I was born and raised here in the States, and my mother was born in the states her mom and dad went back to Malta just before the war. They came back to the states after the war. My family is from Zejtun. My mother and her entire family are buried in the family crypt in that cemetery. My cousins have taught in the school in Zejtun. . My Great Aunt, Aunty Pia was one of the nuns that helped start an orphanage in what is now the Institute after ww11. My graet uncle Giuseppe Caruana did the painting in the chapel in that institute. I have a lot of family history in that town. My mom's funeral service was done in St. Gregory's. My dad and her retired in Malta

Zejtun does an amazing parade for Easter. I was there one Easter. One of my cousins got us chairs, because it takes a couple of hous. They go through the whole Bible. The costumes all look authentic. It's amazing. I have never seen anything like it.

What a fantastic village, grand beautiful old buildings, I agree with you a wander around the village would be awesome, so much to see it all looks original. That was magical, I can not believe we have never been there or if I have I have just driven through. This is a must for our next visit. Thankyou very much Steve. 😍👍

Hi Steve,a very interesting walk.Zejtun which is in Malta's south is divided into two parts namely "Ir-rahal ta' fuq" (the upper village),the part from which you started your walk and which leads to Marsaxlokk, and "ir-rahal t'isfel" (the lower village), the very old part which leads to Zabbar, and where you'll find a number of bent narrow streets and alleys, which in the event of being chased by invaders,in the old days one could easily escape and seek shelter.Girgor is Gregory in Maltese. When you mentioned St. Nicholls it was supposed to be St. Nicholas."Ta' Vestru" means of Vestru ,,short of Sylvester's.He was a Maltese folk singer.Frans Baldacchino ,whose statue stands in that park, was also a loved folk singer with a unique voice who passed away only a few years back .You were only five minutes away from Roger's where you could have got some nice pastizzi. Thanks for your good work.
