Immensely helpful, to where I am at any rate, thanks as usual. Btw, I used to have a Baldwin piano that I loved, partly because the muddiness limit was lower than usual, lower than the octave below middle C. So I think there's a bit of variation between pianos and also electric keyboards. Now my first test of a new keyboard is to see where that muddy limit is.
Love the snarky humour 😄! Your lessons are frankly life changing. Thank you so much color changing Chameleon... I mean life changing Jeremy! Oh, and there's something I've been itching to ask you. I'd love to hear your thoughts and approach to doing ear training as a jazz musician - maybe you could make a video about it? Again thanks a lot for making these videos!
So good, so useful! I am going through the Jazz Piano Fundamentals books as well, very systematically, and really enjoying the whole process. I also write my own exercises. Can you please recommend an app to write these on the music staff on an ipad?
Jeremey any tips for getting better in the more difficult keys? I'm getting pretty decent going through easier keys (Ab, Eb, Bb), but I could never glide through those Bmin7 - E7 as cleanly as you man 😂 should i just be transposing a few licks and practing them in uncomfortable keys?
I suggest that if you understand a certain key, your voicings for that key are gonna be similar to the voicings in a key one step below or above that key. You can play a 2 5 in Ab pretty much the same as in G or A, so I suggest to transpose chromatically in that case. Id say do the same with lines, this helped me a lot :)
That key area is A major, easier than the Ab you've already accomplished! Perhaps just play for a while with guitarists rather than saxophonists/trumpeters, then you'll get more used to the sharp keys! :)
Sorry for the delay. These comments are pretty good! I'd make sure to know your triad and seventh chords within the diatonic scale and then I'd practice ways to highlight the chord tones using enclosures and non-chord tones. Remember - it's not hard, it's just unfamiliar!
You might be the greatest jazz piano teacher alive. Might be.
Wow! That’s so nice! I don’t think there’s any chance that’s true, but I’m honored to be a contender!!!
"Do you even really like poorly produced RUclips videos, at all?"
*Proceeds to teach more per minute than any other jazz RUclips channel*
Chameleon!
Haha, thanks, Chris! I'm glad I'm providing some value...or maybe the other channels just suck? 😂
