So glad to see the Banyan Tree has so many green leaves!! And, Glad to see the cleaned up areas, but still so sad. Thanks for continuing to film Lahaina so that we can see the progress.
Mahalo for this video! I used to live in Lahaina across from baby beach and spent a lot of time at the Banyan tree. SO glad to see how green it is. I worked on Front St and cannot believe it's all gone. Prayers to all the people of Maui! ❤
Bittersweet I’m still in disbelief. Lahaina town is where we would go when we didn’t go back to my island of Okinawa, about every other year or more, for many years. So many memories of surfing, eating, shopping and just walking around town. Luckily, we had the chance to take our three kids and their significant others the November before the fire and now, it’s gone. I hope it gets rebuilt with the same charm that it had, but that will be tough. My wife and I watched it burn while we were on our trip in Okinawa. Thank you for the updates.
I love seeing the progress that is happening in Lahaina. Thank god the banyan tree is recovering and so green. I still can't believe the tragedy of the fire and to think that areas was so full of life and excitement for everyone who visited. I will continue to keep the people in my prayers.
Thanks Jesse for keeping us updated on the progress of Lahaina. We appreciate it alot. Spent 6 of the last 7 yrs visiting Maui and miss it dearly. Maybe will still make it this year. Keep them coming please
Jesse, thank you so much for the drone tour! It's nice to see the Banyan Tree doing so well. Thank you for telling us about the group that is planting many trees in Lahaina. It will add so much life back to the area. I can't thank you enough for all you do to keep us informed. It's always exciting to see a new post from you. 🙂
Thank you so so much for doing this. I live in lake Havasu, Arizona but I've been going to Maui since I was 18. I am now 63😢 still very sad about my beautiful little town that was burnt down tried to go over to Kauai. I've been to four Islands and Maui is mine. I just love it. I have a timeshare n kahanapal at the Marriott Ocean club nothing compares to my beautiful Marriott I have used my timeshare and have gone to key West. That was beautiful so wasn't my Maui again, thank you for all what you're doing to show everybody. What's going on with Maui
It’s amazing how clear the ocean water is. I guess that’s a testament to the care that has been given on the cleanup efforts? Thanks for continuing these drone flights.
Public Works and Army Corps of Engineers have been very concerned with runoff. BMPs (=best management practice) which are the long tube like objects surrounding clean ups have been instrumental in these efforts and the National Weather Service attends all of the debris removal meetings to alert the teams if any weather systems are approaching which could dump rain.
Your videos are always uplifting despite what has taken place. Slowly but surely the Banyan Tree is coming back to life. Just like Lahaina will. They both are going to be different and I have a good feeling about what changes are coming. I'm curious about the sail boat that is sitting at a tilt. I'm surprised it hasn't been removed. Thank you as always for your inspired gift. 😎🦀🌺🙏🌴
Thank you for sharing ❤. We were there the week before the fires happed - July 17th - 22nd 2023 & I am ever grateful to have experienced Lahaina & Maui for the very first time before those horrific fires. May there be peace among us & those living there 🙏🏻 🤍
I still keep thinking that i can just fly back and partake in the greatness of Lahaina. I have to continually watch this to get it to sink into the subconscious.
I have been coming to Maui for the last 16 years being a proud owner at Westin Kaanapauli North. Have spent numerous days floating out of Lahaina, eating great meals, attending the Catholic Church, and so many whale watches. have met numerous people that we have become friends with who live on the island. Thank you so much for your drone presentation and keeping us updated on what is happening. Will be back next February.
@@JanG-g4h we will also be back at the end of Feb in Westin north, for our 24h year. So appreciate the drone monthly updates about one of our favorite communities.
Mahalo for the great video! So glad to see the Banyan tree but so sad to see everything else the way it is. Hopefully construction can start soon to get those shops back in Lahaina town!
I was there shortly before the fire. We walked down those streets, went to the shopping area, ate at Captain Jack's and it was so fun, the people were kind, and the culture... it kills me to see it like this. It's the first time I've seen an area where I've been so devastated like this. Edit: *some months, before the fire.
Thank you so much for posting your videos. I would live to see Kahoma Village included. We heard our son and family's unit has started to be rebuilt. Mahalo.
I was wondering if the non-profit groups who are replanting are going to try to use as many native plants as possible. The cleanup has made good progress. What were the names of those two non-profit groups if you are able to share? Also Mahalo for taking the time to create the drone video.
This month, I visited Maui. I met with my good friends, Rev. John Crewe and his lovely wife Hyalene. He is the minister of Lahaina United Methodist Church. I heard firsthand about that devastating day 13 months ago. They are both very positive about rebuilding. Bless everyone that was and still are affected by this terrible tragedy. Aloha😢
So sad to see. We ate dinner there on the rooftop at Fleetwood in April of 2023 and shopped at all the shops along Front street. To see it all cleared away and vacant land now is hard to comprehend as it seems like we were just there.
My husband and I visited Lahaina a few years before the fire. Can you tell me where was the location of the Asian Museum, which we recall being on Front Street. We so much enjoyed going through the two-story building with the attached outside cooking area. The Asian lady, who was so kind to give us a tour, allowed us to go upstairs to see the beautiful offering table and artifacts. So sad to hear everything is gone...so thankful we took so many pictures and videos to be able to reflect on.
Do you know if there are any updates on if the county plans to restructure the layout of Lahaina or are the former businesses planning to rebuild in their same plots?
Thanks for the update. Is there an ongoing drought in this area of Maui? The hillside in the distance is so brown and dry. Years ago, when I was living off the land all over the island, I remember such lush green up country.
Great video. Curious as to why that boat is still sitting there in front of the outlet part of Front Street. Its a pretty expensive boat to just have been abandoned.
You beat it to it! I was trying to imagine what circumstances would have to happen for that vessel to still be there. Perhaps salvage companies are not yet allowed close enough to retrieve it. When a vessel runs aground, the owner/s are (usually) given a specific amount of time to retrieve the vessel before salvage companies are allowed to retrieve it.
Would u have any idea when I may be able to go to the Harbor or Banyan tree? I grew up on a boat in the harbor and the tree was my only friend alot of the time. I haven't grieved yet, can't let myself cry and I need to go but don't know when it will be ok to do that...😢
Maui Mayor attends meetings with head of the planning department. They are requesting major shoreline management assessments and wanting buildings moved back from the ocean. This will now take 2 years if Lahaina Strong doesn’t try to delay further. Is the Mayor doing the bidding of Lahaina Strong so he doesn’t have to face resignation or getting voted out?The settlement deal could fail over this man’s actions. That puts Maui County at risk of bankruptcy. The above is why there isn’t a lot of new construction. Should the Mayor be charged with negligent manslaughter?
Consider how long the initial survey, demolishing a building or home, plus clearing and leveling ground can take on a single large residence or commercial structure (if you've never been in the industries, just consider how long you drove past some construction sites). Then consider this required clearing out nearly 1,400 structures including larger commercial ones, environmental remediation etc. and all of it using public dollars, which tends to take longer than private, and on an island with minimal infrastructure. Given all those facts I would say the army corps and everyone else did a pretty good job. Thinking it could all be rebuilt in a year is frankly not realistic. To be clear: I know people from Lahaina and consider this a tragedy. But we need to stay grounded in reality. I hope it's rebuilt as soon as possible
COULD YOU DO A FLYOVER OF MY OLD BNB, PENNY'S PLACE INN PARADISE, AT 1440 FRONT ST NEXT TO WHAT WAS ONCE THE CHART HOUSE. I can hardly look at this, so sad. I have been going there for 30 years. We have a family condo in the Mahana, on the other side. Everything is good over there, no guests. The condo is worth nothing now. My in-laws are very old now. I think 50 years. I guess folk's that lost their houses and businesses, stayed in the condo, until they we're thrown out. I went down to front street, every night. Fished out of that harbor so many times. Did the boat's all get out? does anyone know if a boat called the Exact got out of the harbor. Where did the boats move too. These people have been screwed. People in Maui are not rich, at all. Most of the residences were handed down. Hawaiians are super family oriented. They have really great get-togethers. Dig a whole out back and burry a pig. Good eats. Paradice beach. Hanna! I won't go Back. Sorry, just thoughts.
The tree is only love and it wants to stay there. It doesn't matter which deceased person decades or a century ago planted it. The tree loves being around the people and the animals.
So happy everything is coming together, Was at Banyan tree many time so happy it survived. God bless Maui and all the people.

