You guys were speaking about the rounded cabinets that fit in the corners. The reason you see this so much is because people believed that the devil could hide in the corners so they didn’t like rooms with 45 degree angles. If the room had to be built with corners, they would put things in the corners so evil couldn’t hide there.
So when you were in the blue room there was a dish of these round glass pieces that you were wondering what they were. Well I believe they are knife rest for a formal dinner setting. Love your explorations❤❤
This is absolutely fascinating. Olivier Messiaen was one of the great composers of the 20th century. His Turangalîla-Symphonie, a favourite of mine, is considered an innovative masterpiece. I first heard his work as a teenager, when I found a recording of his "Quatuor pour la fin du temps" in a record shop where I live in Canada. That work was composed when Messiaen was a prisoner of war in the German Stalag VIII-A. Messiaen was a pioneer of electronic music, and composed for the first practical electronic instrument, the Ondes Martenot. Much of his inspiration was drawn from birdsong, and his love of nature. The chateau belonged to the family of his first wife, Claire Delbos. Claire was herself a fine composer, and a highly regarded concert violinist. Unfortunately, she developed serious brain damage from a botched operation, suffered from total amnesia, and ultimately died in a mental institution. In your video, there is a large photograph of her on the wall, taken in happier times. Messiaen's orchestral suite "L'Ascension" was composed in the chateau, and a photograph exist showing Claire playing the violin in front of the chateau while Olivier sits on a folding chair and reads. I suspect the photo of the young boy, whose features strongly resemble Olivier's, is of their son Pascal. Notice that there are several tape recorders to be seen, and many reels of recording tape. These machines were still expensive at that time, and it was unusual to own more than one. This is because of Messiaen's fascination with bird songs. He collected recordings of bird songs everywhere he travelled, and the tapes you see in this video were probably some of these.

