If you are travelling to Spiti via Manali-Kaza route, skip Manali and stay in Solang (30 mins from Manali). Staying in Solang (850 ft) acclimatise you much better than Manali (6500 ft) before you drive to Kaza (12000 ft).
Even if you are not going to Kaza, visit Solang from Manali to skip the crowd and enjoy time amidst beautiful mountains with ample options to do adventure activities !!