Thanks, Jesse. The greening of the banyan tree is indeed a sign of good things to come.
I agree!!!
Thanks for this update!

Absolutely love your updates.Your narration is tops. Mahalo

Mahalo for this. still ( always will be) so sad about the loss of life, livelihood and property. It does make me happy that the "tree" is recovering.
Seeing this makes me cry.i have such fond memories of living in Lahaina😢
Thanks again for all the updates! I really appreciate them.
You produce the best updates, Jesse. Amazing flying.
So glad to see the progress being made. Looks like Fleetwood's building is slowly being fixed up.
Thank you so much for your updates!

Whyyy it was so beautiful when I was there. I was there 5 months before the fire all the shops and trees. The tree was so big 😭

How are all the displaced people doing?
Greetings from Redondo Beach 🇺🇸🇺🇸Happy to see the banyan trees are coming back🌷🌷May I ask what kind of drone you are using?
I actually shared a link in the description to the exact same drone I use for these videos.
It has been a dry summer... but we did get some rain in the past week and tend to get more as we get closer to winter season.
The whole town should be rebuilt for the people who made the town prosper.
Great video. Curious as to why that boat is still sitting there in front of the outlet part of Front Street. Its a pretty expensive boat to just have been abandoned.
Great drone work. What is the range of that model?

Unfortunately I don't know for sure. I assume they will wait until cleanup of Front Street is complete before opening up the area.
What is the story with that beached boat that you showed at the start of the drone flyover?
No new construction happening... I'd think some temporary cabins would be allowed on some burnt lots.

Where else in the US would such amazing prime real estate be sitting vacant? It is disappointing that this has not been rebuilt yet.

This wasn't random. This was deliberately done. There is no way houses just burned like that.
