i'm sorry
it's so agonizingly short Видеоклипы
Third album I listen from Dorothy Ashby, third time I`m blown away by how good this woman is. We need more harp jazz in this world.
She is truly wonderful.
Ricardo Morales
Alice Coltrane.
what a beautifull
I agree.
Ms. Ashby just swings with such graceful force. Frank Weiss puts the crowning touch just floating on flute, and that rhythm section is anchored by the underated bassist Wendell Marshall. The just cook!
Thanks for posting.
Angel on earth... 🤗🥰
I found out about her listening to college radio in the 80's late night. Still amazes me.
I have an old vinyl I bought back in the day of Ms Ashbys that I love.
Keep it as a jewel.
Dorothy Ashby played harp on Stevie Wonder's "Songs in the key of life",trivia fans.
"If it's magic"

IF ITS MAGIC, yes indeed she played!
Says Zappa, who was also mentioned in the huge thank you list on this Stevie's album ;)
Lost & Found...I bought this CD at Tower Records years ago but left it on the plane from Singapore to Hong Kong 15 years ago...it is such a beautiful album...thanks for posting it ...from the bottom of my heart...
+S.T. Zhang... It's (probably) now covered in dust on a shelve in HONG KONG's Airport "LOST LUGGAGE"!!!!!!!!!
They probably got the Hong Kong SWAT team to check it out and safely examine whether it was safe to approach. Because this album is the bomb!
Ahhhhh TOWER records.... Good ol days.
Tower records!!! =) Im from detroit, but i got my favorite records from tower records in shibuya, japan
I wasn't expecting ed thigpen to be the drummer. Incredible player.
Yeah, I adore his tastefull and precise playing.
Love her!!💕🌷💕
Love hearing her sing during the aeolian groove song :)
not only is it beautiful guys, but more so .....I'll. so ill that I run a high fever as I'm listening to this thru my mpc waiting to find the perfect lil pieces that I long for
Brilliant & awesome to hear an earlier & another jazz harpist besides the wonderful Alice Coltrane ;-)
What a joyful sound!
No need to apologize man. This is a great album you posted!
I wish I would've grown up listening to this.
Aisha Ellis you would have probably grown some wings :)
If an angel were a jazz musician, she would sound like this.
this is truly heavenly music!
Ijust happened to hear DA on local UK radio station and found it so so relaxing to listen to. I had been looking into the Jazz scene for a while and couldnt find anything to suit my ear, I have now
You can imagine the solace some soulful souls feel when they arrive in Heaven and find out that not all the harp music there is square.
I too was a big Alice Coltrane fan....actually had some correspondence with her. She turned me into a giant harp enthusiast.....so much so that I came to realize She was really not an accomplished/ deft harpist --------as Dorothy is . Alice was incredibly creative in other ways , like introducing Asian instruments into the jazz world , and she pretty much coined the term "spiritual jazz". May they both rest in heavenly peace. Om Cassotta
Asians are northerneast africans , we are one back than and now ! Chinense founded harps in a cave , that present day people didnt know how to play their old instruments , be4 they lefted asian minor .
Om 🙏
Yesssssssss this is a beautiful alum indeed!!!😊
I'm in love from this album. Thanks 🌷
Master Piece! It's so good!

Maravilhoso! ❤☻🌹
La mejor arpista de jazz del mundo☝️
All praises due!
Ethereally recorded in 1956 by the master himself Rudy van Gelder for Prestige. Fantastic album of this amazing lady’s subtle swinging “American-songbook” tunes. Frank Wess’s flute floating, like pearl-droplets, above it all. Great nostalgic Jazz music of the highest swingingest calibre. Enjoy this gem & Cheers!
Great album thanks for posting. An earlier time in Dorothy Ashby's music when it was not seemingly swamped by an arranger (though the Rubaiyat is a wonderful exception) Recommend the Fantastic Jazz Harp of Dorothy Ashby LP to anyone
this is what i wanted to hear! thanks a lot!
de nada hermano
Thanks for this marvel. I didn't knew before.. I knew of Adele Girard who played harp with Joe Marsala groups... and Harpo, but I don't know if he played jazz

Music for the free spirited
Many thxs ! could one upload "Afro Harping " album of Goddess Dorothy Ashby , these utubaera can hear how she can really play ?
I'm interested to know how many chords are in these songs. Like is it mostly modal with the occasional shift, or is she really changing the keys very frequently. If anyone knows I'm trying to learn to play the harp this way
Good luck, you will need it.
No, luck is never necessary, only passion and the dedication of time.
Neverward - she's following the changes to the song, just look up the charts online and figure out how to voice the chords then learn the scales/modes that are associated with each chord and play through them while going through the changes. then try improvising using those scales and chords you just learned
also of course learn the melody to the heads of whichever tunes you want to play, and if they have lyrics like Stella by starlight for example learn the lyrics as well. helps you keep you place in the changes if you can hum sing or think about the melody and lyrics while you play. nice little way to not loose your place
Thanks for the thoughtful reply those are excellent practice habits :) my jazz professor says a lot of the same stuff. It also really helps to listen to the song a lot! I will do as you say ^^
Anybody else hear 8:36 ??? Trippy...
