    “Like you” shaped my young life. I listened to that song every day for years, and eventually I started a band and we covered that song ourselves at the end of every set. 3000 miles away from New York, and 20 years after it was written, there would still be at least a half dozen kids and maybe even a fully grown ass man or two at the mic screaming along every night. It was amazing, a fucking childhood dream come true. I’m glad to see them getting some acknowledgement for the mark they made on hardcore

    I hope this man knows how many lives he's touched... and even saved. Even for as brief a time as it was, that legend WILL live on. People like myself will make sure. Even if it's just introducing a new generation to that music. Maybe it can keep saving these outcast kids like me.

    in less than twenty minutes - 5 comments - two are dissing SXE (which i am not). Why are you even here? it's a Judge doc! Hardcore has been my life for twenty five years; and i have drank all of them. But SXE are a necessary part of my community - and one i greatly respect. I cannot understand how someone 'hates' SXE. Props to the filmmakers. this looks awesome! can't wait to see the whole film.

Allthis comes from someone who listens to an autotune fake-ass singer named "Jiggy". "you're straight bitch whether i say it or not" - talib

      hutch thirteen I get what you're saying, but there are plenty of folks who have had bad experiences with Hate Edge ( Straight Edge kids who went militant, and forced their ideals on others), so I can understand there being issues with it. I ain't SxE either, but grew up listening to the bands of the genre. I grew up just south of D.C., and there were a lot of the militant d-bag types all over that area. Also, some people just wanna start something online. So there's that.

    So sad. “The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy,” -Jesus.
    My Dad’s mom died a slow, painful death from cancer at home when my dad was 12. The nanny he had at the time because his mom couldn’t take care of him because she was sick, told my dad not to cry but to be strong for his younger brother and sisters because he was the oldest. I went through a lot of pain as a child and teen because my dad felt he wasn’t allowed to feel or release the pain of losing his mother in such a horrible way at such a young age.
    We need to take better care of each other.

    I'm highly critical of drug culture and grew up in the straight edge scene, but with some people, there's no nuance. I don't do drugs myself, but I always found it pretty ableist to view addiction in such a judgemental and individualistic way. While many in straight-edge culture are Left-wing, I saw straight-edge become a secular purity culture for many, which unfortunately easily attracts fascists as well, because they view recreational drug use as "degenerate."
    Addiction is a medical and psychological problem. It doesn't excuse the fucked up things some people do when drunk or high, but I wish straight-edge culture would take a more compassionate view and come up with solutions through solidarity.
    I just don't understand the all or nothing view anymore. I have so many friends that will smoke a little weed to relax and get help with their anxiety (saying "I don't need drugs" in a capitalist system with no universal healthcare is right-wing bullshit), and they don't get fucked up, neglect others, or hurt anyone. Most of them all avoid wild parties because they hate that bullshit too.

      I always liked drinking beer and hitting bongs and listening to minor threat and earth crisis, i dont understand the separation other than some people really need the identity anchor, but in the end, sobriety alone doesnt make a person better than someone else, its insecure to have such simplistic perceptions. I think most of us grow up and the lines blur, as we start realizing this kid can smoke a joint and still relate to the feeling of rage someone sober and angry is laying down, and some straight edge for lifers can come to really dig some guitar riffs born from wasted heads. Seeing Earth Crisis play Hell Awaits was a happy moment in my mind cuz there didn't have to exist this black or white all or nothing.it was like two friends you thought wouldnt get along hitting it off oe something. Hardcore will always inspire me and light my soul off, but in the end im just gonna be me doing me, however it fits or doesnt fit, it is what it is. 🤘🏽

    I got curious about this band when a guy at the post office noticed my Black Flag patch when I went to pick up some records and mentioned Judge. I have never quite understood the whole "straight edge" thing. I don't sniff glue myself, but a lot of my heroes are drug and booze guys...A lot of great artists are...That is their trip, who cares? I thought "punk" was supposed to be about individuality...I never did get the self righteous trip.....I dig the "F. You" aspect, and if you don't like the fact that I drink beer, smoke weed, eat steak, drink coffee, smoke cigarettes, or even if I did sniff glue, what is it to you? And being a vegetarian of vegan? Are you kidding me? Some good music, but probably one of the weirdest and pompous "scenes" to ever develop....I get the concept of abstaining from druggery if that is your trip...I am a recovering addict and alcoholic myself, but to build a whole scene out of it with such a holier than thou trip to it....I don't get it.

