  • Okay, so, you know that feeling when you’ve got like a million tabs open and zero idea where anything is? I turned all that into a VR memory palace. Using Unity, I tried to bring joy back to my research - now I can literally walk through it.

    this is actually a brilliant idea, if someone was to create something like this but with like integrated browing (you use some shortcut to actually open the website) and the ability or create a new palette or whatever and a file browser and a notes app/IDE, doesnt even have to be a heavy one you could just inegrate Kate or Lite XL or even Obsidian I would literally pay for that ngl

    This is dope! I don't know why RUclips suggested this but I'm glad it did.
    I've long thought that VR could be a very compelling spatial information place.
    I am personally working on a social version of this kind of thing -- virtual memory palaces are a really cool manifestation of our digital lives!
    Keep up the good work man.

    Sweet Mother of God! This is revolutionary. You are literally building your own matrix with all content you gather. But I have a question. How do you categorize everything and how portable it is ?

    Nice! I also had an idea like this before, a minecraft-like sandbox world where I could build and store information like a memory palace. Would be nice if we could actually build things and make it more visual instead of a bunch of tabs and book pages laying arround.
    Imagine studying Biology for example, you could build an actual Zoo or maybe a garden for Botany, then add mind-maps, book pages, videos or whatever you want.
    You could just use your creativity and keep expanding and building stuff as you learn more. AI could also help you do all this without too much effort, imagine just asking for an image or a 3D model of something and it just pops up right in front of you.

      I actually used the memory palace a lot studying for college exams. But I usually just created a tower-like building for a subject, and each floor had a certain theme for a topic in this subject. For example, I had a Data Science tower that had a floor full of pandas playing and rolling arround, some were organizing stuff into a table, others were doing math, all of these actions were related to functions from the pandas library in Python.
      This specific Data Science exam was almost 3 years ago, and the fact that I still remember most of the floors shows how powerful this technique is. If I had the tower "saved" somewhere and could revisit it, I'm sure I would still have perfect retention for this subject.

    Are you literally building a mental palace in Unity?
    Edit: just saw you meantion in the video; If I were you and trying to make this actually usefull, I'd make into a minecraft mod (or roblox, since its easier to learn), that way I could not only use the "framework" of a pre-existing game, but also the whole modding scene behind it

      I mean realistically, having a 3d space memory place should become almost impossible to organize because humans usually think in higher dimension, I feel like a personalized AI that only runs locally that gathers your preferences and your values should be more optimal.

    • @EJFox
      @EJFox  3 дня назад +1

      I was actually just thinking about that- my intuition is that there should only be one “original” but maybe there is a mechanism to make copies, and an easy way to find the original? Would love to hear more about how you would use copies

    • @tinobomelino7164
      @tinobomelino7164 3 дня назад

      @@EJFox when you put objects in different rooms or just put them in proximity to each other you have a perspective/metric in mind under which those objects fit together. for example the "psychology room" where everything psychology related is stored. but concepts have fuzzy borders and one "thing" can relate to many other concepts. you could have a "writing room" where you put ideas for your stories, but then you want to talk about a topic in the psychology room.
      it's the same problem that folders have. one file can only be in one place.
      if you make the "original"/"copy" distinction, there will be a problem for the case that you initially thought something should be in room a, make a copy in room b and then you change your ontology and decide that you want to delete the original in room a. it shouldn't matter which one is the original.
      also: one screenshot is always a collection of things. maybe you want to talk about the picture in the article and the content. or different paragraphs of the content.
      the mind palace in the brain is not a fixed layout with one definite structure but a graph that can be viewed through multiple lenses.
