Around episode 7 the topic should be how to maintain marriages and finding secondary employment to get the kids through college lol. Great bid Mac I think this series will help tons of people that want to come play.
This may be the best "budget" 3 Gun starter Video series i have seen. I shoot an old Winchester 1200 pump, a 10.5 (stamped) AR in .300blk, and a Staccato XC or CS
Just found this video. I am a brand new shooter and I just discovered 3 gun. It looks like so much fun and your video is so informative without being overwhelming so thank you.
Your wrap up hit the nail on the head. I just got into the sport at the end of the season last year and I'm Hooked! I used stock pistol, ar and a pump shotgun that really showed how limited I was but how much potential there is. I've since upgrade my guns this winter and hope to give some of the guys a run for their money!
Just went on a trip to the range with my buddies and made an impromptu 3 gun course and I have to say it was a lot of fun. a couple of buddies are fairly new to shooting and they had a blast. I am going to watch the rest of your 3 gun series for good information. As always Mac great job on the videos, they are much appreciated.
Yesterday a local range had a 3-gun class. I've never done it so I went. I carry appendix and didn't know there's no appendix in 3-gun. There ended up being 3 instructors and 3 of us in the class so it was great. Lots of time for questions and even just laughing. They just had me stage my pistol (Canik TP9SF) in a box even though they offered me their competition belts/holsters. My only shotgun is Mossberg 930 SPX and I don't have an AR so I took my Zastava/Yugo AK variant. Man I loved it and had so much challenging fun. Ended up being offered two different pistol caliber carbines too, so that waa fun. A JP Enterprises GM4 or whatever it's called and a CZ scorpion. They're having mind of a variation on 3-gun today with a 2-gun competition, handguns and the PCCs so that's why those were out yesterday. All in all the best day I've had in a long time.
Here's my follow up. Had my first 3 gun match last month. Didn't do as well as I hope, but still had fun and will be shooting again in March. Its different from cowboy action shooting, its a fast paced sport and you are trying to compete with the other shooter. My first match I had a Stoeger m3k, with a 6 plus one extension tube., loading port Modified. PSA ar 15 , with Vortex Green/Red dot and Nordic Components free floating hand guard. Pistol was a Glock 17 9mm stock and a Double Alpha belt.
Getting the ball rolling finally on my 3 Gun dream. It’s a bit hard find good beginner info. You keep it real, I very much like the AR and 9mm I have. And really tired of being told I need a Ferrari to compete. I’m more than adequate with what I have. But I don’t have the heat and your video is dead on all the info I’m needing. Thank you!!
I have a Max Michel P320 9mm, a Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 20 gauge shotgun (semi automatic), and a Tikka T3X TAC A1 6.5 Creedmoor bolt action (just bought it for competition). Will these work for the 3 gun competition?
Great Video... I was curious about 3 gun and your video is by far the best I have seen so far. Thanks for sharing the valuable tips on firearm selection and the other must-haves. Looking forward to your next episodes.
Thank you for the video. Just started looking into 3 gun and found a local gun club that has a open competition once a month for a $10 entry fee. Just need to get a shotgun.
Great video, good info. This and the advice you gave me yesterday helps alot. Thanks for meeting me yesterday to. I've already been practicing loading the shotgun.
Could you use a lever action rifle to start in 3 gun? Or is there a class that would allow a lever action rifle, pump action shotgun, and semi auto pistol configuration
This is a very informative video series. Thank you for posting. Are you still using the Safariland ELS belt system? I am having trouble deciding between that, CR Speed, Bladetech, and AA. Opinions on the matter?
I'm looking at at least one 3 gun comp this year. I have the guns: my first handgun: a Walther PPQ with 5" barrel that's become my range gun (still need to replace the factory sights), a Bushmaster MOE M4 carbine clone and I have a Stoeger M3K on order. But yeah, I dumped a ton of money just yesterday getting ammo, spotting scope, sling and front sight tool. I really want to compete this year.
Great vid man. Just starting to research getting into 3-gun & this helped allot. Look forward to watching the other episodes for MOAR knowledge! Question. How well suited is a Sig SP2022 9mm for 3-gun? I'm guessing I'd need to do a few mods, but overall I'm wondering if it's viable in the long run or if I'd have to upgrade?
LOL. In the Philippines the license to own a gun is 100$ A single firearm registration is 100$ and Stock Glock 17 here is around 1000$ And that's all for one gun. Not to mention the stupid ass gunban in place 3 Gun in the Philippines?? where the average daily income is 5$?? I don't think so lol.
Tons of great advice across all the vids and on a personal level you just come off as an honest, average, cool dude I'd love to shoot with:) thanks for the vids!
do you have to have a gear belt or can you use a vest. I'm looking into getting into 3 gun and have a VERY limited budget. I have a vest at home so I would like to avoid having to buy a belt and extra gear if possible
