Vintage Style, not Vintage Values

- This panel, moderated by FIT Professor and Fashion Historian Raissa Bretaña, brings together social influencers who dress in vintage clothing and styles in everyday life to discuss the community and their engagement with the common hashtag #VintageStyleNotVintageValues. In a society where racism, sexism, sizeism, and ableism are widespread, can anything vintage really be embraced 100%?
This video is being held in connection with the upcoming FIT Graduate Studies exhibition The Roaring Twenties and The Swinging Sixties, created in collaboration with the Museum at FIT, which can be found here: exhibitions.fi...

I see these queens assembling, I click, I like.
So glad you enjoyed it! ✨✨
I just wanted to say hi to Bernadette and Kenna. :D
This was very insightful! I had never heard of Blackamoor Jewelry and had to look up what it was, appreciate that info being shared. The first few links were shops to buy it, but further down were some news articles on why it’s problematic - looks like it is because it depicts Moors in positions of servitude for decoration. I became interested in Moorish history after attending a hafla as a preteen and learning that black history exists outside of the colonial slave trade. I know this should be common sense, but at that age I had really only been exposed to Texas history, and some US history.
I am pretty green in the historical costuming community only having made a few pieces; I am grateful for folks like Fresh Frippery being so welcoming! Thanks Instagram algorithm for pointing me this way!
It's Moops.
I'm conservative, I'm welcoming.
I focus on what makes me happy and I prefer to mix my vintage with a modern touch -- often my shoes. I won't pass the "authenticity" test and that's ok by me.
I want vintage values (racism is not a vintage value because there is absolutely ZERO VALUE in racism)
This was fantastic. Thank you!
VSVV!
Yes!
I hope to encounter a woman with vintage style and Christian (some of which are considered vintage) values.
Loved this panel!

Great panel!
Such an excellent discussion. Thank you all for sharing your time and talents!
What a wonderful discussion! Thank you so much.
My faves! Thank you for such an important discussion.
Having your cake and eating it too, I see.
Stating your pronouns is not Vintage talk
I hate to ask for more emotional labor, but I promise I'm listening and I'm not going to argue, if you want to respond. What did the friend ignore about the forties, or what did he do, that he shouldn't have? I want to collect and decorate my room with 1940s things, but I don't want to hurt anyone (not that I have that many visitors right now). I know that the 40s were not good at civil rights--I'm queer, trust me, I know! But am I missing anything else?
Go ahead sweetie. Just do your research into the styles you want from that era. Thank you for being so sensitive and understanding.
What was the name of the application you mention where you can go find vintage clothes
Load of crap. I want Futuristic Fashion, Futuristic Values!
