Another method is to use a gradient map. Left side is the shadows, right side is highlights. Use more saturated colors in the shadows and less saturated in the highlights. U can then get slightly different hues of color which makes skin etc look far more realistic. invert mask and paint white where u want to apply the gradient.

I was colorizing my black and white pic, trying to figure how to use the methods only to find I was reinventing the wheel.. Glad to have stumbled on this video, out of nowhere it just popped into my recommendations! Thanks, this is great, and exactly just when I needed it. More power!

Never knew converting a black and white image would be this easy.Tried watching multiple RUclips videos on how to convert b/w image to colour, even applied few but each of those process seemed very lengthy nd tiresome nd did not work that well for me but then I found this tutorial..Must say this is the easiest way to convert and the work is done within a very short time and great results 👍.very impressive 😁.. looking forward to more such tutorials.

Your approach is the most straightforward of any of the videos I've seen on RUclips. I have only one criticism: you move far too quickly. People like me who are just learning Photoshop would benefit from a slower approach. At least you provide the image to follow along with.

I find myself slowing down some tutorials to 85 or 90%. Or backing up and rewatching several times. Or even looking at other tutorials to find clarification of a point I couldn't catch. And of course, doing the actual actions on my project.
I remember when I first started using PS I couldn't even ask questions because I didn't know the terms/tools/actions.. it was like a foreign language! Either do some PS Tutorials, or let your cursor hover over the different tools/symbols to see what they are (like "adjustment layer"). Then, if he goes too fast to see where he is pointing, you'll hear him say "a new adjustment layer" and you'll know what he means, and where it is.

Throw the video in .75 video playback. I've found that it works so well with tutorials that are too fast. Yeah, the talking is annoying when slowed but it helps a lot when trying to follow along