Wanting to get involved in this with my son. I currently have an M&P 15, so ok there. However, I have a Glock 36 as my EDC, which I would like to use for the competition. Would that be an acceptable option in the short term? Thanks for the great info, definitely helps me understand what I need for a beginning shotgun.
Would be totally fine to start out but I think you'll eventually want something in 9mm. 45 caliber in handgun puts you in heavy metal division but the 223 AR keeps you in tac ops, so you're kind of straddling two divisions. Also I doubt your son will enjoy shooting 45 very much and it's gonna be more expensive for you on ammo.
Most matches will have some sort of fee to cover the cost of targets. Small local matches are usually 10-20 bucks. Major marked entry fees are a good bit higher, usually a couple hundred bucks. But the prize tables are also bigger, and every big match I've ever shot it I took home enough from the prize table to easily cover what I paid to shoot.
Thank you so much for doing this series! I have my first 3 gun local match in 2 weeks. I'm an OK IDPA shooter (with my Glock 34), good shot with my AR, but by far, I'm more of a shotgun guy (trap / skeet). I have the Mossberg 930 JM Pro, so I should be good there. My question is, I have the Vortex Strike Eagle 1x-6x on my AR, would that optic put me in a more difficult division? Not that it matters, for me, a victory in the first event will be to finish without being DQ'd.
Basically if you want to buy a gun for 3 gun then here's your best option Ruger AR-556 with a lighter trigger Glock 17/34 Mossberg 930 JM pro although I think you should add a few hundred dollars and buy the FN SLP
It would be nice to have a handgun (which is somewhat boring) and shotgun combo. And if the rifle still has to be there - something like a bolt on rifle for long shots with iron sights, and not this boring AR platforms. But best would be to have only a shotgun which is the most fun of it all
Karl427 Pretty much everybody uses gear belts in 3-gun, I've never seen any experienced shooters using vests. Saw some from some fairly new shooters but they are really not ideal.
How do you feel about buying a pre-owned gun and swapping out the different parts wanted? I want to get into the sport but don't currently own the required types of guns for 3 guns. Should I stay away from used for my first 3 gun rifle or would it be ok just to get into the sport?
Buying a new complete rifle may be the way to go as a newcomer. Then you can add parts you see fit. If your knowledge of the AR`5 platform is limited, stay away from used. You don't know what went into the build
How much capacity 3-gun ready shotgun must have ? I think I heard there are restrictions for that on certain divisions of 3-gun. Should I get 8+1 ? 9+1 ? Or something else ? Please advise.
+Patrick Tilley it's ok to shoot other gauges but the only one I have ever seen anyone use is 20g. There are virtually no shotguns made in 16g that would be appropriate for 3-gun and 410 is not powerful enough to knock down the typical steel targets
+nick holland Not really designed to withstand the long courses of fire in typical matches, resulting in failures, and lack of aftermarket parts. Its an older design, and at one time I thought about trying one in 3-gun, but essentially nobody uses the 1100.
Ok well thank you again very much. I have really been wanting to try and get into shooting competitions but very few are here in nys around my area(near syracuse). I also have an older mosberg 500 that I could use to switch back and forth until I figure out which would be easier for me. I just really enjoy guns and shooting but only have shot clays and still targets in the back yard.
I wanted to dump an addendum. I got my Stoeger M3K, the competition version of the Stoeger M3000 turkey gun, for about $600 w/ fees and taxes. I've put 165 shells through it (40 slugs, 50 7.5 shot and 75 8 shot with one failure of the bolt to lock back). Kentucky Gun Company, for those that want to know. I've also got a +5 extension tube on it. You can go Nordic, but I decided to go MOA precision. They specialize in Stoeger guns. About the only other thing I could probably use for it is some recoil reduction. Now, I have the guns, but I need the other gear: AR15 mag holster (at least one) and shell caddie. I'm looking at a TACCOM, but invictus looks good as well, though heavy on the wallet. I also got a Completion Electronics Pocket Pro Shot Timer from Midway (on sale for $109), so I'll be able to judge myself and work on issues. I'm going to try to get at least one competition in this year.
If I didn't have to work 40, 48, or 56 hours a week, had a lot more money, and didn't have to drive 3 or 400 miles to a match, I might try it. It's easy to see why such a small number of the 100 million gun owners in this country are competitive shooters.
Great video! Thanks for the awesome info. I am wanting to try 3Gun, but I only have a S&W Model 59, a plain Bushmaster XM15, and a Mossberg 500 Hunting. I didn't think I could try 3gun yet, but now maybe I'll give it a try!
Around episode 7 the topic should be how to maintain marriages and finding secondary employment to get the kids through college lol. Great bid Mac I think this series will help tons of people that want to come play.
I haven't figured that part out myself nick!
+BullittMcQueen season 2, 3gunning and divorce court. Lol
+Rican240sx You'll be responsible if I ruin my marriage.lol
LOL who gets the bird?
In 2022, its how to find secondary employment to afford a studio apartment
This may be the best "budget" 3 Gun starter Video series i have seen. I shoot an old Winchester 1200 pump, a 10.5 (stamped) AR in .300blk, and a Staccato XC or CS

