"whatever your sad reason was in the 2000s" link forgetting one of the most defining moments of the 2000s lol
Yes! I was like Link, come on! Patriotic image over something nationally sad from the 2000s. Because of the attempted attacks on the Pentagon but it's still standing. It was a symbol of patriotic nostalgia to rally people at the time.
It was definitely an estate sale.
@@shannoncooley8763hilarious!
Idk why, but Link saying “see ya tomorrow “ just filled me with happiness and joy.
If I know a friend is into something, but I know nothing about that thing a themed mystery box seems like a good gift option.
I didn’t think about it like that. Makes sense
Thanks for saying this - I just finished my Christmas shopping because of it!! Yay!!
@@HotDog1337 good call on the sponge. That way when she throws it at you, it won't hurt. I still have the scar from last year's mistake when I bought my mom an iron.
Link: “Whatever your sad reason is.”
People watching: 😶
he just suspended his intelligence for a moment
@@emmig5806 well he was in the special classes in school lol
You almost have to deliberately try not get that.
Frustratingly yelling to myself that Coolidge and the prohibition were in the 20s for a few minutes during this episode
You have asbergers. Got it
Yup, when I saw the one sheet I was already thinking 20s, but Coolidge came up and was like oh this is really easy… and they got it wrong. I get that folks don’t know when many presidents were in office, but I was sure everyone knew when prohibition was. That’s a bit of US history I can’t believe people don’t know.
@@christophermcgrew9871 lmao
they weren’t wrong that smuggling from bahamas was also very common during the depression… just everything else 😂
After this, I really want an episode dedicated to Link and Rhett interpreting art.
Link, saddened by defeat, self comforting with a bad Nutty Professor impression 🖤
That impression didn’t make anyone moisssss 🤣
I thought it was rather good, but I haven't seen the movie in like two decades so I could be wrong! xD
And that, I think, is what The Nutty Professor is really for.
"Whatever the sad reason was", "from an estate sale or something" Lol It is funny that they totally forgot about 9 eleven! These guys are usually great at connecting things up that that actually surprised me! Nothing but love guys!
I was thinking the same thing! 09/11/01... DEFINITELY the 2000's! 😑
Maybe they were avoiding saying it on purpose
The way in which they both seriously discussed how many sides the Pentagon has, without even a hint of sarcasm in their voices... and Link didn't question it... just went right along with Rhett. Love these two. 😂🤣
Can we have a feed of Nicole's facial reactions while R&L are talking 😂
The context of that Pentagon image really flew over their heads.
can you explain?
@@Roy-G-Biv your joking right lol
@@jessicaengel3151 don't forget that some people weren't born yet, or were too young to remember that time
@@jessicaengel3151 *you’re
I didn’t get it until I got into the comments and I was in 8th grade when it happened.
For contemplating price vs sale, you gotta think these people are buying them whole sale/reseller, so they would typically get a price discount vs buying just one of everything for one box.
That’s exactly what I was assuming. Even if the box was more expensive then the individual parts like they were saying it wouldn’t be a very large mark up if the seller bought items in bulk and made multiple boxes.
Me shouting at them is unreal: PROHIBITION STARTED IN 1920!!!! Pentagon = sad = 9/11!!!! 🤣
How did they never put that together?!?
Thank you, I was actually frustrated that it was never addressed in the end lol
Same, this was a frustrating episode to watch.
i know!!! and link was like “whatever your sad reason is 🙄” LIKE 😭😭😭
A GMM mystery box would be awesome! Could have an exclusive mug design, GMM toiletry items, and the more hard to find taste test food items that have been tried on the show.
I remember those old "newspapers" from 30 years ago!! We would go to Union Station in downtown Indianapolis and you could get customized newsprints of the year you were born. I used to get SO excited to read those!! Wow. Unloclocking old memories today. Thanks, everybody!!
Get well soon.
Link probably won’t see this, but there is a modern classic board game called Modern Art that is an auction game. I bet he would enjoy that.
2:30
Not me sitting here looking at mystery boxes actually considering to purchase my first one.
I have done a few themed mystery boxes (Disney and Harry Potter) because I knew that I would like some of what was in it. I ultimately stopped buying them when I did the math and realized that I was paying $50 for a box of stuff that was worth about $20 that I could get from Walmart. This was specific to this box, and I have gotten boxes from manufacturers (like Funko) that had some collectibles in it that you couldn't get elsewhere, and that was worth it.
Also, did anyone explain to Link what the "sad reason" was? I clued in as soon as she said it...
I really enjoy the idea of mystery book boxes, which I know some people do just to recoup some of the loss of buying a book after they read as opposed to actually building a profitable business
I truly wonder what Lando’s opinion on Home Alone is…
This could be the dart map game on the original channel doesn't have to be food
I was actually expecting shuffle board
how to use the map for decades?
