Louie Masinter (my father on bass), Louie Prima-trumpet, Godfrey Hirsch-vibes, Meyer Weinberg-clarinet, Frank Frederico-guitar, Frank Pinero-piano. They played famous nightclubs between New York and L.A in the late 30's during the big band era often on the same circuit as other larger, more famous name bands. While in L.A. they were in several movies. They were 3 Jewish and 3 Italian musicians playing their own unique style of music. DM
Dave Masinter....they are simply WONDERFUL....Love Prima and his band....talent and creativity like this simply no longer exist, sadly. Terrific talent.
Louis Prima ... one of the GREATEST jazz artists EVER! What a terrific clip ... so much talent just all over the place in this film. I love it that there is no electric plug anywhere, unlike today. Everything is entirely acoustic.
We have two new kittens, and I left youtube on and walked in they were listening to Swing Cats, HAHA I couldn't believe it. They are 13 weeks old and obviously into jazz....
great post....1938 hell i was not even thought of. im only 23 and im a black male living in Detroit i might add. this music is unheard of where i come from...im glad i know my roots...cuz after all music is Motown. i just wish more in my generation would pay attention. but i can't blame them. no ol' school cats show us love either.
Is there a way to download this video in good quality? Do you mind sharing this with me and my brothers? that is my father, Louis Masinter on bass and we would LOVE being able to have this for all time. Daddy played with Frank Frederico on guitar and Godfrey Hirsch on xylophone for many many years and Frank attended his funeral 14 years ago. They are now playing with Louis on the big bandstand in the sky now.
the male singer and swing dancer surely is a veeeerrrry young Buddy Ebsen. He had a great and fascinating career. During WWII he was one of those special Hollywood people (like Jimmy Stewart) who fought against the "suits" who wanted him to be bond salesmen or USO-type entertainers. After the Navy foolishly turned him down, he joined the Coast Guard and served as genuine, full service officer.
you right painfield! i guess its a shame on us all. but at least sum of us take off our hats to fellow artist no matter wat generation of music. after all, good music is good music. cheers to you!
Tunes in this short- Way Down Yonder in New Orleans I Can't Give You Anything, But Love - v Shirley Lloyd (unknown tune) You're an Education. - v Ted Gary Loch Lomond - v Louis Prima
hope you got your download. contact me if not from one musicians' daughter to another. my father was Johnny Mathis' tour pianist & conductor for many years.
Love the youtube comments for comments like yours. So many descendants of the great entertainers make it feel like a great big family get together. You must have great stories!
@tweezee you know, cool cats didn't show much love in their own time, imagine them old grumpy bastards that lived then hearing music now! Almost sure it's going to be the same for us hearing techno new-age rap pop&roll but evolution in culture yo see from the moment backwards, not viceversa! Cheers!
@tweezee I don't if you got a reply or not, but download RealPlayer, place your cursor at the top right corner of the video, and a button will appear that will allow you to download the video in flv. fromat.
@lamontlewis, You're right, that is Buddy. I don't know how I didn't recognize him earlier. I would like to have seen him do the Tin Man, he was a good choice.
This is real serious playing: Folks I have a question: Does anyone if Louis Prima and the great trombonist Jack Teagarden ever crossed paths.? That would have been something to hear
Prima looked cool in the 50s but a bit creepy here. If this is '38 then jive and lindy hopping was around for along time before rock & roll got hold of it. Love those drum kits without the low cymbals obliterating everything.

Dave Masinter....they are simply WONDERFUL....Love Prima and his band....talent and creativity like this simply no longer exist, sadly. Terrific talent.
What a great show these guys put on - professional to the highest level.
This may be one of the best thing's I've ever seen.

Absolutely!
"The joint was jumpin'". Great film!

Hello there. The Hibernian club was losing their kilts. That was grand. Thanks for the memories.

Brilliant video! Amazing version of "Loch Lomond". I do not know whether this short was issued in UK at the time. I have never seen it before. A gem.

