im so glad you all are taking such good care of texas! she certainly has earned it. btw not only was she the fasted battleship in 2022, but also the most maneuverable!
Went to the San Jacinto monument today to visit the museum and see a demonstration firing of a Texas independence era cannon. It was sad to look over and not see the Texas in her resting spot. She's been there since before i was born. 😔 On the other hand, I'm SO glad to see her getting the attention she needs and deserves. I'll be doing a dry dock tour tomorrow morning. I can't wait!
Texas was the fastest battleship in 2022. OMG Travis. Burn! That was so funny. Great to see this beast getting the love she deserves. It'd be a tremendous pity if it wasn't being preserved for the future.
I understand the feeling of wonder, of standing on the floor of the drydock and looking up at the underwater hull of your ship for the very first time. I had that experience with both ships I served in. It sounds very like everyone who was involved in preparing your Lady for this move took every precaution, as you said in preparing backups to the backups in true Navy fashion. On a personal note, I've played World of Warships since Closed Beta testing. My "Fleet is quite extensive, but one of my favorites is USS Texas. For me she is a consistently tough competitor, straight shooting and hard hitting. Take care of her Travis, she is a wonder.
The images of Texas underway was incredible to see, and I'm sure all the work everyone has done will inform so many other museum ships; you guys are literally writing the manuals others will look at; once more Texas is trailblazing Battleship development.
What an excellent video! Kyle, it was also good to see you and your contribution to it.

Thx for this Video. Must have been amazing to be abord Texas during the tow. Incidentally when I still played world of warships, Texas was one of my favourites. Just a nice Battle Waggon :)
So I "Watched" this stream on Twitch to get drops in WoWs but I am actually watching it now to give you some props for what you do. Cant wait to visit the Texas when she's ready!
@@BattleshipTexas I know. It's nice to see the different museum ships working together to bring the stories of these ships to us and keep them alive for the future.
❤ Thank you for helping this great, tough, lady shine as the star she is!! Texas deserves all the pampering she can get. BB Texas is part of our history. Bless all who served on her and works on her.
HI TRAVIS AND CAL. GREAT VIDEO!!! HAPPY VETERANS MONTH,, THE GREAT OLD BATTLESHIP TEXAS STILL LOOKS GOOD,,.. CHEERS NO HAPPY SAILING RIGHT NOW , MY SON MAX SAID GET BETTER ...
A fascinating story , a massive effort and organisation by many who love this great old shipto get her into dock .Travis had a unique experience and described the tow with such enthusiasm . Some amazing discoveries which will help preserve steel vessels into the future , bilge water being such a danger for corrosion and the effects of hydrostatic pressure were a big surprise to me . When you consider Texas is not much younger than the Titanic and the only surviving WW1 vintage battleship it's a real tribute to many people who have helped preserve her over the years .
wonder if someone there would be brave enough to climb the foremast and show us forward fire control posts and maybe even the one behind the main superstructure. this would be cool since i am sure no one has seen that area since the last drydock when they cut the mast in half.
Would love to see that! When I was a child visiting the Texas, I tried to imagine what it would be like to go up there. Now I'm an old guy and I'd STILL like to see... Please! Maybe someday?
Hey Kyle the WOW community at least sponsored you a bit years ago. I was one of many (I think?) that email-bombed Wargaming Inc to do their Battleship Texas event which was amazing and I believe delivered about $150,000 in donations.
Good morning Travis you're looking good I hope things are going good in the yard can't wait to hear when our girl goes back in the water I really enjoyed working with you guys a day doesn't go by that I don't talk to somebody about my time with you guys there
Probably to claim the official record for fastest battleship, the ship must be operating under its own power and not being towed. I know, technicalities! Still it is great to see all the work being done to bring the USS Texas up to standard again.
Hope you guys find a way to reattach the 20 mm to the turrets I know they cut they cut the mounts off but I hope you all can well did or figure out a way to bolt it back and be really neat to see
5" is the bore of the barrel and the diameter of the shell. 51 caliber means the barrel is 51 x the bore of the barrel. 51 x 5" = 255" of barrel length. Longer barrels generally shoot straighter and further.
Will she use some of her own power going back home? Will patreons get to be passengers for a price when going back home? Will you set up water pumps for going back home?
Well, Travis, just wait until you tow her out of the drydock to take her to her new home, after you folks get everything put back on her and she looks like she should again. I imagine that will be a trip you tell your grandchildren about!
No she’s not, San Jacinto didn’t get the foot traffic they wanted and needed to help maintain the ship so she’s likely to moved to an area with more tourists. Currently the lead area for her to end up is Galveston itself where she is currently drydocked at Pelican Island just north of Galveston by less than half a mile away
Could you possibly make a video showing us the interior rudder issues ??? Rust can be removed and metals can be coated, but you stated that cost was the issue... Hence, it sounds like a broken gear or two... Being a third generation engineer (retired), a dollar says replacement parts can be designed, milled and installed without removing the rudder... There are dozens of machine shops that would volunteer their time for such a treasure...
A book I have on Battleship Texas printed after her last drydocking mentioned that the rudder mechanism is essentially a fused block of rust. It's way more than replacing a broken gear or two. Also, I'm sure they'd love to know the names of these "dozens" of machine shops willing to work for free.
Nice to hear, that you call her "she". Kapitän Lindemann insisted to the crew to call the Bismarck a "he". Who would have guessed, that a 109 y/o Battleship would be the fastest in 2022😂
I'd love to see them make a second movie of battleship an use all remaining battle ship museum ships in the movie to help raise money for all of them .
When the navy added the blisters to the ship during the 1925-27 modernization, they gave the ship an added 3,000 tons o buoyancy. So the navy took advantage of that and added about that much weight to the ship in armor, equipment, ect. So we need the blisters to give us enough buoyancy to be able to leave the dry dock when the work is finished.
Yeah, I agree and understand with the foundation putting the modern torpedo blisters. In short she needs them for floatation. Texas underwent refits that added the original blisters, but also added extra weight. Without them, she wouldn’t be able to leave the dry dock. Not to mention these new blisters were created to minimize tight places where water can collect and be near impossible to get out. To be fair, think of this battleship as a melting pot of history.
"Texas was the fastest battleship..." words not uttered out loud until 2022
Not only was she the fastest in 2022, she was the heaviest, best armed, and thickest armored battleship under way as well.
Be proud of your ship and it is a bragging right to be the fastest BB in 2022 :)

