As a woman of color, I'd recommend doing protective hair styles so you don't have to worry about blow-drying or straightening your hair. This can be braids, getting hair installed, etc. I've always gone natural, but sometimes that can be a lot of work and doesn't give me the look I desire for those vacation photos. For the first time, I'm trying out faux dread locks and I'm excited to test them out. They're a bit pricey, but you only have to buy one set and they last for a really long time and can be re-used.
You dont actually have to buy mini sized toiletries (they are sometimes really expensive for the little amount you get). You can buy a set of mini bottles (Ikea, Sephora, etc.) and fill it with the stuff you actually have at home and love. I would.also recommend taking only stuff you really like and and have tried before 😊 and if you bought.something that is in a small sized bottle and can be opened, rinse it and use it again and again 😊 and for you perfume buy a perfume atomizer, dont take whole bottle of it 😊
I got a kit of a bunch of travel sized bottles complete with a funnel for refilling for $5 at Marshall’s. and it comes in a clear bag so you can use it as a liquid bag for security. I would definitely recommend investing in one of those because it’s convenient and also a little more eco-friendly.
I'm all about the baby wipes. Sometimes you can't or don't have time to shower and they are a lifesaver. Also I bring a few freezer ziplocks(or stasher bags) for wet/dirty clothes and other storage needs. I pack my bathing suit in it. It means if my suit is not dry by the time I leave my destination, I don't get everything else wet
I love this! My husband and I always pack baby wipes for after use of doing number two. I never used baby wipes until I started dating him, but now I can't imagine a life without them. Side note: I'd make sure in whatever country you're visiting that you're allowed to flush such things down the toilet.
Yes! Go the zip lock bags! SO many uses - you'll never travel again without them once you try them (store anything you're worried about leaking in transit, for snacks or any food items you take out of packaging or peel then don't finish, anything that might not have dried from your shower b4 u get back on the road - washer, soap, shower cap or underwear that hasn't quite dried, dry-proof electronics etc etc)
Loved this! I would add going to Ulta or Sephora and asking for free samples, specifically things you already use. They sometimes have great masks! I also always travel with disinfecting wipes so I can clean literally everything in my area on the plane. I also bring personal wipes so I can "shower" on longer flights.
Hi Nadine, I'm so glad to have stumbled upon your channel! In one week I will be leaving for my first big solo trip to Southeast Asia and your tips and tricks helped me a lot! Many thanks for the inspiration :)
You can just use shampoo to wash your clothes, too. It's for getting out dirt and body oils, sounds perfect. And I know some people can't handle this one, but some shampoos are gentle enough to be a face and body wash, too.
Shampoo is actually a great substitute for laundry detergent if you're in a bind or don't have tons of space. I also love to carry a cloth grocery bag that packs small so I'm not using too many plastic bags for no reason (since a lot of countries don't have the best disposal/recycling programs, I feel extra guilty using one use plastics travelling) ☺️
Bring a pareo or sarong, it has so many uses. Privacy curtain when you’re staying in a dorm, blanket, beach / floor mat, makeshift carry-on... And of course, to cover up when visiting places like religious sites.
I always travel with wet wipes/make-up wipes. They're great for those days you don't have time for a shower, or when you've got a long flight and just need a quick touch up. On longer trips I'll pack some sort of food from home (my go-to is poptarts), because when the homesickness hits, sometimes you just want a little taste of home. And plastic bags of all sizes! Good for packing snacks, lunch, or other things while you're at your location, bigger ones can be used for wet clothes/swim suits, and you can use them to separate things in your luggage on your way there/back if you've got small items that are easily lost in your suitcase.
Ibuprofen is also great for toothache as you may not have access to a dentist while travelling. There's a warning though. It's fine for occasional relief of pain, but don't take it continuously for weeks or more because it can cause stomach ulcers.
The hot water bottle is an AMAZING idea. At the hacienda where I stayed in Ecuador is built traditionally so there's no central heating, obviously. So at night during turndown, the staff would leave a hot water bottle tucked into the bed so when I crawled in my bed was toasty warm. This actually helped in more ways than one, because I ended up having Acute Mountain Sickness and one night felt nauseated and so cold, so I hugged that hot water bottle all night long.
