Thank you Father Mike for explanation and giving context . God’s objective in disciplining and training people was for their good. God was seeking their best interest. Moses warns people against the danger of not listening to the voice of their God, the one from who all blessings flow and to obey God and thank God when they live a life of material abundance in the promised land. 🌟🕯️Dear God, You are king of kings... I trust You in darkness and in sunlight. You are shepherd of my soul , and I want to follow, wherever he leads me, wherever he goes. Such a deep and wonderful reflection today, Fr. Mike. Many, many thanks for helping all of here to understand better. Praying for you, all priests and religious, and all the faithful. Praying also for the faithfully departed. ❤
As a fifteen year old girl getting confirmed this year, I'm very lucky to have God's guidance when going through the bible. This is so wonderful. I usually don't comment, but I am going to be proud of myself this time next year, knowing I read the whole bible so young. Thank you Fr. Mike.

Let Deuteronomy chapter 8 also be a warning to America. Don't let the prosperity given to you by God (through the means of limited government, free markets, and Christianity) make you forget God, who is the source and summit of your prosperity. If America refuses to come back to God, our nation will fall.
This is amazing! Everyone day has been truly an amazing gift from God to walk through the Bible and really understand what is going on. Getting to know God, it feels like, for the first time, after 50 years of going to church. How powerful. Thank you God for Father Mike and the ability to hear your word in such a meaningful way.
These passages reminded me of a very hateful comment from The Simpsons when Bart Simpson said, "We did all this ourselves so thanks for nothing God." I have NEVER watched this show again and would not allow any of my children to watch it. I thank God every day for what I have and the first hour of my day is for prayer. Wow FR Mike... so incredible how beautifully you know scripture....thank you for your time and expertise..I in helping us to comprehend..God bless you and your Team.
Lord Jesus, I humbly pray for myself, Father Mike, and all the people participating in the Bible-in-Year podcast. May your word take deep root in our hearts and transform our ways of thinking, deciding, and acting. May your grace open our ears to hear and understand the word of God in the Scriptures that we may revere and treasure both the Old and the New Testaments which God has prepared for all who desire to enter his kingdom. Send us your Holy Spirit to give us the Spirit of Knowledge, that we may know God and know ourselves. Give us the grace to approach the Word of God with meekness and humility, and with an eagerness to do everything God desires. Help us to be diligent students and faithful disciples of your word. May our hearts never grow dull and may our ears never tire of listening to your voice. Amen.

The idea that we forget God when things are good in our lives is so true. As someone who has known some serious ups and downs (many downs) in my life, without my faith, I would be totally lost. This podcast is amazing. I am on my second year of reading the Bible with Father Mike. His talks about what the readings are telling us are always so good. I have learned so much that I did not know before. I love my daily Bible time!
Good morning Fr Mike Schmitz ! This is my second year listening to BIY. I enjoy it and it's becoming a part of my daily morning routine like home school ing. Thank you for all you do and may God continue to bless you 🙏❤️
Grateful Father Mike, your explanation at the end makes gospels easier to understand…….You’re remembered in prayer as all Shepherds of our Holy Catholic Apostolic Church…I love so much…..
Wow Deuteronomy 8:3: And He humbled you and let you hunger and fed you with manna, which you did not know, nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes from the Mouth of the Lord.
This is one of the most important things that happen without us knowing. We are happy or busy being happy then we forget God. The reason why we need to remember God is because when we remember God, we are also remembering the commandments as well as teachings of Moses, David, and Jesus. We also remember the learnings from Job, Samson, Psalms, Proverbs, and Ecclesiastes. Thus, by remembering God, we also remain wise and more likely to avoid errors and sins. In pride, gluttony, and arrogance of success, riches, and fame, many great humans have made mistakes that led to their downfall. Thus, this is a great reminder. Thank you so much, Fr. Mike, and Team Ascension! God bless you, and the fellow listeners
Prayers for you Father Mike,as well as for the Ukraine and the people there! I am so grateful for this podcast, every day! It's day 59 on Feb 28. Thanks be to God!
Thank you , Fr. Mike , for explaining the Bible so well. Praying for you daily and for all of us on this spiritual journey with you. I am strengthened by the knowledge that our loving God is with us in our battle against evil.

