Your idea of the clear optical zoom plus a nice wide prime is exactly what I was thinking before I ordered mine! - It's so refreshing to see you using the camera exactly as I intend to with USB only (no HDMI), small/light travel friendly lenses, no gimbals, etc. All the other reviews strap a 1kg lens and a gimbal to this amazingly small body and don't cover anything I care about, argh!

@@jsyntaxmedia I ended up filming a similar type video comparing a Viltrox 23mm on APS-C vs a Viltrox 24mm on Full Frame with Clear Image Zoom on my channel if you're interested. While yes, you lose resolution, but the final result still looks a lot better than APS-C!

I just watched this video on a huge 4k Sony TV and I have to say I think you are probably getting a bit too forensic and worrying too much on the differences between the two shots. In normal content creation RUclips video productions both are perfectly good images and any slight dissatisfactions can easily be fixed in post with a bit of grading. If the new lens and CIZ scenario fits your portability requirements I’d say go with it until you find your dream lens because the viewers are not going to notice when most are going to be watching on phones anyway.

I have the 20mm f1.8 and love it but it's so heavy and feels big on the zve1! I use the clear image when I need a little zoom and I love that it looks like a have a zoom option but I don't film long zoomed in. I wish they'd drop a small 18mm or even 16mm. I might try the 16-35mm PZ.

@MollyFitzBrown Have you tried the Rokinon/Samyang 18mm f2.8? It's not as bright but very lightweight and relatively inexpensive.

@@lannncan I did try it once with the a7c but then I tried the Sony 20mm and it looked so much better I returned the 18mm and kept the 20mm. I loved the size though!

i love light lenses on ZVE1. Had 28-60mm and a 50mm prime, but traded them both for 20-70mm f4. i now have that lens only for my run n gun setup. the 20-70 is really versatile, no changing lens situation, plus it is lightweight under 500 gram. i know about the need of bokeh when shooting portrait. The lens still delivers. One more aspect is sony native lens is really good for handheld and i don't like using gimbal.

I shot some fashion videos with the Viltrox 20mm at magic hour, some shots with clear image zoom some without. I still cant tell the difference. Under real life run and gun situations, focus is never perfect. I think its perfect for what I do.

You presented CIZ of this camera very informative with actual zooming / Thank you/ Additionally your face is beautiful

I think it looked amazing and could hardly tell. Its' really nitpicking at that point.. I plan on doing the exact same thing. ZVE1 and the 24mm 2.8 then I'll just zoom in to get a bit longer. The technology is amazing.

With the controlled lighting would you not consider the Sony 16-35mm F4 PZ? Small and compact as hell...i'm thinking about trading my FX30 in for that set up. Just worried about over heating with long streaming/video calls.

      I'd rather keep my tamron 20 to 40 F2.8

@@jsyntaxmedia there is something about 2.8 that just looks great compared to f4. If you don't absolutely need it, then, f4 is great. but if you want that slight blur, which I'm sure you'll get at 35 or 40mm, I bet it looks killer

At this point, I think other brands like DJI, Apple, BBK, and Samsung do digital zoom better than Sony.
Digital Zoom only works well if there's some level of AI involved in the process for filling up degraded pixels and smoothing out artifacts.
In this stellar comparison video, it's obvious that post-production digital zoom is just as good as Clear Image Zoom, rendering it almost useless for professionals.

Thanks for the test. I suspect clear image zoom might be relatively lossless on the a7iv since it's downsampling from 7k to 4k, and even at 1.5x "zoom" you're still drawing from more pixels than your need for 3840x2160 output. Whereas with the ZV-E1 you start at 4k, and by the time you get to 1.5x zoom you're well into sub-4k resolution.

    • @MurphyKargesBass

"Sub 4K" ain't too bad. I remember when 1080 was great. It still is.

Also into light weight gears lately :) im using Sigma 18-50 f2.8 APS-C lens on my A7IV for video, that one weights 290grams and gives you 27-75mm f2.8 equivalent filming 4K60fps on A7iv. Waiting for A7C II for slightly smaller body now...

Hi, I just tried at 100fps and no, it doesn't work, so it's surely the same at 120fps. It doesn't work with dynamic active stabilisation either.

Clear image zoom is a gimmick. There is no difference between CIZ and digital zoom in post. I use the Sigma 16-28 and it works great for video! Probably a bit bigger than what you are looking for, but zoom is internal so it does not extend or draw attention to it.
