I've used and loved Stellarium for years even before I got into telescopes and I had no idea about the measuring tool. A big Thanks from Denver USA!
That's a great tip Jason! I hadn't come across the measuring tool, but then again when I first started using Stellarium I didn't even know where the exit button was! Thanks for sharing : )
Hey Chris. Lol.. I know what you mean, when I first booted it up I'm like "Where's all the options menu" .. Then I realised it worked like the old charm bar on Windows 8.. Remember that? 😄
It works like the auto hide task bar, if you have it set.
This is a great channel for those, just like me, who are just starting out and don’t know squat. Very informative and down to earth. Thanx for doing such a good job👍
Another great video Jason I have learned more off Yoo than I could have with any books. Thanks
Jason, love you sharing your astronomical field experience. I just purchased a 6" Sky Watcher Dob and using your tips right out of the box. Didn't occur to me to check Stellarium, so nice idea. Cheers from across the pond. Lou V., Vermont USA. (Hope you come and attend our Stellafane event and here someday.)
That has been sitting right under my nose for years. Brilliant, thanks.
More than welcome my friend
This is actually a really useful tip! great video as always!
Your audio is perfect.
Sweet! Thanks Jason! Stellarium is amazing and has so many options....
And Stellarium comes with a very detailed manual!
Thank you, Jason!
Thanks for this video! Very useful information!
Thanks, Jason!
A good thanks. From Brazil. ❤🇧🇷
Great video as always, thanks Jason!!!
Thanks Jay, your more than welcome pal ☺️
Hey Jason loved this little tip in video and I'm going to try it out and get into habit doing this. I have stellarium on my phone plus laptop. I really like stellarium mobile.
Stay safe friend and clear skies too!
Hey Bushcraft. Yeah I use it all the time best plug in on there.. Unfortunately it's not on the app version even the pro version you can only get it on the actual download version.. But at least it's free😀 Take care pal, clear skies..
Great tips there Jason. I tend to use the app on the phone, but it looks like the full program has loads of useful features. I'll have to download it I think 😊
Hello John. Thanks pal. Yes I would highly recommend downloading the full version there are enough features in there to keep you busy for a life time and all completely free which is always a bonus :)
I had some great starchart books, one I remember is the stars by clock and fist.
Very Good Video Jason. I have come Across measuring tool but I couldn't find how to Use it. Its Very Useful to find how Far Away exactly objects are!
Hello. How are you my friend. Yes it really is useful, my favourite plug in on there.. Take care buddy, clear skies 😃
Thanks , great info, but how i use this a bit more exactly then using my big fingers who are useally stuck in my nose?
there are alot of features in Stellarium, this one i did not know about cheers for sharing this 👊👍
Hey Frack. Your welcome buddy.
Thanks!
Thank you my friend, very much appreciate.
What about the free iOS version can you use that with a dob to help find objects like attach it to scope
Unfortunately it’s not free on my iPhone and I’m actually considering buying the plus version to control my telescope and all the other extras that this opens up for £11.99. Great tips Jason 👍
Hey WeelieBin Thanks pal (love that name 😂) I'm not 100% certain that the measuring tool is available on the app version I've got the paid version and never seen it, unless it's hidden somewhere like the download version. Something for you to be aware of before forking out the cash..
@@smalloptics753 Thanks for the heads up Jason. Looks like I’ll need to pick up a laptop for my astro work. I have a desktop in my house but I need something portable.
nerd out, nerds! clear skies!!!
Not where I live 😭
Don't forget you can use the Ctrl-a keyboard shortcut to toggle the Angle Measure feature on and off.
There seem to be stars moving as you were showing this. What are they?
Have a question about Star apps. Anyone??? Tried several and all have the same issue.
1. When I turn on the latitude and longitude lines, the longitude has no negative numbers but goes from 0-360. I'm in Florida USA and the longitude is -81w in the program setup. I know there is a E/W thing from the Merdian. So is -81w the same as 279 on the star chart?
2. I am at latitude 30 N degrees, should not this be the horizon on my chart? My "chart" by location seems to start at 20 degrees. The location shows 30 in the setup.
I have a tablet and one phone with no built-in compass hardware and was trying to manually line things up. Also just curious.
Would you say that this is easier than your drawing on paper trick or just another useful technique to know? I have decent setting circles on my C-8 but your paper trick seems the best yet. K
It's just another string to your bow my friend. Having a few tricks up your sleeve really does help at times. I wouldn't say one is better than the other but the two techniques do work well together.
Why Stellarium instead of SkySafari pro 7?
Are the moving objects satellites?
Satellites, comets, the iss, I even think Jwst is there too
Hello Sidney. Yes Stellarium is very detailed that way and they do move in real time as well.
Uhm
