Nice configs, my NixOS configs seem pretty similar setup wise so I might copy some things. Mine are at nonetrix/nixdots but I have yet to push a lot of major changes because they aren't really stable :3 I really need to work on my bar and neovim configs lol
Thank you! Just did a livestream updating the configs / flake to have a username and hostname variable so people only need to edit the flake. Now to get it to automatically generate the hardware-configuration file for the user. 😅 Share what you come up with on the Discord 😎
There are some very cool features in NixOS. I will have to try this in a VM. I experiment with a lot of different ARCH and Debian versions and have some simple scripts to set them up once installed. Obvi NixOS takes this to the next level and them some but it also seems like a lot of work. :) Thanks for this and keep them coming. Ill check your other videos for some more setup and configuration videos You have a nice manner and way of presenting information. Thank you

I and a handful of others that use NixOS are normally around or I can schedule a time to get with you. What makes NixOS is it's community, you definitely don't have to fend for yourself 😁
@@ZaneyOG Your instructions say to copy your HARDWARE config file to my local /etc/nixos. That doesn't seem correct. I would think I need the stuff in your nix config file? Since that has all the hyprland etc Clone this repo, replace your hardware-configuration.nix with the one inside the workstation folder, enable flakes in your default configuration.nix, then go into repo folder and run this command:
The flake and repo will be updated here in the next 10-15 minutes. It will have some great improvements. If you want set a timer for 20 to be safe then go here: gitlab.com/Zaney/zaneyos
To keep it as easy as possible for people, you should set a username and hostname variable in the flake, ander the homemanager and configuration modules inherent that and you can them set to just be ${username} or ${hostname} when needed in the other files. It mKes it much easier to let others try out
I recently tried out nixos too on my laptop, since all arch distros including vanilla just had some issue with my monitor and crashed every single wayland instance although the laptop used an amd apu which is weird. I installed nixos and so far enjoying it. Still having some issues with hyprland on that install but I think its becuase I dont have the nixos mindset of things. nix is actually really cool and I might even replace my desktop arch install with it at some point once learning more about it on my laptop. do you know if there is any major difference in gaming performance arch vs nixos?
Speaking theoretically, I don't think there would be much of a difference. For the most part, most NixOS setups could be made in arch, just with manual configuration instead of config files. The real thing which dictates performance is the kernel version and package versions, and with NixOS unstable being very up to date, I imagine it'd trade blows with arch.

you should have a hardware configuration file on a nixos install at that location.
Just a warning if you want to replicate the Hyprland setup, it's not supported for VMs and can be really annoying to get working