It’s a particularly lovely castle. I love the shape, the towers, the stonework, the massive fireplace. Incredible treasures everywhere. You know, people will spend multi millions for a new built house in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. If l had that kind of money, I’d buy an ancient home or castle. One of the big problems is that you have to pay for repairs and taxes. What a dream to fix up and live in a medieval castle such as this beauty! Thank you gentleman.
The Photo with an elderly woman that you thought was a Nun is a widow. That is a dress that was worn minimum for one year, but many elderly women used to wear the dress for the rest of their lifes. The dressing was traditionally for her religion, time and country.
I love your videos. You have so much passion and are genuinely interested in all the homes you visit. I do watch with sadness when I see everything just left even photos lying around. Why don't the families cherish those belongings. Loved this castle.
Im beginning to believe not that families don’t cherish their history, but imagine the costs of maintaining these buildings, imagine the differences in income that a modern person has to have to live in a castle compared to their ancestors.. Perhaps it would have been better to sell to a company that could turn it into a museum? Bed and Breakfast? I’d definitely pay to be able to see and explore a place like this!
The Wikipedia entry on Oliver Messiaen has a photo of him and Claire Delbos next to the castle. She is playing the violin, perhaps the same one in the video. Love this and all the Bros of Decay videos.
Hello, thank-you, I love your videos. Claire (L-J D) is died at the end of the 1950 at 52 years in a psychiatric hospital. Claire's violin on the chair. Y.L the second wife of Olivier, is died 2010 at 86 years. Olivier is died in the early 1990. Their only son P-E is died at 83 years.
strange that everything is still present and immaculate... in my country the thieves and looters should have made everything disappear and the vandals would have destroyed the rest and written graffiti everywhere 😅
A great exploration, guys! Finally, another wonderful interesting castle with mysteries to unveil! I love the antiques, they should all be in a museum! The family pictures, the elegance of the interior and of the old items are always the soul of the castles! Thank you for taking me on this nice journey into the past!
Hey hey, dear Lesley, that is a really fascinating looking castle. I am already very excited to see and hear more about that abandoned location. Peace, kindest blessings and see ya in your lifestream this evening.
This is an amazing video! I hope one day this beautiful little castle will have a new owner that loves this place just as much as the previous owners did.
I have a funny feeling about ghosts, spirits and poltergeists coming to visit every night or so giving new owners bad dreams and some other funny things
I was surprised at how small this castle is. I imagine it was elaborately designed with beautiful furniture and the fireplaces open with grand fires roaring. Thank you for this explore!!
The camera work is done very well and the commentary is perfect. I love how you document on video the history and take we viewers with you in the moment. I would never get to experience wonderful places like this without you. Thank you ❤
Wow what it must have been like back then with fires in the fireplaces and the smell of stew cooking in the pot over the fire! The castle being filled after dinner with the sound of music and children dancing around the room before bed! The evening begins to quiet and the adults sip a glass of wine as they dance to the softness of the music filling the castle 🏰
I love seeing these beautiful castles, even in decay they continue to be beautiful…The way they narrate what they see is very complete and fun, greetings Lesley and Danny😊
What an amazing video you did here. It's incredible how they made these structures back that long ago, to be still standing to this day! Thank you for exploring and sharing your time here. It gives us a glimpse of what we'll never, ever, see for ourselves. I've learned so much about Europe an their way of life, how they live, just by watching your videos. Thank you so much for educating the world into (our) non-experience of it all.
As I’m watching this video, it occurs to me how much your content could be enriched if you both were to take a few college courses in European history, and even American history for when you’re able to return there. I absolutely adore the passion you have for what you do, also the care and respect for the locations you visit, but the boldfaced ignorance of Lesley’s commentary is sometimes just jarring- just imagine how much more you and your subscribers would love what you do if you were walking through these magnificent buildings and you knew exactly what you’re looking at and were able to educate others about the history around you. I understand it would be time consuming, but man you would put your channel on another level if you did it. Love y’all!
Thank you Lesley and Danny for taking us along with you to this lovely, ancient castle. It was in amazingly good condition, especially considering its age. The artifacts were extraordinary. Thank you for a wonderful explore. I especially enjoyed the violin music in the background. It was very appropriate considering the old, broken violin that you found. Wonderful views from the windows as well as the close-ups of the exterior, showing building details. Keep up the good work guys!!
Great work finding another amazing place to explore and inviting us to come along with you. You go to places that I will never get to go. I’m not able to drive anymore due to a progressive brain disease that has really limited my abilities to walk , to do even simple things that once were so easy for me to do. My memory seems to be getting worse especially after my last fall about 3 weeks ago when I fell backwards hitting my head on the corner of the cabinet I fell on. I’m on 2 blood thinners to try and keep me from having more strokes so I was bleeding so bad that I soaked my hair and gown in blood. When the ambulance EMTs rolled me in the nurse put me in a room right away. The fastest I’ve ever been seen in the ER! My neurologist has warned me that I have too many lesions in my brain to count and I was afraid I was going to die. They tell me to be careful and I let them know I’m not trying to fall but I get so dizzy when I turn around that I can’t always catch myself so I’m spending more time in the wheelchair. I get so bored but it really helps me to watch episodes of you and Danny exploring these places that I’d love to go to but can’t. Thank you for making it fun and entertaining. I love it when Lesley dresses up in the period attire and tells the history of each place and gives us an idea of what it was like living in that time frame. I’m living day to day and thanking God for each new day that I wake up again. I just turned 67 and used to be so active. I had to retire early and I’d much rather be healthy and still working. I’m learning to do what I can do and accept help with the things that used to be so easy for me to do. Sorry to be so long with my note but I wanted you both to see how important it is for you to keep exploring these beautiful places all over the world. I appreciate your work so much! Thank you❣️
That stone work on the castle is absolutely beautiful!! Wow!! Haven't even started watching the video and i had to comment, good job on finding this one guys!!
The glass weights are Crystal knife rests for on the dinner table so you don't get the linens dirty when you lay your knife down while eating! It's cool to see a whole set!

