Wow, he simply added his suite in old style in this piece.
He does that a lot. It's practically in all his movie works, which seems a little cheap :/

Why does Schnittke's website list this piece as having been composed in 1971 if the film was actually released in 1970?

Фильм редко показывали по ТВ. Но музыка осталась в памяти. Как и подвиги Алексея Десятчикова, Хуберта Пярнокиви, Валерия Брумеля...
Единственно, что уже тогда портило восприятие - жирный, сласщавый кирибеевич ...

Why is it an arrangement by Frank Strobel? Did he changed the orchestration?
He put together the concert suite heard here.
Er war ein sehr enger Freund von Schnittke und hat nach Schnittkes Erkrankung und Tod seine Werke in seinem Versprechen weitergeführt, aufgeführt und Suiten zusammen gefasst. Da gibt's eine Dokumentation von Strobel
darüber 😊