Yeah shuffle board would work too cause that's sorta what the game is for anyway but i thought it could be a cool mix of the games and make a non food dart game of decades
Let’s do a misery box. Where they auction for the misery they could ensure.
I don't buy mystery boxes online, but I do like going to thrift stores and buying those random $5 bags of stuff like craft items or housewares, just to see what's inside.
My college’s mascot was the Horned Frog, the animal from the Random Disturbing Fact! My diving coach tried to get us to say “spit blood” as we shook hands with our opponents at meets. Somehow it never caught on…
Go frogs
Coolidge was president before Hoover. Hoover was elected in '28 in time for the '29 crash.
Well rhett says coolidge is pre-great depression and then goes with the 30's :(
This could've been a GMM episode. great fun
damn...when link said "everything now down to me and nicole" it reminded me of jen and their frenemie-ness. :(
What happened to Jen?
@@mistymeadows8506 oh nothing happened, she just left mythical, sorry if my comment gave u the wrong impression 😅
Why is it sooo satisfying that when Links doll says dink it they wait till Rhetts doll says aaaand sink it?!
" ...and everyone brings a mystery box to secret Santa "
That's a brilliant idea
Wish this was a shuffle board game
Wow, I had no idea how many famous structures in America were torn down and rebuilt on a whim! Amazing!
Lol I’m not even American and that sounded super made up to me, in that special R&L way 😋
They may have gotten a few wrong, but I’m just impressed by some of the random historical facts that they knew about.
Or that they were making up on the fly. Either/or 😂
Sometimes I can’t detect when R&L are being sarcastic which leads me to reading an article about the history of the Washington monument cause I don’t remember them demolishing it in the 80’s. 😑
Oh, well, you won't find anything about it online because it's classified by the CIA.
I was about to Google this; thank you for the sanity check!
Can't get enough of your lion roars on your opener. Need it to be my notification ring tone
I love that they've kept it all these years
This was fun. These guys are a plethora of information.
I remember getting those in the middle of our newspapers when we were kids. Now I was born in 1960 and we get them every Christmas with all of the popular Christmas carols.
The secret Santa mystery box is an excellent idea honestly
It looks like the GMM mug is 2000s lol
The only mystery boxes I support have food. Otherwise its just junk you probably don't need. I'd rather buy something I know I want.
I love how hard they look at the back of the movie box,and the other stuff trying to find a date 😂 you can't fool us, we know y'all too well lol
I actively used floppy discs in elementary school in the 2000s
Well in you think about it an Advent calender is basically a mystery Box, they now come in a varity.
more than full mistery boxes i feel that the appeal is a themed mistery box... like you know food related MB or cinema related MB or toys related MB or super hero related MB... like you roughly know what you'll get but not entirely...
Mystery
Misteree
Mystery
Miss tree
Mailed gatcha boxes
Who else played Oregon Trail with a floppy disc? I’m 32 and played it in the early-mid 90’s.
Me too and I'm also 32!
We played it in elementary school and I’m 39.
I played it on an old Apple . Remember that the screen was all green. Lost so many wagons and darn kids were always dying of dysentery 🤣. Good comment, brings back good memories.
🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️
@@Prettykittychimi Same!
It hurts that someone on the crew had to take a marker to these
We’ve done several snack food mystery boxes and have enjoyed those. I’ve also done a couple disc golf mystery boxes and those have just been okay.
The best reason to buy a mystery box is because of the surprise factor, you pick a theme you or someone you care about will enjoy, and then you can get a box full of mostly pleasant surprises. It's great for people who are hard to shop for.
Hi Link Neal And Rhett McLaughlin! And I Know that this a little bit of an older video but I Just wanted to let you know that I Am Very Impressed How well you organized every single thing In Each decade Nice Work, And also I Totally agree that The Nutty Professor Film was released In The 90s and just If You two are curious when VHS Tapes were really Invented? 1976! It Was just a quick reminder! 😊 😘
“Does it have Oreeeegon Traaail on it??” 😂 oh I wish it did Link
You should do a mythical beast mystery box
I feel really old for using both 5 ½” and the 3 ½” floppy discs in school
Same here. You probably also remember fighting (or at least arguing spiritedly) in school over who was gonna get to play Oregon Trail on the one computer school students were allowed to use. lol
5 ¼" 😉
Fun fact most people don't know: all 5 ¼" floppies were recalled back in the mid 80s, had another ¼" added to them, then returned to the customers as 5 ½” floppies 6-8 weeks later (plus $9.99 shipping + handling)...
I'm genuinely surprised by how many details they were able to get from that pentagon photo. I had no idea about that fact about the monument!
They made that up lol. It did have renovations done but they started in '98. It was never torn down and rebuilt or anything like that.