TY. Where do the heavy metal frame guns come into play? Like CZ Shadow etc. Just wondering. ... Oh, gonna watch #2 ....
So far I'm good to go on gear and ammo just need to warm up for fun

little synth jam in the front made me smile...nice
and thanx for sharing the series
I'm pretty excited about this series. My eight year old is interested in this. Thanks for taking the time to put it together.
+Vaughn Blaylock Thanks Vaughn! I'm glad you are enjoying it

Just discovered 3 Gun and have been looking how to start. Very excited about finding your videos. Thanks.
+X32BBFY That's great, thanks!
I have a Max Michel P320 9mm, a Benelli Super Black Eagle 3 20 gauge shotgun (semi automatic), and a Tikka T3X TAC A1 6.5 Creedmoor bolt action (just bought it for competition). Will these work for the 3 gun competition?
Been eyeballing the Mossberg 930 JM. I need a comp shotgun. Thank you for this video!
As a complete beginner, I appreciate your vids, the info you provide is very informative & your attitude/presentation is outstanding
Thanks jimmy!
Can i use a hi point 9mm😁.
Kinda wanna get the worst possible combination for 3 gun and show up just for the laughs
Great Video... I was curious about 3 gun and your video is by far the best I have seen so far. Thanks for sharing the valuable tips on firearm selection and the other must-haves. Looking forward to your next episodes.

Great video Mac... 3 gun is really starting to pick up over here in NZ. Looking forward to the next video!!
Thanks Chris! Thanks for watching half the world away!
This comment has not aged well
Well, it would've had the gun grabbers not had their way.
Thank you for the video. Just started looking into 3 gun and found a local gun club that has a open competition once a month for a $10 entry fee. Just need to get a shotgun.
Nice, did you compete?
Great video. Never knew about 3 gun till this video

Thanks Ken

Great to meet you Doug! Good luck next weekend at Pinetucky!
Could you use a lever action rifle to start in 3 gun? Or is there a class that would allow a lever action rifle, pump action shotgun, and semi auto pistol configuration
VERY helpful series!! Thanks so much for taking the time to do this. I'm just beginning to dabble in the sport and it's so good to get some insight!
Thanks for watching!
Great video as always Mac! Can't wait to watch this series!
Thanks Tim!
Is there 3 or 2 gun that uses .22 lr. Pistol and rifle .just because its cheap..other than the shotgun..just wondering

Thanks Jeff!
Awesome video! Your video cleared up a lot about 3 gun, I'm glad I found this series. You got me subbed!
Thanks for subbing!
thank you sir for the informative video, this is the best one for 3 gun on a budget that ive found out of maybe 20
cash plus cash plus cash plus cash just never ends.
Great info, very eloquent, nicely done, thanks!

Can use a m&p 15-22 in 3 gun even though it is a 22 it is a ar15 style
do you have to have a gear belt or can you use a vest. I'm looking into getting into 3 gun and have a VERY limited budget. I have a vest at home so I would like to avoid having to buy a belt and extra gear if possible
+John Waters You can start out with a vest but as you get more serious about 3-gun you will need a gear belt

+Tokenontwo Thanks! Glad they are helpful!
Mac, I must say GREAT VIDEO MAN!! looking forward to the series. Hopefully I will run into you guys at the Noveske Match.
Thanks Oscar! I am going to try and make it to the April match.
Good deal, Hey DEF try to make it to the next Tarheel match at Clinton House Plantations. I'll remind you when it comes up.
Thank you so much for doing this series! I have my first 3 gun local match in 2 weeks. No that is a fine optic for tac ops division. Good luck!
Basically if you want to buy a gun for 3 gun then here's your best option
Ruger AR-556 with a lighter trigger
Glock 17/34
Mossberg 930 JM pro although I think you should add a few hundred dollars and buy the FN SLP

