  • In a break from talking about revoslots, I made a few of the smaller ‪@ThinkScalextric‬ kits this week and read through your comments.

    Hi there,
Thanks for the shout out 👍🏻. Many many different responses to your question, which demonstrates that we all see it slightly differently. Love the Magnetic Racing kits. Have bought around 20 light kits, a Dunlop bridge, and a phone gantry. They are all great kits to build, and make any circuit look better. Would suggest to any enthusiasts, please have a look at MR. You won’t be disappointed.

A brilliant way to pass the time while you sort out those kits! Surely a perfect use of those viewer comments - sort of recycling them in a very creative and relaxed manner. Great idea! Always enjoy your videos, my friend. 👍

That’s why it is important to test for lane isolation before you hook anything up!! Great find on the short on the straight lane changer..

I must say you’ve opened up a can of worms. My collection of cars consists of well loved(10-15 years old). Including 2 limited edition early F1 cars. Both now have scratches on the helmets, they really should have roll bars. One day I’ll get a brand new car and looking forward scratching it up as well. Moral is don’t sell me anything nice because I will use it as intended 😁

Great post on the collector debate , all I cam say is I am enthusiastic slot hobbyists who collects cars he could afford in his past or would have loved to been able to afford in his past . Who now collects models of those cars but is now still restricted by budget 🤭😁 great job on the steps especially liked your weathering on those . I think you drink as much coffee as I drink tea 🤗

There’s a specific type of person “collector” who never opens or uses. But most of us have a collection that grows and we love and use

Ironically Dave, I don't think we ever "grow up". Although I race once a week at a "club" track with about 12 others guys, I have a tenancy to purchase slot cars that are models of real cars I wanted as a young man but couldn't afford. We also race groups of cars like Revo Slot and classes like Trans Am and formula 1. however, we also have "race what you brung" That could include anything. It's not about how fast the car is; it's more like a "show and tell" I have no "Shelf Queens" but I can't help to notice my slot cars seem to multiply before my eyes. That's why I say it's an addiction. Unfortunately, I'm still in the denial stage so I really feel that it isn't a problem so I guess I'm a functional slot car addict.

Late in coming but better late than never . Now where have we heard that .
So though on the question , Collector or not ? Written last week , never sent oops.
Dave , you’ve got me thinking , which is the intent of your Coffee n Chat.
I have always been a model train guy with a smattering of model cars , ships n planes. Am I a collector ?
I have purchased what pleases me of course. Most of which where kits of some sort or another that I intended to build .
The exceptions were the slot cars , Aurora n AFX and Lionel O gauge trains , some HO engines as well . Just put them on the track n go . The draw was the livery scheme of course. What I call the the beauty of marketing.
I do have a few Lionel Post War engines , different numbers , same models. Guess that qualifies as collector. However all have been run . No shelf Queens.
Recently my grandkids got 1/32 slot cars from their other grandpa . I went racing with them . Eyes wide open , ideas swirling in my head . I saw a modified stock car in 1/24 in the showcase and had to build one . Built the body out of plastic sheet (most fun) , bought the
chassis , motor , gearing ,axles ,etc. and assembled.
It’s slow compared to those 1/32 rockets the kids run , but they get a kick out of passing n lapping grandpa, as grandpa absorbs their elation.
So back to the question. I guess wanting the same car in three different liveries would lean the needle toward ‘collector’. Especially if they were to be ‘shelf queens’, test run only.
On the other hand , wanting identical cars to race ‘ same class ‘ doesn’t qualify as collector in my observation.
Tinkering with the cars to improve handling, is expected , and the fun of it all.
    ENJOY !
    Keep those chats coming 😊

Great chat again Dave. After my previous comments on being a collector or an enthusiast, I have a couple of questions for you. If Revoslot released fourth CLK in a Warsteiner livery, but on a blue background, would you buy it to make up your foursome, even though it would be a fantasy livery? And if after that, they released a green one would you feel the need to buy that too? You would already have your four, but it would be a green car with a German beer livery...! I'll just leave that thought there.

    • @slotr
      @slotr  4 месяца назад +1

argh that's a thought although if it was a green one i could say it's Mrs SlotR's one

For the benches you made why don't you get the cocktail stick umbrellas that are used for cocktail drinks, as parasols in the benches they can be painted any colour.
