Obvious question with 4G I am sure, but has anyone actually used this phone for hotspotting sucessfully? Also, if the texting is not great, as some have sugessted, can oe use 'speak to text' on this phone when sending a text message?
Good hardware, terrible software that ruins it. I've had the phone for a bit longer than a month now and there have been several serious issues. So far, it has frozen up once and the only way to get it to unfreeze was to literally hold the hang up button for half a minute. You can't access the battery and pull it out in this type of situation because everything is screwed tight in order to make it waterproof, and if you tried to open it yourself you would lose your warranty. KaiOS tried to update itself once, it did not end well. After it was done "updating", it was the same OS version as before the "update". Not only that, but for some strange reason after the "update", I could no longer send or receive text messages. Thankfully, a reboot solved this... Many apps malfunction, including the ones that come already installed. Most notably, the alarm clock sometimes simply decides not to work. Thankfully, I discovered this before I missed anything important. Other times, it treats the stop button as the snooze button... A serious design flaw is the fact that you use the hang up button for many functions of the phone. It is very easy to reject an incoming call that happens to come in while you're texting, or really doing anything else on the phone. The phone, technically speaking, supports voice over internet, but that capability cannot really be used. You can download WhatsApp from the KaiStore, but the version you get for this phone with this version of the OS means you cannot use WhatsApp for calls, only for messages. Kai has its own application for calls over the internet, but literally nobody you know uses it, because it is only available for KaiOS. The hardware so far seems good. The battery has exceptional life, lasting up to two weeks without recharging. Note that this is not two weeks of the phone sitting on a shelf, I usually have several calls a day.
@@ViktorVilicic what would u recommend? I would like a battery that lasts weeks, has keyboard and can take calls and whatsapp, for the same price. But that actually works?
@@makx303 If rugged construction isn't one of the things you're looking for, you can get a thousand different models of regular smartphones which are far better, many of which are far cheaper. If you're looking for a phone with rugged construction you'd be better off buying one of the feature phones, which aren't much worse than this and cost far less, or you can go the other way and add a bit of extra money and get a rugged touchscreen smartphone that uses Android. I'm far from being an expert on mobile phones. I'm more like you; what I care most about is reliability and long battery life. The reason I got this phone was the rugged construction and long battery life, but in the end, it's terrible software means that I end up using it like a regular feature phone. now put solar panel on the back of it and it will last forever :D not even joking :D you could easily fit 1w solar panel on that :D and it takes about 10w to charge this and it will last weeks :D
Nope. If you want push to talk in rugged look into sonim phones either the brick style xp5560 or the smartphone xp7 lineups for example they have ptt buttons if your carrier supports it.
Oh thx for your reply, i so badly want the phone, is it worth the buy or is it a useless piece of shit? It seems like the perfect phone for me because i want to stop using the smartphone
ha ha I bought the cat b35 cause it was suppose to be rugged. Most frail unreliable phone i ever owned. First one just spontaneously stopped working and would not charge 3 weeks old. Got it replaced. New phone but again a cat b35 and 6 weeks later the screen goes white not responding to anything. No hard reset no nothing. Fuck that piece of crap.
don't buy it, the keyboard doesn't react as it should. If you are texting; if you click twice for a "B" the phone thinks you click 3 times for a "C" f.ex. No matter if you click the buttons with good pressure or not. I hate texting with it.
Since the US have virtually taken over the global (originally european) GSM/2G, UMTS/3G and LTE/4G scene, and facilitated by the weakness of our elites, we've lost a lot. Most haven't even started to comprehend it. And this is no coincidence. See: These mobile standards were designed by ETSI as ISDN subsystems, so that you should also be able to connect your notebook to such a phone (and its integrated modem) by cable, for being able to access the internet while on the road, via 2G-3G-4G. What does american Caterpillar offer instead? An infantile wifi hotspot. Demand a USB cable instead, you want a professional formula as we used to have before the american onslaught.
I used it,and i don't recommend it. It is nice that the phone is durable but all of that is pointles because the softwer is dying... Btw it is not even that cheap to buy...
Dont' buy this phone - not cause it's a bad phone - it's a good built qualityphone from CAT, but a shitty software in it. With the KayOS Software, you will have problems all the time..my B35 just freezed after a couple of days of use..not recomended
This looks so much better than the nokia 8110! Thanks for the great review.
Hi Annie,
They're very different devices but the CAT B35 will certainly get you through unscathed!
Got an 8110 and tempted to get this. Does it have predictive text?
I just want a phone that leaves a hole through the ground. Do you have anything for that?

Hey, Do you know if those Pre-Installed apps are able to be uninstalled?
Can you do a WiFi hotspot with it?!
Decent review mate helped me a lot on deciding whether or not i should buy it. Cheers ill drop a sub
Does google maps on the CAT B35 KaiOS OS come with the option of written directions to a destination like the Nokia 8110 4g does for example?
Bob's your uncle got me lol, subbed
does the cat b35 have preinstalled games like example snake or tetris like other nokias???

It's likely available now, it definitely wasn't at the time this comment was written; search KaiOs app store.

No volume rocker or dedicated flashlight button?
He did mention the dedicated torch button (flashlight)... and I would assume volume buttons are standard.
