Your journey into bikes is exactly the same as mine. 100kg ultra runner that had no interest in bikes. Bought 3 bikes last year having not owned one since I was 14
Well done Mark. I have a different opinion of the mtb and think.you should keep it, the reason is that it translated to improved road bike handling. That from someone who quit mtb to focus on triathlon to then buy and mtb to improve 🙄 Storming end of year though chap!
Yep, have always been a mountain biker but got my first road bike this year to do triathlons. Amazes me how a lot of the road/triathletes really lack in bike skills. Scared of bumps, not taking advantage of down hills etc... I do get to get creamed by them on the flat smooth sections. Also hardly ever get to do any mountain biking here in the US. They treat mountain bike trails like cricket pitches. The slightest rain or hint of moisture they close the trails. A lot of US mountain bikers have never ridden in mud and rain. Unlike what we do in NZ/Australia/UK.
SPD vs flat pedals. Did you swap your pedals to flats or did you just run the SPDs with running shoes? Real flats can be fine but you need to learn how to use them. Sounds silly but there is a technique involved. But maybe that's all moot. But any race is good practice...
As a mtn biker, I disagree that your size and weight is a disadvantage to turning and there is definitely a hugely different skill set for riding on road with a road bike and off road with a mtn bike - mud and soft ground adds another level to it all.
Well Done Mark Looking Forward To What's Coming Next? Especially Swift Races.
Definitely made for the smaller, more agile frame that race but great experience either way! 👍🏻💪🏻

Maybe that course wasn't for you matey! the idea of a off road duathlon seems a fun event I'd love to try one 👍😁

Damn you, Covid!

@@MarkLewisfitness Yea...Racing XC on flats sucks.
@@MarkLewisfitness and the sole on the 5.10 are stiffer
No licking? Why bother?

@@MarkLewisfitness no need ...... I’m way heavier than you
Doesn't matter for downhill but weight does definitely matter for cross country.
About as aero as a bus 😂
Blasted Mark, you lost me after 1:10. Couldn't keep up - daft American and all.....😁
Keep the bike.