One thing I never leave home: tiger balm, reduce the size and the pain due to mosquito bites, prevent mosquitos to come after you again, great for muscles pain and so many other use ! Also ditch the liquid, there is a good variety of solid soap, shampoo, perfume and even toothpaste ;)
Great tips! I’m travelling to Thailand soon for my first solo trip (well sort of, I’m travelling with an organization but still ‘alone’) I’m very excited, also kinda nervous, but your videos help out a lot :)
Great hacks. Here's 1 more. A Flashlight and/or candles. I always bring a mini flashlight and little citronella candles in case power goes out, also helps with bugs.
Thermal water! Spray on itches, bites, sunburns, it’s amazing seriously it was better than all the bug bite balms and after sunburn creams I used. Plus it’s all purpose can walk around in hot countries and spray yourself with it
I used to use that stuff a lot too but then I read a few different articles saying how toxic it is - dcdd not something I wanted coming in contact with my body. Just do what I do when buying clothes - they have to survive the crush test (I grasp a handful of the garment and hold it tightly in my fist for approx 1min - if after that time it is relatively winkle free then it's passed; either that or if I really love it then I'll buy it knowing I'll never travel with it - I RARELY make exceptions altho I do have a few items that can get away with rocking the wrinkled look; have to say that this is 1 of the few ways where packing for cold beats packing for heat cos winter fabrics have it over summer ones).
I travel fairly often and I use the app Clue to track my pill -- it tells me the new time to take my pill, adjusted to the new time zone! And I'm fairly certain it is a free feature :)
THIS VIDEO IS SO GOOOD! OMG TRAVEL SOAP! OMG THE APP ON BIRTH CONTROL HOW DID I NOT KNOW IT EXISTED! NOW I CAN DELETE MY IPHONE CALENDAR REMINDER IT MESSES UP MY SCHEDULE HAVING IT THERE OMG THANK U FOR THIS!!!!
@Hey Nadine learnt some things about woman accessories i never knew lmao! riding a bit heavy over here on the man travel, adventure tour my luggage is clocking in at 175 lbs.
Your videos have been a lifesaver because of my upcoming travels but what brand is that flat hair!!! it would be in handy because I am only taking a carry-on.
I've been watching your videos since day one I think. Around the same age, think you're a couple years older, you hardly age, like me. Anyway you really come along way, you keep getting better. I don't know how you didn't run out of places to travel yet.
You've given some great hacks here! I've been thinking about taking coconut oil with me actually as its so good for so many things but I'm worried it might turn into liquid in Asia due to the heat, and that could get messy very quickly! If anyone has any experience traveling with coconut oil in hot places please let me know! :)
The Wandering Quinn yes I do! I’ve been traveling in hot climates for a year, but pack in a cold climate. So here’s what you do. When your home (cold place) microwave the oil or just heat it up and then pour it into the liquid small container (like one for shampoo, not a jar). It will harden on the plane, but after being in country for a few hours into melt
Hi Nadine! I am from Costa Rica and I love your videos!! I am curious regarding the diva cup. You are supposed to boil the cup before you used (at least the first time) Do you have any hack for it? Or do you just go without boiling it? Thanks!
Oh my! I would not want to carry all that stuff with me when I travel. I want to be clean, not smelly. Agree with the Ibu thing, though. I keep them in their original blister packs to avoid questions from TSA.
I'm looking for a travel adapter specifically for myflat iron. I have a mini one but I don't think its dual voltage. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.
We Host, on Hipcamp , in ABQ, NM USA 87107, and I travel all alone often, this is very helpful , thanks, Michaela Maestas ( we host many woman, on Airbnb and other sites also ), hugs
another hack: if you dont have a lot of space for liquids, get a powder face cleanser! Many brands sell them and they are pretty affordable, you just add water and then you can clean your face with it, it's really convenient :)
