Fantastic, i can listen to recent sparks records as well as all the 70,s tracks. I cant believe the musics getting better. please dont stop making records sparks.
The lyrics to this song are brilliant, the whole concept is that the protagonist can't make it with the girl he's after because she's a Morrissey fan and he just can't compete with Morrissey for her affections. Culminating in one of the best Sparks lines ever - "if only Morrissey wasn't so Morrissey-esque".
SPARKS remain awesome and original and creative. No one like them. True legends of Synth Pop, and anyone who doesn't know what these guys have achieved over the last four decades is simply clueless.
Sparks one of my all time favourite bands singing about one of my favourite singers. Wow! A truly original band. Always look forward to a new Sparks release.
lyrical excellence , musicality and stage performance, their longevity speaks for itself . part of life’s rich tapestry is sparks. The world needs artists such and Ron and Russell for the rest of usto remain sane in these these testing times .
Has anyone noticed that Ron Mael's Keyboard says "Ronald" instead of "Roland" but since the typeface is the same it's overlooked. I'm probably the only person stupid enough to comment on this, since it's obvious to everyone but me.
I got a tiny Bryan Ferry vibe from this performance. Thanks Russell & Ron. Only you could effectively pull off this song. Falsetto is still there after 4 decades - props.
I just want to know one thing why isn't this song played more on American radio I don't understand it not that I've ever heard it on American radio what's great songs like this I still can't believe they're not playing gigantic stadiums all over the world
Not really... Morrissey nearly worshiped Sparks, which amused them. Ron is outstanding in finding the peculiar behaviors of the human race, and I agree with his unspoken question here. What is it he has (had?) that attracts women? I'm a woman, and I don't get it🤔? But he used to have some female fans. Many of them. So Ron actually recycled the theme from 'Sherlock Holmes', Here Ron let the guy in the song plead to Morrissey not to be so sad looking, because that attracts his girlfriend, and he can't measure up with Morrissey's sadness. In Sherlock Holmes the guy in the song begs his girlfriend to forgive him for not being as perfect as she wishes him to be (at least he believes she does) and asks her to pretend he's perfect, though he's sorry that he can't be that super intelligent super human, "Sherlock Holmes". (About men who feel they can't live up to the image of the ideal man.)
The Guitars sound awesome in this recording.......... the Ricky bass tight and loud, The Gibson punchy and sweet, The Stratocaster bright and meaty. Wow who was the guitar tech?
Earle Mankey used to play the guitar guitar, soon followed by his brother JIM MANKEY (bass) was in the band from the Halfnelson era (19(68?) 70-71) and Sparks after they changed their name, until the Mael brothers moved to England -73. (Harley Feinstein on drums in that setting)
Sorry but.. whom knew 'Hilter would eventually go on to join Clif Richards' formed a Karaoke Pub Band, toured the back streets of East Berlin, Soho London then end up in lost in Canal Street, Manchester doing Odes for Loose Change and personal Favours. Lighten up. But obviously Moz gave the permission as he often does to have the right to berate it later on if it wasn't all a fabulous success. To which this blatantly wasn't. TWU
Ron's Eno impersonation not that good, nor is the Guitarist Manzanera impersonation. :-) He does really look like Ferry in that suit and haircut though.
The Greatest Band of all time
One of the most underrated to be sure.

It seems like a follow up of 'Sherlock Holmes' (1982, 'Angst In My Pants') to me.
A damn good one 😁💖💖💖💖💖
Sparks has always been great since This Town Aint Big Enough, but now Sparks is a masterpiece machine the last 5 albums. This song is one of them!
they were great even before, as Half Nelson
@@Muddyrich, and after FFS, Hippopotamus, A Steady Drip Drip.

Before their time and always ahead of their time. Thanks for continuing to inspire me with your ever evolving sound.

Pure genious.... Long Live Sparks! Been a fan for over 30 years.
back to the original roots of sounds, musically divine, the most underated band ever here in the States
Russell still has a fantastic vocal range and has got more handsome with age.
Ron, with the glasses, kind of looks like the cartoonist Robert Crumb.
I'm sure when this was recorded, I believe in 2008. That would make him 60 here.
(He was born in 1948, October 5. Ron in 1945, August 12.)
Has anyone noticed that Ron Mael's Keyboard says "Ronald" instead of "Roland" but since the typeface is the same it's overlooked. I'm probably the only person stupid enough to comment on this, since it's obvious to everyone but me.
Elegant, intelligent, still glam...
Ah the great Sparks gets the last laugh in a subject near and dear to me😂! Honestly lighten up Steve!
I got a tiny Bryan Ferry vibe from this performance. Thanks Russell & Ron. Only you could effectively pull off this song. Falsetto is still there after 4 decades - props.
And the main riff as even the intro refferanced a possible sped up version of 'Girlfriend in a Coma' Live~Vide. I couldn't quite pinpoint it.
Morrissey is apparently a big Sparks fan. I think it's funny.
I just want to know one thing why isn't this song played more on American radio I don't understand it not that I've ever heard it on American radio what's great songs like this I still can't believe they're not playing gigantic stadiums all over the world
Brilliant & funny, as usual! Awesome.
.On Morrissey's top ten songs to listen to, he put This Town Aint Big Enough. Mutual admiration society.
Not really... Morrissey nearly worshiped Sparks, which amused them.

@@annabackman3028Kind if feels you're responding to a different comment. Probably the one from the guy comparing this song with Sherlock Holmes.
Love Sparks, love this song... Ron's expression at 0:50 is PRICELESS :)
❤️ Sparks
Hell yes, Sparks are better than ever
From their 2008 album - Exotic Creatures of the Deep.

🎶Brian Ferry born 1945 September 26
🎶Russell Mael born 1948 October 5
Daddy-o... Oops.
@kalisteboat I can kick myself for NOT noticing that. Hilarious!
Is that Jim Mankey from Concrete Blonde on bass?
I think so, I know he was in Sparks for a while
Along with brother Earle
Earle Mankey used to play the guitar guitar, soon followed by his brother JIM MANKEY (bass) was in the band from the Halfnelson era (19(68?) 70-71) and Sparks after they changed their name, until the Mael brothers moved to England -73.
(Harley Feinstein on drums in that setting)
Hope there's am official video for either track.

(No, they don't)

Is that Mark Kermode next to the presenter?
ахуительная группа, в живую поют не хуже чем на записи
Sparks is God
No one could ever compete with Morrissey, they realize this :-P

Hey I'm the 42,000th viewer! Do I win a prize?
Lighten up , morrisey. ^😁
