Good to see you again, Greg! A very helpful video. I'm still working on my first safety razor -- the Parker Variant, which is really all I need. The savings difference allows me to spend more on my addiction to shaving soap and after shave balm. Take care!
Hey greg just wanna say thank for introducing me to this hobby. I really love your vids. They are really nice to watch and the editing just gets better and better. Hope you have a nice day mate ! 😁
A very enjoyable video. Thanks Greg. It looks to be a very interesting design and I'd sure like to have a shave with one, sometime, and make a video but it is out of my price range. I suspect it will be so for an awful lot of people but there will be plenty who can afford this and will buy it. It's nice to see something a little different. Cheers
Wowwwwww...My mom lost her legs in the war, Greg. Too soon. Too soon. (Actually, I just made that up. She's fine, and plays a lot of golf.) Great review, buddy! That's a snazzy looking razor. I'm hoping this means some older Blacklands will pop up on the buy/sell/trade pages. The hat looks awesome!
I absolutely cracked up! I wish you could have seen my reaction. I may show this to my mom. She's got a good sense of humor. She's in my fantasy league and has no mercy. @@GregTardif
Can you do a video going over what you think makes a good razor? I like how you don't compare each razor and instead say if it works for you so I'd like to see a video where you list your wants and needs from a razor. Hello from Wales.
Honest question, I also have very sensitive skin. Which was your favourite between the Osprey, Konsul and Muramasa? Or do you have another adjustable that you prefer over these?
Greg, I just rewatched your video on the Konsul. I was curious, how do you rate the Konsul vs. the Osprey. I know one is a slant. Just wanting your advice. I shave every other day, just normal growth and beard. Thanks
Seems like a great razor, Just I can't spend the money when I have a few razors that give me great shaves. I want it and a Rex Ambassador. Just a Gillette slim gives me a great shave for a lot less money.
What do you prefer the Rex konsul or this adjustable? Since they are approximately the same price granted one is a slant and one isn’t. I think my wife would divorce me if I bought both. Figured I would ask for a birthday / Xmas present
Well Greg your Video was very good, it sort of sold me on the Ospray. Not sure I would plunk down over 300 buck for razor. But you did good review BigG👍.
This is the first video I’ve looked at for this razor, other videos for this razor have been popping up by other wet shave gurus the past couple weeks and I was determined not to look at any of them, I figured 33 DE razors were plenty for my shave den, well I don’t know what came over me to view yours, must’ve been the cool hat, now my finger is trembling over the buy now button. P.S. I have the blackbird in both the stainless and titanium models, they’re 2 of my favorites but I do prefer the weight of the stainless model.
@@GregTardif I have to. We have hard water here. (Funfact. My wife uses Gillette shaving creme from a can, to remove the calcium from our taps. And it works perfectly.)
You're REALLY messing with the whole "I switched to DE shaving to get a better shave and to save money" story... At least the latter part! Yours in truth and justice, The Night Shaver.
Would you pay $500 for it if your monthly salary was $900? I had a borrowed safety razor for $400 at home and discovered that one of my safety razors that cost me $3 was far better.
Which would keep even more people from purchasing. There’s no reason to make this $500 other than being a tad bit greedy. I’ll possibly do $320, but 500 is an absolute no-go.
@@lew708 Appears to be listed for $350 on the Blackland site. That's still less than the Tatara, about $380 when converted (there is a sale this weekend though).
Devil's advocate here. No reason to charge $500 you said. With all due respect, there is. Most of us won't pay it. Nor will we pay $320. I've mentioned it before but my Merkur Progress is my be all, end all razor to rule them all. Ya, I've got many others, and some more expensive, but I should sell them all, because the Merkur is the one I reach for - the one I couldn't be without. Long story short, even if this one is better (and I doubt it!), there is literally NO WAY it is $260 better. I'm certainly not willing to spend the $ to find out. ANYWAY, now that I've sounded like a total grump, I DID love the review, and your vids are always awesome!! Hope my remarks didn't come across as caustic, just throwing out my opinion!
As they say… one man’s meat is another man’s poison. I have a Merkur Progress and think it’s junk: poorly made and difficult to use. I’ve never been able to get a smooth or comfortable shave from it, on any setting. I think the problem is that the blade doesn’t sit straight in the head - or, at least, I can’t get it to sit straight. I’ve got nothing to say about the Osprey. Greg thinks it’s worth the price. Maybe it is, maybe it isn’t. I think I’ll check it out on the Blackland website, but I doubt I’ll pull the trigger.
@@jmw3938 Odd how that works, isn't it? Goes to show how performance results can be so personal from individual to individual. For example, I bought a pack of 100 Voskhod blades cuz I was so certain I'd like them after hearing all the rave reviews - soo smooth and sharp, etc. They tear my face up regardless of whatever razor I put them in! One of the worst ever for my face, yet tons of people love them. Like you said, one man's meat.. Ya the Blackland interests me too, but I'd have to try it first before commiting to that kind of expenditure. Unfortunately, test drives aren't a part of the razor buying experience! LOL

I have the Muramasa but I've been tempted to get the Osprey also. I was close to buying one when they ran the Black Friday sale.. but ended up I bought a lot of other items instead. I'm still considering the Osprey but I'm doing as much research on it as I can first.. maybe if they do another sale in January I'll pick it up, I dunno.. I'm just concerned maybe the Muramasa and the Osprey would be too similar.. or that the Osprey may even be a downstep from the Muramasa.. so that it would be irrelevant for me to buy it also. As for adjustables, I also have the Rex Ambassador and a few restored vintage Gillette adjustables. So.. I'm wondering if I need the Osprey or even if it's different enough to warrant purchase.
@@HülaguHan63 I agree with you 100%. This is a very smart decision. Best to wait for a while instead of buying a new release.. as new releases usually have some teething problems that get ironed out in future editions. It is the same with everything, from razors to cars to computers and game consoles. Even the Ambassador was said to have some issues in the early runs which they fixed at later date. I got Ambassador only recently so it had been out for years at that stage. Very wise to wait like you said. Thanks.