I saw another hacks suggesting use of (crimson or purple) eyeshadow to tint lip balm or powered foundation to make lipstick or blush. I guess it depends if you can WEAR either of those colours as an eyeshadow. Personally I RARELY bother with eyeshadow and never with blush but I thought it was an interesting idea if you're trying to minimise your makeup/liquids (altho I'd recommend just a foundation with sunscreen, lip gloss [MAYBE a stay-on lipstick if you're going somewhere where the culture is a bit more dressy] and concealer. I don't take ANYTHING else and no I'm not some young thing [in fact when I was younger I never took ANY makeup - it's just not that necessary ladies and if you go somewhere hot it'll just sweat off within 1/2hr so you're wasting time and money])
Collegiate I was there last summer. In the more sketchy areas I would definetly say to cover up, but in the central, where there are a lot of tourists it doesn't really matter. And I think tank tops are okay in general.
Better yet take it into bathroom with you and steam it while you shower - most of wrinkles fall out but yeah in really humid areas this'll just be sticky when you put it on 😝
Angie M I personally like to do both. I’ll take out enough for a few days before (just enough for necessary expenses), and then taking out the rest as I go in the country
Amber Eff thanks ! I was curious cause I’ve never gone to an atm while in another country but from what I’m gathering I just have to use it like I would in the US and it’ll convert it for me 😂😂
Don't carry large amounts of cash on your person while exploring the location because if you get mugged you lose all your money. While in Amsterdam I met 2 Americans who were robbed of hundreds of dollars in the street and had to wire their families to send them money. I was also mugged there but I had less than $10 on me. I had taken the advice of the hostel owner to only carry as much money as you think you will spend on the night.
Or you could look into birth control patches or even an implant (just gets imbedded under the skin - usually in fleshy area of upper inner arm); both continual release so no worries about time zones - patch only needs to be changed once a month and the implant lasts 3 to sometimes 6mths. Their are also IUD hormone products that are SAFE and last 2yrs
This is SO helpful! Especially the alarm, its an extra layer of safety that would help me feel more safe while traveling.. really good tips, thanks girl 🙌🏼❤️
Ugh! This is PERFECT! Genuinely one of my favorite vids you've ever done if not just for the birth control bit haha 😊! I have had such issues with that when I am in Europe, converting times and blah blah blah. Love this!
I feel like a lot of stuff your saying is not necessary. If you pack a hair dryer and straighter then your doing the whole traveling thing wrong . Also in regards to travel sized toiletries . They take up so much weight and room as well as being over priced . Solid toiletries are the way to go . You can get lush shampoo bars from lush that act like a shampoo , body wash and face wash all in one for 14 dollars and they are the size of your palm and last months , powdered toothpaste that you just dip your toothbrush in and wet the brush , conditioner bars for your hair , shaving bars . Honestly the list goes on . I reduced my toiletries bag into a tiny bag with products that last months and for a fraction of the price you would pay for bottled liquid toiletries and a entire full face of make up . I would do a bit more research into what’s realistic in the travel world
The hot water bottle reminds me of this lovely Tibetan guesthouse owner in Darjeeling bringing them to the room after sundown every day. It was a saving grace after having switched climates from the tropical south to the sub-zero north! ❤️
I guess body wash and shampoo combos are great for travel as well, u just need one mini bottle works as both shower and shampoo gel, also using lemon for sweat as a natural deodorant is great...
With things like ibeprophen and medications: does anyone (TSA, etc.) care if they're in those little unmarked travel containers (like the one you used in this video)? I always get a little unsure about that.
Rose I always carry them in their original container / packaging especially when going to countries with stringent drug laws like Malaysia. I calculate the number of pills and bring just enough to last me the trip.
Hats and hair ties are life savers for me while traveling! Do you have any tips for hair removal while traveling? I'm going to Ghana for 6 weeks and we are not supposed to drink the water or use it for shaving. Do you have any tips for when traveling to places like this?
Laura Pierson what about waxing before you go or using a hair removal cream? I would suggest laser hair removal because it saves rime for life but sounds like you won’t have time to complete the treatments in fine.
Katharina Feustel It reduces inflammation in the cells that are damaged from the sun, also reduce the temperature slightly, but if your really burning up from sun stroke would be better to take paracetamol as well