Going up there requires a harness and other safety equipment. So right this second, the shipyard doesn’t like us climbing that high.
@BattleshipTexas 👍👍 Maybe later when it is safe to do so. My grandfather volunteered at the Texas before he passed.

what an epic undertaking. It's really inspiring the dedication and sheer amount of work going into preserving Texas.
I have the Texas on World of Warships , it’s one of my favorites to play and she’s my favorite museum ship
I got her years ago when WG pledged to donate the entire cost of Texas the ship bundle to USS Texas. Was worth the 80 bucks or so then.

So excited to see all the work to ensure this amazing ship will be around for many decades to come.
The prefab blister pieces remind of the wooden cofferdams they built refloat Nevada, California etc after Pearl. She looks beautiful.
Glad you mention the material that our team put in there the blister tanks

Fantastic Work. Gotta see this Ship one day
Cordial and affectionate greetings, from Colombia South America
Here’s to the continued preservation work on the ship and to that one day I can make the trip from NY to see the ship

How cool must it bee for some people alive today to say they built part of Texas's torpedo blister!

Why did the designers use wood decks on the Texas ? 🤔
It's teak over steel, for better footing - keeps things under it cooler when its hot and warmer when it ain't

Nice work
What was the boiler operating pressure when it was in operation years ago,
I’d like to see a video explaining the caliber of the guns. What does a 5” 51 mean?
5" is the bore of the barrel and the diameter of the shell. 51 caliber means the barrel is 51 x the bore of the barrel.
51 x 5" = 255" of barrel length. Longer barrels generally shoot straighter and further.
Ryan @BB NJ explains it all

Any chance we can see inside the fire control / spotting towers above the super structure?
perhaps in the future but right now the shipyard frowns upon us making that climb
Ship looks tough like Texas🎉
Will she use some of her own power going back home? Will patreons get to be passengers for a price when going back home? Will you set up water pumps for going back home?
1. No
2.
3. Yes
Random question, where did you guys put the mud, silt, and clay y’all dredged?
Moved to the side of the slip so that it was out of the way.
Well, Travis, just wait until you tow her out of the drydock to take her to her new home, after you folks get everything put back on her and she looks like she should again. I imagine that will be a trip you tell your grandchildren about!
I can only imagine his happiness knowing the ship will float safely there, without the need of all the foam and bandaids from the tow in 2022
Is the battleship going back to the San Jacinto monument
Battleship Texas is no longer going back to San Jacinto when She leaves dry dock, she will be going where they bring in more money and tourists
Texas ain't going back to San Jacinto... the water there isn't conducive to the hull, plus the low visitor numbers...
No she’s not, San Jacinto didn’t get the foot traffic they wanted and needed to help maintain the ship so she’s likely to moved to an area with more tourists. Why put the blisters back on?? They were not original to the ship. Strip those thin sheets off put her back the way she was and your good.?