My Dad, the bass player here, was in the CG Band in New Orleans during WWII
Awesome - What a showman and musician. You don't see this anymore unfortunately.
According to the IMdb.com, this is a short film from 1938. The dancers are Ted Gary and Mitzi Dahl.
Great version of Loch Lomond at 5:08. I love it!
this is great. Thanks for the upload.
This movie was in 1938, Louis Prima was 28 years old. Check IMDB for more info.
Continutity! At 2:55, Louis is seen producing a muted-trumpet sound with no mute in the horn. The mute magically appears at 3:18.
I was thinking the exact same thing
*****
editing...obviously.
Good catch.
Now this is more like it!
First part of this is "Way Down Yonder in New Orleans", my home town as well as Mr Prima's.
Look at that cool cat swing!
you right painfield! i guess its a shame on us all. but at least sum of us take off our hats to fellow artist no matter wat generation of music. after all, good music is good music. cheers to you!
No one: The epileptic kid when the lights are turned on and off rapidly 4:04
this question deserves an answer - i'd like to know, too.
Bellissimo!
@JonaVicis That is Jed Clampett, AKA Buddy Ebsen, a fine dancer.

Brain blow!!!👍👍👍

not Buddy Ebsen, photos of Buddy from the same years proves it. The dancer is uncredited.
@tweezee you know, cool cats didn't show much love in their own time, imagine them old grumpy bastards that lived then hearing music now! Almost sure it's going to be the same for us hearing techno new-age rap pop&roll but evolution in culture yo see from the moment backwards, not viceversa!

Very early Prima! Before Sam Butera???
Great1!!
@lamontlewis, You're right, that is Buddy. I don't know how I didn't recognize him earlier. I would like to have seen him do the Tin Man, he was a good choice.
Great
Check out the male tap dancer - his moves were great.... obviously he didn't make it to Hollywood films. Too bad, he was that good.
+jeansplace1 He's amazing!
jeansplace1 - You hit the nail right on the head....the male tap dancer was fantastic.
Ted Gary is the tap dancer and he only appears in two short films this one and another. Perhaps he did a lot of stage work?
@@kayedeedid Thank you. I wanted to find out who he was. Who was the girl? She looks like Jane Withers.
@JonaVicis I don't recognize him but he is not Ray Bolger. Ray was tall and lanky, the scarecrow in the Wizard Of Oz.
happy super bowl to ya! lol
My good these people are so cool
this is entertainment!
1936 is when this was and also im your 100th comment
♥♥♥
This is real serious playing: Folks I have a question: Does anyone if Louis Prima and the great trombonist Jack Teagarden ever crossed paths.? That would have been something to hear
THAT IS DANCING!!!
what movie is this from? also is the girl Lily Ann Carol?
Was the dancer a young Ray Bolger?
Have you tried Savevid ? I use this website for downloading videos from RUclips. Type it in on google, youtube won't let me post a link
Frank Sinatra is like coffee with sugar. Dean Martin is like coffee with cream. Louis Prima is like coffee with pasta!!
So which one is supposed to be Buddy Ebsen?
@suze9088
Search around google you can find ways to download the video to your own computer.
Which year
That's not Buddy Ebsen. Search "Buddy Ebsen 1938" on RUclips and look at his song and dance vids. I would like to know who this guy is though.
Ted Gary, a virtual unknown. He had a few small parts on Broadway. Man, could he dance!
Ah, Louis Prima celebrating his Irish heritage...? Great stuff though :)
Prima looked cool in the 50s but a bit creepy here. If this is '38 then jive and lindy hopping was around for along time before rock & roll got hold of it. Love those drum kits without the low cymbals obliterating everything.
Pokey Lafarge, is that you?
Who the Female vocalist?
Had to be in the early 1930s by the size of the drum set
Library of Congress says 1938.

@@Brodee23033 Hey! My father is on bass in this video. He played with your dad for many years!
Louis invented RnR... Forget Elvis n Chuck Berry!!!!
I'm in love with Louis, but you can't forget Chuck Berry

MCMXXXVIII = 1938
@230606230606 Pal, that's Buddy Ebsen. If I didn't see his face, I'd know his moves. Buddy was a hoofer, not a dancer. Believe me, that's Buddy.
real player is very good

03:30 Worst date ever and he can dance too

Lindy hop musica moderna
@suze9088

What?
There's always one.