    • @abbnohrmall
      @abbnohrmall 8 лет назад +1

      Definitely not...I came of age in the late 70's and 80's when the first wave of authentic punk was really popping....Been into the scene ever since....I have been "straight edge" in the regards of not using drugs and booze for a long time, but yeah, I will never understand how you could build a musical or cultural movement off of that....And if it involves vegetarianism or veganism, I am completely disinterested....The guy in this band "Judge" looks like he eats a lot of cheeseburgers though, so I guess there are loopholes. All of that being said, there is definitely some solid music that came out of the movement. But as for a "lifestyle" or whatever, I could never attach myself to this or any other facet of punk or anything else...In a way, that almost seems to contradict what "punk" has always meant to me. I was going to say "To each his own", but I don't know if that even applies if you are identifying yourself that closely with such a set of "rules"...Yeah, it makes no sense to me, but to each his own, I guess.....

    • @abbnohrmall
      @abbnohrmall 8 лет назад +5

      Oh, I get it...I have no delusions about being "straight edge" nor would I want to be. I chose not to do drugs and drink for my own reasons, not because I have made a "promise"...That all sounds really pretentious and gregarious. Frankly, the antithesis of all thinks "punk" as far as I am concerned.

  • @The1stDukeDroklar
    @The1stDukeDroklar 9 лет назад +2

    And why do men think that to display your emotions makes you less of a Man? The fact is it makes you far more than merely a Man. It takes far more strength and courage to go against all the conditioning and to face the ridicule of the cowards that call themselves men. To be scorned by most women as well who are subject subconsciously to the same conditioning that permeates society for thousands of thousands of years (that's millions for any of the alts that like to follow me looking for a way to prick and jab at what I say).
    That mentality is also the indoctrinated automatic thinking that leads every man to look down upon women and yet most women play right into that same line of thought without realizing it. They seem to think that it indicates weakness when in fact indicates a real super man...something they very rarely may come across in their lives... if ever.
    As far as him feeling bad about what he said about a family member... "my own blood", Wtf has that got to do with anything? The fact is that family will treat you worse than strangers. They will cut you the deepest as they betray you time and time again. I have walked away from nearly every family member I ever knew for these reasons. The only real family I have are friends who have yet to betray my trust or try to use my kindness as a weakness.... few and far between.

      I was kinda foolin' around and trying to act funny, but you just replied in a profoundly relevant sentiment(slightly cheesy, but none the less profound) so I'll oblige and try to reply in kind
      MY TAKE=By definition: Nothing can be perfect , so anything rooted in imperfection is indeed ...perfect.(are the words implications diminished because of it? ...I.D.K)
      Case and pint: A perfect mess is often viewed as beautiful art to anyone with a perspective rooted in the act of science.(a person who doesn't operate under preconceived notions, and instead takes life as it comes and acts accordingly)
      In other words: The difference between "remembering and regurgitating" v.s "understanding and working through/solving with a working knowledge")
      My experience: Straight edge mentalities are usually birthed from a lack of a working knowledge about the world(and everything in it) happening around you, in combination with a blanketed hate for substance that was amounted through personal experience with no willing involvement.(usually at a time in the persons life when they're lacking the capacity to grasp the larger concepts accompanied with substance use and substance abuse)
      It also implies a totalitarian thought scope reminiscent of the very complacency the majority of "straight-edge" narratives claim to be against.
      The few straight edge people I've met are drastically different than the vast majority of "straight edge punkers" who all too often seem to assume that "straight edge" has a few looks, a few faces, a few styles, and a common agenda among "the-tribe"(another example of insecurity producing tribalism and masking it as strength)
      Bla Bla Bla....Rant done.

    • @Gunz4Hire187
      @Gunz4Hire187 6 лет назад

      SK8EVERYTHING 4EVER I agree with, however a large part of the straight edge movement in terms of harboring some kind of hatred towards drugs etc I think comes second to the idea of fitting into a community, they could have a fear of drugs and alcohol and mask that with hatred or some militant attitude. However, the same is found in any form of community or counter culture. I got into hardcore, not some generic metal which led to hc, but specifically hardcore punk when I was around 8. So even though I'm 35 now and my attitude had changed about some things, I still have that inclusive attitude towards all these generations of kids nowadays and that'll probably never go away. I've known quite a few kids who got into straght edge for honest reasons and those who are pseudo groupies. I've never been or have any interest in it other than listening to some of the SE bands of the era. I'm from CT, so back in the early 90s there was a ton of the champion hoodie wearing your crew style going on. Those were some of my first shows.

      The generations these days have nothing except RUclips heroes who run their lives. There is no counter culture. The major of hardcore has gone to shit and alot of that has to do with the labels and the ozzfest cornball types being exposed to fucking hatebreed and thinking they know the score with their bubblegum version of things.