I enjoy watching and always look forward to your amazing and fun discoveries and explorations. Interesting content!! Keep up the good work guys!!! Regards from Nairobi, Kenya in Africa.

Hey guys, on the stereo vs radio you were incorrect. Stereo means it has more than one speaker. Two speakers give you two signals thus better sound. (Poor explaination, I know)
yes, first radio receivers were with one speaker, monophonic. late the music was recorded with two microphones, an stereophonic record and the radio receivers with an stereo amplifier and two speakers was able to reproduce the stereo signal recording. R and L stereophonic signal.
I again lose touch with the live feed. 😮 Anyhow this is in amazing undamaged condition (looking at the start of visit). The huge trees closing in saying it sat close to im guessing 20 years since property caretaker was on site. The coal on the floor in the wine room was to be used in the small kitchen for the cook stove. The wood in the first room was only to begin the fire then the Coal was placed on top and the heat continues through the entire day allowing both to cook and keep the basement warm. The large red french book was titled (my french understanding) "The Book of Esther" its an excerpt from the Holy Bible old testament. She was a Queen in the middle East, and the holiday of Purim is in memory of her time and actions. The "round discs" were not "tapes" but actually 8mm Film. Very rare method of making your own family movie. Someone has removed the projector and screen otherwise you can play them and see the people as they walked around in life. The black plastic movie camera seen after was "16mm" movie, and i believe is still somewhat available today but expensive. It was a kind of cassette inside if I remember. I used to have one when I was young but gave it away because I couldn't afford the film cartridges. The flash belonged to a 35mm photography camera which also has been removed and would date to 1964 65 as I have two just like it, one from Germany and the other from Japan. The player seen on the desk is actually a voice tape recorder and used back in the day for sending "Live letters"; the sender would tell their story and introduce the children and guests and possibly sing and tell jokes. Send in the post to the relative to listen again and again and pretend they're together.
Reel to reel was before 8 track tapes and then cassette tapes. I perfer 8 track tapes for various reasons because they don't get stuck inside the machines that play them as often as cassette tapes do. You can also change to another track (8 tracks to choose from) and not just two sides of a cassette. The 8 track takes up more room than a cassette, but still loved them better!
I believe those glass looking weights are knife rests. You laid your knife against it when setting a table so after using it it wouldn't stain the tablecloth. Love your videos. Thanks
Those crystal pieces that look like weights are silverware rests, I believe. Instead of putting dirty silverware on the edge of the plate or on the tablecloth, you rest them on the crystal so you can use them for the rest of the meal.
It hurts to not see the art and the rest of that book. That'd be the only reason I'd do this, to find hints to the real history. When it's a map book,it really hurts, lol I'm grateful to see these videos though!
On a side note - decades ago Messien's "Turangalilla Symphony" was due to be played for the first time at the Sydney Opera house. The work calls for 7 players of an electronic instrument called the "Ondes Martenot." As no one in Australia could be found to play this instrument 7 players were lined up from Japan to play the 7 instruments. The day before a careless electrician led to the electricity supply to be cut off in the whole building and there was not time enough to restore the supply before the performance. Performance had to be cancelled. Don't know if the players had to be paid anyway!
Very fascinating indeed! Lots of old stuff! Music and dancing lifestyle. Love the old photo's and furniture too! You both made the experience very enjoyable. Thank you for sharing such a unique castle.

