood". same sentiment when that's your answer to someone bringing up the exploitation inherent in a good you've bought.
oof, i completely agree
So there is no solution, and we’re just circling the drain playing the blame game while the world just fucking burns.
See, this is why we need things to actually start happening. So we can quit playing a tug of war on guilt and start actually carving up the planet into ideological government and economic systems.