Excellent video
Good info, good simple presentation. Suggestion: park the Glock in a holster, it was a distraction. I figure it was made&shown clear. :)
Thanks for your comment. I left my gear belt at home, therefore I was minus a holster. :)
Nice video!! A lot of helpful info.
This is an encouraging video. Thank you!
Thanks for watching Eric!
shopping around for shell caddies how many should it hold is there a minimum like 8 shells or should I get 12+ ?
Get the largest you can fit on your belt. I'm on the small side so 8's are best for me. I would rather have 12's though
Cool thanks
What if your state has magazine restrictions or ar restrictions how do they get around that?
Thanks man
A good ankle protection foot wear is a needed it seems for this.
This is going to be a series!!!! Subscribed!
abyss1232 Check out all 3 episodes that I have released so far!
BullittMcQueen Awesome!!!!! Great job!
Jerry Miculek made a video about shotgun speed loaders. Would they be legal?
+Brad Gribbins in open division yes
Thanks for doing this! Great job, great info!
Just entered my first 2gun for this Jan two stages how much ammo do you think I'll need (pistol/rifle)? Thanks
+Nics574 if they post a round count on the stages then take twice that amount
Thinking about getting into 3 gun, I have a glock 19, sport 2, looking for 930 mossburg, My question is can i put an optic on my glock.
You can but you will be in the open division
Can you use a ruger 10/22 with a surefire red dot and ruger 25 round magazine?
Itz_xpert no
Do you have to use a gear belt?
What about an lbv and drop rig?
I have a 22 AR would that work for 3 gun shooting
looks like I'm late to the party but this was very informative!
Thanks for watching John
How much capacity 3-gun ready shotgun must have ? I think I heard there are restrictions for that on certain divisions of 3-gun. Should I get 8+1 ? 9+1 ? Or something else ? Please advise.
+Alex Ivanov factory division is 8+1, practical you can run 12+1, those are really the only two configurations anybody runs anymore
This intro music makes me want to hip thrust in random peoples face. I feel like I am at a early 90's rave.
What do you say about using a da sa hand gun such as a beretta px4 Storm?
+Nolan Hight Will definitely work but I don't have any experience with that one in particular.
Are Shotguns that accept magazines allowed?
Does it matter what kind of Calabar
Thanks for the BoomerShooter.com shout out!!!
It's one of my favorites JT
do you have to shoot 12 gauge in competition or can you shoot 16, 20, or even 410?
+Patrick Tilley it's ok to shoot other gauges but the only one I have ever seen anyone use is 20g. There are virtually no shotguns made in 16g that would be appropriate for 3-gun and 410 is not powerful enough to knock down the typical steel targets
Leg Rig for the pistol frees up some real estate
thank you for the info, I've subscribed, watching the series
Thanks!
Great video. Thank you for the information.
Super informative, thanks!
I read that remington 1100 were not liked for these competitions. why is that? thanks in advance
+nick holland Not really designed to withstand the long courses of fire in typical matches, resulting in failures, and lack of aftermarket parts. Its an older design, and at one time I thought about trying one in 3-gun, but essentially nobody uses the 1100.

BullittMcQueen Mac, how big a shell carrier should I get?
Great video , Thanks
This is the info I was looking for
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
good job!!!!
This was a good intro. Thanks
Is there an age limit, because I'm 14 turning 15 in February and do competition shooting for 4h and 3-gun look very fun to try.
+Glorious Guns Lots of juniors shoot. No age limit
Ok, cool
anyone know of any three gun events that allow .410 bore shotguns.
Great video! I thought I recognized Broc in one of the opening clips.
Thanks Heath!
Nice video. Thank you
would a franchi 48 al work 4 a shotgun??
If I didn't have to work 40, 48, or 56 hours a week, had a lot more money, and didn't have to drive 3 or 400 miles to a match, I might try it. It's easy to see why such a small number of the 100 million gun owners in this country are competitive shooters.
I only have a simi automatic shotgun out of all of these
Great information
Very good video, thanks!
Thanks!
What happened to episodes 5 and up? They used to be here on youtube.
+Bruce Bennett Haven't been uploaded yet. Episode 5 is done and will be posted in 2-3 weeks

Thx for making these vids!
Thanks man really helped. I have. Walther P99 40 what do you think of this weapon for three gun?
+Newguy2it Will work just fine to start. Pretty much everybody in 3-gun shoots 9mm though. Shoot the p99 first though
can I use my mosin nagant , h&r single shot and my Hi point ? (sarcasm)

awesome info , thank you and yes i sebscribed
+Cactus Matt Thanks Matt!!