Why Does Coal Shine? The macerals (organic particles) of lignite are composed of huminite, which is earthy in appearance. As the coal matures to sub-bituminous coal, huminite begins to be replaced by vitreous (shiny) vitrinite.
He is a famous composer in surprises that those videos and pictures of his life aren’t in a museum. I wish the house was sold to be cherished for many more years.
The fireplace area is a retrofit of an old large area once enjoyed many walls and rooms installed Watched through ancient times Respect your anthology Nice work keep it up
Incredible thank you for taking us. It is weird being in someone else's home when their possessions are still there. Why are their possessions still there, this woman died 8 years ago, shouldn't the gov't come and take the time and donate/sell them if there is no next of kin. Or is there legal problems not yet resolved? Items like that at least should be kept in storage in a safe place, those things have value the books, records, furniture, clothes etc.
Wow, what a beautiful castle. Thank you so much for sharing this gorgeous place with us. Sad that it has no one to love it and live in it to enjoy this beauty ♥️🇨🇦
Leslie and Danny, thanks to you two for giving your viewers insight in all the history of time gone by. I enjoy your videos so much, you’re so respectful of each piece you go into. This video is spectacular, I especially enjoyed seeing the thimble collection. Some of the bedrooms were lovely, I loved seeing the wood beds. You have such a lovely voice, your accent ❤
The tape recorder is an old, " reel-to-reel" recorder. The secret door, toilet is called a garde-robe, quite common in old castles. Great video, as usual. Thanks,
Leslie: I just watched this 700 year old abandoned castle and you asked 44.36 what the crystal things that looked like dumbells were. They are knife rests, they are placed by the plate on the table and when you use the knife instead of putting it on the plate you put the blade on this knife rest. Also at 43.32 the books that you show are beautiful and some are very small. I don't know about Europe but in America the antique dealers would love to have them. We don't care what language they are in because people that build large homes with big book cases like to have books with beautiful leather abindings, that will show up in the bookcase. They don't care what the book says. That kind of book would be easy to sell especially in the South. Maybe someone could get the law changed so that the contents of the castle could be sold before it is all destroyed by the enviroment, and the money divided among the owners. I don't think we have any laws in the US about abandoned property. I'll be watching again tomorrow. Thanks for all you do. Bob Law

59: 17 Coal burns longer & hotter than wood. So, one serving of coal lasts about 8 to 9 hours. My grandpa in Indiana lived in a two story farm house with a large limestone foundation & basement. A large coal furnace in the middle of the basement supplied heat too the entire house for several hours. Though he would never add coal to the furnace after supper, so we awoke on the 2nd floor freezing each morning. Talk about a chineese fire drill each morning. I miss my grand parents & their beautiful home. I don't miss waking up upstairs that cold. Oh my.
hy Lesley, the two tape recorders, what you called them , where actually Players, where you play back these recorded film bands you saw. The German word for them are "Tonbandgerat": The film Camera must have been missing. The small crystal thingies that looked like lil weight lifting things, dumbbells, are Knife rests. They are used when you have dinner to rest your knife on, as not to soil the table linens.

Radio vs stereo, refer to different concepts. The device is both a radio and a stereo. Stereo simply means there are two separate audio channels that give a sense of direction in the sound. The opposite of stereo is mono (one channel). The football game table is called a foosball table in the US.
Hi have been watching many of your videos of abandoned castles....really tragic to see them decaying and so much valuable decor and furniture just being destroyed.....I have a question! Have you been in contact with any owners before entering properties? Or do you just walk in? It's unbelievable that these castles don't get looted on their property when anyone can get in? Is there no way for you to get hold of any owner of these abandoned castles and thus find out more!? That would be interesting! Maybe one of the castles could get a new owner that way!? I guess not all of these castles are even listed for sale so how is anyone going to save one of them when no one knows they exist? You should contact an owner/responsible person and ask for permission to show the castle to the public, so maybe some castle will be lucky enough to get a new owner who can maintain and renovate! Seems completely crazy to do nothing more than just film.....the castles need to be shown if they are to get a new owner and be saved!! Please think about it👍👍🙂
Seriously? These clowns, and all similar clowns on RUclips are obviously breaking the law by trespassing on private property. No way RUclips should allow these videos to be posted.
Hey guys, the game table we had lots of them in USA, they are called "Foosball tables". They have hard round balls that are batted back and forth between opponents until someone knocks the ball into the opponents side. I watched Felix the Cat on T.V. as a very young child here in America. He was my favorite! 55:57
I got to meet Olivier Messiaen when he came to my conservatory in the late 70s to give composition seminars. He was a unique man, he could speak fluent English but refused and spoke only French. His wife translated for him.