Lord, We praise you for being our light. You alone satisfy our deepest longings. Help us to be fully devoted to you and trust in your direction to move when you move and stay when you call us to stay. Let us not give into the temptation that partaking in the Eucharist can be excused for “good reason” or isn’t necessary every week. Wow, we are already at the end of February, 2022 has flown by so far. As always, I am incredibly grateful to this podcast for giving me a place to constantly hear the Lord's Word. Numbers 8 tells of the ceremony of lighting the lampstand of the Tabernacle. God instructed Moses to take the Levites and cleanse them by sprinkling water of purification on them. A sacrifice would be made to dedicate the Levites to the Lord and to make atonement. God states that the Levites are His "firstborn" in the sense that rather than taking the firstborn child of all the Israelites, God passed over the households with lamb's blood and made the Levites servants of the Lord as a gift to Aaron. Thus, Levites were dedicated to serve the Tabernacle at the age of 25 until the age of 50. As you mentioned, the Passover ceremony foreshadows the Lamb of God, Jesus, who would later atone for our sins. Numbers 9 shows God instructing Moses to observe the first Passover since they were in Egypt within the Wilderness of Sinai. Even the unclean were allowed to keep the Lord's Passover. However, those who did not keep the Lord's Passover were cut off from the Israelites and shall bear their sin. We also learn that the Israelites moved according to God's Cloud over the Tabernacle. When the Cloud was over the Tabernacle, the Israelites would camp for as long as the Cloud stayed there. When the Cloud picked up, the Israelites would continue. I appreciated your commentary on how just like the Israelites would be separated from God by failing to participate in the Old Covenant, we the Christians will be separated from God by failing to participate in Mass. It is a grave sin to avoid Mass when we are able to attend so we must do our part to glorify and worship the Lord and honor the New Covenant. Deuteronomy 8 shows Moses reminding the Israelites that their 40 day journey was God's test that was meant to humble them so that they would keep His Commandments. He used this test to educate them and make them men. Moses reminds them that the Land they are approaching is blessed by the Lord. Moses warns them not to forget the Lord when they receive these blessings and to avoid pride. Thus, they must remind themselves that it is the Lord's Grace that allows them to find fortune. Those who abstain from remembering the Lord and embrace idolatry will perish. As you said, we need God most when we are down on our luck, but we still need the Lord even in our best days. For it is God's Grace that allows us to prosper so we must continue to glorify and worship the Lord. Psalm 93 proclaims the Lord's majesty. We proclaim the Lord's everlasting throne. We profess the Lord's strength over all. We recognize the Lord's Holiness. Thanks be to God! Day 59 - 2/28/2022

A Catholic Joke! A priest was out for a walk one evening and made an unannounced stop at the house of one of his parishioners. He knocked on the front door, but no one answered. He then heard a noise from someone inside the house, but still no one answered the door. The priest took out a business card and on the back wrote, "Revelation 3:20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice, open the door and I will enter and dine with you and you with me". He then stuck the business card in the door. The next Sunday during Mass he saw his business card in the collection basket. He reached down and pulled it out of the basket and noticed there was something else written on the back. Below his message it read, "Genesis 3:10 I heard the sound of your voice in the garden and I was afraid, because I was naked, so I hid".

Matthew 4:1-4 states that after JESUS fasted for 40 days and 40 nights he was hungry. Then satan tested JESUS by saying,"if you are the son of GOD,command these stones to be made into bread." JESUS answered saying,"it is written, man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of GOD!
Forgive me Lord for the time I forgot you, thank you for your faithfulness to protect and care in whateve situation I may be. Bless Fr. Mike sweet JESUS.

Matthew 4:1-4 states that after JESUS fasted for 40 days and 40 nights he was hungry. Then satan tested JESUS by saying,"if you are the son of GOD,command these stones to be made into bread."
JESUS answered saying,"it is written, man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of GOD!

Thank you Fr., such a blessing, God bless!
Great lesson especially for those of us who sometimes think we succeed on our own.
When and where God moves, you move. Led to be tested and trained to receive their promise that they will have to fight for. It appears there is no rest for the righteous until Kingdom Come!!!!
