I was looking forward to seeing what your contribution to the Semistrunka-or-Russian 7string classical folk guitar conversation would be but as soon as you suggested a tuning based off the 'Standatd(ahem-Should be called "Usurped" or "Catholic")A440 Tuning instead of DGBDgbd @A432 the tuning most widely associated with this particular instrument. My personal choice though is dropCm11^6-CGD#Fa#dg~it has a hauntingly beautiful yet sombre & reserved timbre at the same time resulting in something I find truly unique & powerful for composing or just noodling around. But you'll be hearing more & more Ppl tuning to 432hz instead of 440hz for the simple fact until the late 1800's 432 was symphonic standard & is far softer on our hearing on the whole
Don't forget you could transpose duelling banjo's or fiddles into a custom Djent/Waltz hybrid for those odd moments at modern weddings when ppl wanna get down but not offend the elder new Inlaw's from the Old Country (just make sure you bring a tambourine for the tipsy great Aunt to jam along-your cheeks will be numb for weeks after but oh well) L8RSK8RS 🛹
Nice video Doug! For those who want to understand better the history of counterpoints ( 5:35 - Improvised Bass Lines) I suggest Dino's 7 strings 1992 interview at ruclips.net/video/cmwtxht885g/видео.html ; Dino is recognized as one of the creators of brazilian 7 string samba language and certainly one of the best brazilian guitar players!
I've always thought that once you go to more strings you should have less distance so the strings act more like a drone, Standard : E1 B2 G3 D4 A5 E6 then D7 C8 B9 G10 and then a requinto like a0 treble string on top for string 11. I would love to try this guitar though, it has a punchy sound for rhythm.
I finally reached the point in which I was in a position to buy one of these, but when I went to the website to make the purchase I found that Altamira raised the price rather dramatically overnight. Uuurrrggg, oh, well... I guess I have to settle for a different 7 string.
Hi Doug. Great video and demo. Have you tried tuning the 7th string to D? If I ever get one of these, that’s what I would do ( I think), I’ve always wanted to play in drop D without having to constantly re-tune. I’ve never seen one in any guitar shop.
@@RoadToFuture007 You'd need special strings designed for that tuning made by Aquila. Russain Guys tune their 7 String Guitar to Open G (DGBDGBD) and yes you can play everything from Rolling stones to Black Crowes, you name it in this tuning.

Gospel players certainly love the Low B tuning cause they can easily transpose on the fly to fit the ranges of certain singers & instruments.
Always good to hear Doug play Brazilian music.
This has inspired me so much.. I'm waiting for my seven string to arrive and the low C and B tunings have me so very excited! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Beautiful, excellent ‘lesson’
Bravo Doug, I so enjoy your playing!
That music has similar chords to the music in super Mario when he eats a star and is in an invincible mode
Haha great catch

Nice...
This is the only classical guitar I can use to properly play a Slipknot cover with.

1:30 Jazz Chords sound great on this thing
Just got a kremona 7 string classical and having a lot of luck drop tuning to a low A. Its really useful
Bucky Pizarelli used that tuning & may he RIP

Wonderful! I think I will tune mine in B, more easy to remember the positions then :)
Yes because the additional String is another B String really easy way to get into the 7 String
I've always thought that once you go to more strings you should have less distance so the strings act more like a drone,
Standard : E1 B2 G3 D4 A5 E6 then D7 C8 B9 G10

That High A is the same as a Tenor Guitar
Very versatile you can now play it on a Church Gig
I know 7 String Guitars alot, the 7th String is another B String so it's a good extended range Guitar to learn on
You both look and sound like Ben Mendelsohn.
Love the video btw.

I would add Strap Buttons & a Guitar Strap so that it's easier to hold.

Magma Strings now has a set of Strings designed for the 7 String
Beautiful. Do you make them left-handed?
Hi Josh. Yes, all our models can be made left handed. You can contact us at info@altamiraguitars.com for more information
Who learn Brazilian music never more wants plays other style ♥️♥️♥️♥️
That really is very true, agreed

I’ve never seen one in any guitar shop.
With all due respect professor but..that is Bossa Nova...and sounds beautiful
finally the low c major
What strings are you using... particularly the 7th... How low/high is it tuned?
Typically the 7th String is another B String
I just recently bought a 7-string classical guitar, but where do you order strings for it?? I can't find them anywhere!
We recommend the D'Addario 0.58 for the 7th string
@@AltamiraGuitars Magma GCT-7 Strings might work too
Wonderful sound. Don't see the 7-string offered on your USA website. Special order only?
Dear Paul. It is on our US website and we have stock in our LA workshop. You can find it here: www.altamiraguitars.com/shop/p/sete-cordas
is this guitar still in production? How can I get one?
Yes they are in production now and will be ready in November
@@AltamiraGuitars what would be the price?
Got fan fret?
That's coming soon but it would balance out the String tension.
The Low B tuning is something that Djent Guys use
Rock and Metal Peeps prefer a Low B Too
Djent Guys uses low F on 8 string
