For Today's project, I'm working on this 1991 Polaris Indy 500 with 4900 miles. This sled has 4900 miles and after 32 years it needs some attention.
The FUJI 500 has experienced a complete failure on the PTO bearing. Follow along as we tear the engine down it discover everything else it's hiding.
Check me out on Instagram as well

I'm in awe you found a broken 500 Fuji.

I didn’t even try to start it. I’m sure it still ran reasonably well. 😀

Great video Tom! That's the same engine on my 96 Classic, so I'll be saving this in case I need to do a tear down. Looking forward to the reassembly.

I figured since there’s about a billion of these that were made. Someone may find it useful. 😀

My only concern is that the outer race is going to separate from the inner when I try to remove it.

I used to have one of these, Upgraded to a 2011 Switchback Assault, ended up giving my son the 500, it was fan cooled. Although the fans we're a bit more unreliable, they we're great engines. I wish they would've kept the liquids instead of the fan 550.

The 550 went to market before it was ready. It suffered from poor ventilation in the Edge chassis and unfortunately it can’t away from the poor reputation.
My daughters EVO has the 550 and it’s been rock solid for the past 3 years.

Hah too funny. Everyone hated the Ski-Doos. Very low feedback / interest on them. I’ve learned my lesson. 🤣🤣🤣

Funny tidbit.. We have a 98 one of these in the family..We dropped the needles down one notch. Lady driven it has consistently got 18mpg for the last 3 years.. Huge improvement.. But am sure in midrange it might be leaner than it should be...

I have to admit. It feels good getting back to a Wedge.

91 probably the best looking in my opinion, especially the 650.

absolutely. The early wedges had some of the best designs. 91 and 92 were great years for graphics and color combo's

How do you get the crank shaft out once you split the case!? Is it just stuck in their from the oil seals? I can't figure it out.

    • @StreetersGarage
      @StreetersGarage  9 месяцев назад +1

It’ll come out. Take a dead blow hammer and tap the end of the crankshaft to break the seal from the case.

If only Polaris would have kept this engine instead of the 550 fan.. They would have dominated the economy sled market.