@@rosewraith_ I wasn't sure about the monument, but after them hearing about making the Pentagon a square... lol
I have watched these two for YEARS and just now noticed Link has a Tattoo. Have I been that blind?? 3:08
I just noticed too!! I was trying to read what it says!
It a recent tattoo he got with his daughter. There's a video about it on the channel 😊
whatever sad event happened to the pentagon in the 2000s.... never forget, unless you're link.
I got a mystery box for my birthday, but they displayed a few of the items inside so I knew what to expect but there was still a surprise. And I picked 3 that seemed fun and had my sister pick and buy me one so it was still a surprise even though I knew about some of the items already. (Fun part: everything was individually wrapped too hehe)
Do more of these!!!
I went to look up Shirley Lawrence and found the Etsy listing for this painting 😂
I remember the floppy disk in the first and second grade playing the Oregon Trail game
They need to revise their rules for this game. I like it! But that specific cassette was not manufactured in the 60s, so that shouldn't be the decade it goes in... By that logic the VHS wouldn't be in the 90s.
Transparenct casettes, I believe, only existed in 80s or later.
i love how at 15:23 rhett's mug looks like it's from the 20's and link's mug looks like it's from the 2000's. very funny lol
i knew about floppy discs, but i had no clue the first ones were actually bendable.
I'm a 90s baby, and used the smaller hard floppy disks until about 2007. Also, I was hoping for the sad story of the Pentagon picture
We got smelladat, yall!
When I was a kid the store had grab bags, you never knew what was in them, but it sure was fun.
I'm glad Link found a new Nemesis. :D
Need another episode!
A book for lyrics🤣.... now my Apple Music just live streams lyrics while the song is playing....imagine what will happen by 2500??..hahaha
“Country generally calm” 😂
the headline on the new york times is about my great-great grandpa!
yo thats cool!
i like opening packages! mystery boxes are really good... and most times the items you get are much expensive when bought separately.
Prohibition was from 1919-1933.
Yep I so remember when computers were first becoming a common thing for ppl to have as I'm from the 80's and the use of floppy disks which were the SD cards and such we use today and experiencing the changes in advancement, kinda grew up behind the times in regards to the advancement of all the things in our lives, so I'm like a wise old soul and in a body that looks a lot younger than my actual age in this life 🤪
It gets me moist 😂😂😂
I love Benny Goodman.
Periodicals
Periodico: news paper in Spanish
Mystery boxes are like gambling pretty much....but its a guaranteed win.
Bad Nutty Professor seems amazing
People love surprises. I think that is really why people like them. I would never buy one, but that's just me.
I thought the episode was cool but I won't be buying a mystery box
Yo, I looked up the blood squirting lizard! What a weird thing man.
They should try Amazon mystery boxes next!
I actually made some mystery boxes for my store because of this episode
Very cool to see something from Nova 😂
So you'll see a restaurant idea on mythical kitchen episode today. The example for the mini restaurants would be like the McBell
Definitely had 5.25 floppies in the 70s!
the floppies are in the 70s, they were probably talking about that specific one they had
just to let everyone know if your curious when they were speaking about a floppy the big one was a 5 1/4 and the smaller was a 3 1/2 the 5 1/4 held 512 bites and the 3 1/2 held 1.44 mb or if it was double sided it would hold 2.44 mb ..
I am shocked the cassette tape was invented in the 60’s!!
I get mystery boxes and bags at cons. Usually 1 or 2. And some at misses but it’s fun.
I buy mystery boxes for a living so watching this was entertaining lol
I love that theyre very reasonable people, like some influencers will but a $200 bookmark but Rhett recognizes a curated box for $200 goodies is kinda whack sometimes
It's pretty obvious that anyone buying a bookmark for more than $1 is getting scammed.
I've only bought mystery boxes from RUclipsrs that make them in limited runs & they are cheaper than buying everything separately
I was feeling real old when Rhett said, who has actually used a floppy disk. Then he gave the history on a floppy disk 😂 and i not so old Cause I have never used a actual floppy disk. I just learned that 😂. I used the hard little one 😂.
BTW, the original floppy disk were called "floppy" in reference to their "floppy memory", not because they were flexible.
I wasn't even born in the 70s, but even I knew the original floppy disk was 70s.
Was cool seeing the Northern Virginia Daily, my parents still get that paper.
Rhett just looking at the pictures 😂
I buy a lot of mystery and subscription boxes, mainly just for the fun. Often I give away the content
The big disk is a 5 1/4 inch, and the small one they were talking about is a 3 1/2 inch. I used both when in school
Lol those dolls are 🔥
99% of mystery boxes have items whos collective worth are nowhere near what you payed.. far more than is justified as needing to make some profit for “business”