You can put tap water in a reusable travel spray bottle and it works to help de-wrinkle clothes!
Got a few lady like hacks yourself? Let me know below!
Hey Nadine you are just awesome
Wash your clothes in the sink or shower with shampoo!
Bring a pareo or sarong, it has so many uses. Privacy curtain when you’re staying in a dorm, blanket, beach / floor mat, makeshift carry-on... And of course, to cover up when visiting places like religious sites.
Hey Nadine yes u should freeze your water when u go to the airport so u don’t have to throw it away😃😃😃😃

Ibuprofen is also great for toothache as you may not have access to a dentist while travelling. There's a warning though. It's fine for occasional relief of pain, but don't take it continuously for weeks or more because it can cause stomach ulcers.

Much better option than NSAIDS
Tiger balm is also really good for healing up blisters in a hurry.

Just discovered your videos. I love them!! You’re a natural on camera. Loved the India ones.
I knew id love this video when i saw the title!
Yes! I love that wrinkle releaser! I use it mostly to "refresh" some clothes so I can get another ise out of them before washing

Mini hair accessories!!! You re my girl!!!!
Lovely video. You got some great tips. PS, Is it bad that I want to get those tiny hair tools just because they're so cute! 🤔😊
You make entertaining videos Nadine :)
Diva Cups are the best if you have some kind of super long bus trip to take!
Yup!
Nope, just nope. You're so lucky it works for you, but trust me, not for everyone.
you can use water with a spray head just as well as de-wrinkler :)

Hi Nadine! I am from Costa Rica and I love your videos!! I am curious regarding the diva cup. You are supposed to boil the cup before you used (at least the first time) Do you have any hack for it? Or do you just go without boiling it? Thanks!
There's Diva cup wash and it's pH balanced. There are also wipes like from Lunette. I'd boil mine at home and bring the wash or wipes when travelling.
Oh my! I would not want to carry all that stuff with me when I travel. I want to be clean, not smelly. Agree with the Ibu thing, though. I keep them in their original blister packs to avoid questions from TSA.

What to do about body hair while traveling?
Ibuprofen should be used sparingly because it can irritate the stomach. If you have to use it, my GP recommended taking antacid tablets as well.
Use heat free hacks to curl and style your hair and don't need to take any straightener or curlers with you.
I'm looking for a travel adapter specifically for myflat iron. I have a mini one but I don't think its dual voltage. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you.

Great tips! My tip for wrinkled clothes is simply to wet them, shake them a bit and hang them to dry! Only works if you got time though! =)
Sanna & Toni tried that in Malaysia, but it was so humid it didn't dry. After 12 hours I just took the blow dryer to dry it 😂

Ugh! This is PERFECT! Genuinely one of my favorite vids you've ever done if not just for the birth control bit haha 😊! I have had such issues with that when I am in Europe, converting times and blah blah blah. Love this!

yasss a new video
also this was a good ass video
Does anyone have a link to that particular little blue safety alarm?
i'd like to know the same thing!!
It’s called robocopp alarm
I guess body wash and shampoo combos are great for travel as well, u just need one mini bottle works as both shower and shampoo gel, also using lemon for sweat as a natural deodorant is great...
haha yess love it
Is there anyone who is a guy and is still watching this video, Even after reading the title??? Cause I am. Just for the fun of it. LOL😉

In the pic, she looks like younger Malificent.
I don't understand why you're not more popular, you're incredible
I’m a boy but I have girl parts so this is good I think... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Lotion shave!! Or an electronic razor. Not sure what they’re called but I got one from Walgreens and it works amazing
TIL Dry Shampoo = Baby Powder. Mind: Blown.
Hey:) One question: How does one use the ibuprofens when being sunburnt?
Katharina Feustel It reduces inflammation in the cells that are damaged from the sun, also reduce the temperature slightly, but if your really burning up from sun stroke would be better to take paracetamol as well
I thought you said why, just 400mg every 4 hours maximum, paracetamol 1000mg every four hours. Drink plenty of water and aftersun
Clare Henry Thanks:) And you’re right; I meant ‚why‘