The Photo with an elderly woman that you thought was a Nun is a widow. That is a dress that was worn minimum for one year, but many elderly women used to wear the dress for the rest of their lifes. The dressing was traditionally for her religion, time and country.
👍👍
😂 and here I thought all Europeans were cultured
In America, they were referred to as “widow’s weeds” - in the south anyway.
I love your videos. You have so much passion and are genuinely interested in all the homes you visit. I do watch with sadness when I see everything just left even photos lying around. Why don't the families cherish those belongings. Loved this castle.
Hello Carol how's the weather over there
Im beginning to believe not that families don’t cherish their history, but imagine the costs of maintaining these buildings, imagine the differences in income that a modern person has to have to live in a castle compared to their ancestors..

The way you describe it, it’s rather have nights like that instead of going on social media 😊

You learned "so much" about Europe by watching videos made by uncultured and clueless people?
How does that work?
Everytime I watch a episode, I like to imagine what it looked like in its prime etc... great job!❤
Hello Lisa how's the weather over there

Love y’all!
This looks fascinating, love old castles and can't wait to see it.

Thank you❣️

Hello barb
Hey guys, on the stereo vs radio you were incorrect. Stereo means it has more than one speaker. Two speakers give you two signals thus better sound. (Poor explaination, I know)
Of course you're right, and these two are exceedingly ignorant.
I mean, each time I think they can't get more clueless, they manage to prove me wrong!
That portable radio/cassette player is called a Boom-box or Ghetto Blaster! In the USA that is.
yes, first radio receivers were with one speaker, monophonic. late the music was recorded with two microphones, an stereophonic record and the radio receivers with an stereo amplifier and two speakers was able to reproduce the stereo signal recording. R and L stereophonic signal.
I again lose touch with the live feed. 😮
Anyhow this is in amazing undamaged condition (looking at the start of visit).
The large red french book was titled
(my french understanding)
"The Book of Esther"
its an excerpt from the Holy Bible old testament.
The player seen on the desk is actually a voice tape recorder and used back in the day for sending
"Live letters"; the sender would tell their story and introduce the children and guests and possibly sing and tell jokes.
Thanks
What an absolutely amazing exploration! Thank you gentlemen for your marvelous work!❤❤❤
Those crystal pieces that look like weights are silverware rests, I believe. Instead of putting dirty silverware on the edge of the plate or on the tablecloth, you rest them on the crystal so you can use them for the rest of the meal.
👍👍

On a side note - decades ago Messien's "Turangalilla Symphony" was due to be played for the first time at the Sydney Opera house. The work calls for 7 players of an electronic instrument called the "Ondes Martenot." As no one in Australia could be found to play this instrument 7 players were lined up from Japan to play the 7 instruments. The day before a careless electrician led to the electricity supply to be cut off in the whole building and there was not time enough to restore the supply before the performance. Performance had to be cancelled. Don't know if the players had to be paid anyway!

Why Does Coal Shine?
The macerals (organic particles) of lignite are composed of huminite, which is earthy in appearance. As the coal matures to sub-bituminous coal, huminite begins to be replaced by vitreous (shiny) vitrinite.
I looked it up for the explanation but found it too wordy to express in the comments, so thanks for taking the time to do that.

Incredible thank you for taking us. It is weird being in someone else's home when their possessions are still there. Why are their possessions still there, this woman died 8 years ago, shouldn't the gov't come and take the time and donate/sell them if there is no next of kin. Otherwise, these records must be stored outside this room, to escape the heat generated by it's massive fireplace.

Oh my.

Radio vs stereo, refer to different concepts. The device is both a radio and a stereo. Stereo simply means there are two separate audio channels that give a sense of direction in the sound. The opposite of stereo is mono (one channel).

@@frontenac5083 That's what I suspected! Seems a bit strange that they only enter buildings without owners! Wonder what they would think of it.....?
Hey guys, the game table we had lots of them in USA, they are called "Foosball tables".
