I have just returned from Southern Mindanao, Philippines and arrived in Sabah, Malaysia a few days ago. I was surprised to see how much richer and developed Sabah is compared to Southern Mindanao. The city in Sabah is clean and tidy, giving it the appearance of a developed country, unlike Southern Mindanao which is less developed. It's interesting to note that both regions were under the same government a few hundred years ago.

Did you take a ferry from Mindanao or by air??

    • @msdaina

May be by smuggle(speepboat) from southern Philippines and Sabah at near islands boundary.

@@msdaina well I think for me not a good idea to go with those illegal barter boats. I have to get stamps.

@@wattstraveling Just on the Lifejacket thing. I worked in Oil Gas in Malaysia for a number of years. When we went offshore by boat out of Miri, we used to pick our lifejackets up from the hotel the night before and hold them for the period we were deployed offshore. It seems strange logic but it's to make you responsible for your safety. Great memories. Terrific country and Borneo one of the best parts of it. Great people the head hunters. The night market you visited is known as a wet market.

The reason they want you to put on your life jacket on is because there have been several unfortunate drowning deaths of tourists… mainly from China and Korea. I’m glad they’re doing something to keep visitors safe . But further investigations revealed most these deaths were linked to illegal tour operators. Wishing you guys safe travels
