Oh my goodness! Well I'm a complete fan anyway but these 1950s recording of him put you on the edge of your seat. You know you're listening to a masterpiece of sound - a legend in action. The control, the power, the passion! Youth is universally envied for good reason.
Tenore e attore allo stesso tempo.Mio amato Corelli
Instead of tormenting the poor guy, I would rather be very, very gentle with him and caress these gorgeous curls of his :-)))) He truly was a stunner particularly in that recording, with his hair undone and his three-day beard!
I’m amazed at Corelli’s riveting performance. He seems truly crazed! Passion! And his singing is strong and emotional even when he is on his knees. What a gift he was. Thank you for the post! I have to go recover now....
Corelli strepitoso.
What's ridiculous about Corelli here is that---obviously---no woman, let alone Carmen, would have said no to his José...... Carreras, sure. Corelli? no way....
John Blasiak :: I think his performance w / Price is the best the two of them have ever done --- vocally ... but Belen has a very nicely-balanced, rich mezzo-soprano sound ... better than I thought it would be as I've never seen this film before ... but, honestly man, who can sing this role as Price ? Her "acting", on stage in other roles, was unfortunate ; fortunately, she & Corelli acted w / their voices, especially Price as she wouldn't have pulled off _Carmen_ histrionically ... in my opinion. I sure Corelli must have been a vocal challenge for her to interpret this role vocally if not actually on stage & she was vocally magnificent !
I would have avoided the grotesque close shots! Especially with play-back! But there is no sexiest Don José possible (and vocally magnificent!). And the sudden unveiling of his chest at 09:25-09:28 is a mastepiece of male erotica!!! Amparan is just perfunctory with a bad tendency to overuse chest voice and off-tune notes!
Yes, this Jose is really handsome and virile but what people don't realize is that in the time of this opera women needed a male's financial foundation to support them. It is written in our DNA. These days we can bloody support ourselves. That may be why Carmen would reject Jose and run to the successful bull fighter.
I can't believe I wrote this. Maybe someone wrote it in response to what I had written. In our DNA? On what planet? She was already a successful smuggler. Remember, Jose didn't do so well at smuggling. Carmen would not have wanted to be with a failure. "Just a corporal is just fine for me." The higher ranking officers were not of interest to Carmen. But when Jose was seen as a failure th sax
I love these discussions even if you don't agree with me. I still think Don Jose was a loser in Carmen's eyes. She, as did all women in the past, needed a strong man for their support. Notwithstanding that Franco Corelli was truly appealing. Not all who portray Jose were that attractive.
Shirley Rombough :: I don't think _Carmen_ needs any man to support her --- she takes care of herself --- she's working two jobs ; loves her freedom which would be jeopardized if some man controlled the money. In my humble opinion, _Carmen_ thinks about sex as a lot of men do ... not content, for long, w / one woman ... she isn't content w / one man ... when she's ready to move on ... she moves on ( the bull-fighter knows about this aspect of her character ... he knows what he's in for & still, being a man, wants to experience ... she doesn't need Escamillo's fame / fortune ... he just showed up for a future reference when she dumped _Don Jose_ ...she doesn't need any man's support ... they're only good for one thing ... _Don Jose_ isn't a loser in her eyes ; she said to herself :: "He's just a corporal" ... & good enough for her ( she's not a fortune-hunter ) ... where _Jose_ made his mistake was becoming too possessive ...
Is it really so hard to understand why Carmen would not give in to Don Jose at this point? He lost his military commission and was not a good smuggler, whereas Escamillo was a successful bull fighter. No matter how beautiful Jose/Corelli was.
Divino!!!
Corelli is about 35 here. Terrific

Instead of tormenting the poor guy, I would rather be very, very gentle with him and caress these gorgeous curls of his :-)))) He truly was a stunner particularly in that recording, with his hair undone and his three-day beard!
Mamma mia... che emozione!!!!
I’m amazed at Corelli’s riveting performance. He seems truly crazed! Passion! And his singing is strong and emotional even when he is on his knees. What a gift he was. Thank you for the post! I have to go recover now....
Watch Del Monaco if you want crazy 😜
You can't "recover" after hearing Corelli in this role.
@@cliffgaither yes! Thank you for the smile...I never did recover!
Una interpretazione eccelsa , una voce divina , grande Corelli, bravissima Belen
The best actor, singer, when there is no man like that Opera will die evantualy!
Honey, when she ripped his shirt open, my heart skipped a beat!
divino Corelli !
Magnificent ,Maestro Franco Corelli .

Belen surely is a very "authentic" Carmen, a skilled actress and wonderful singer.
She most certainly was the best and most authenit Carmen I have ever seen!
Such a good actor apart from incomparable singing...
coppia magnifica
Brilliant 👏
Adorable Belén.... su presencia era electrizante....
Gracias....
How loud must it be to have him sing 6 inches away from you?
What's ridiculous about Corelli here is that---obviously---no woman, let alone Carmen,

Carreras, sure. Corelli? no way....
Oh dang. You murdered Carreras that hard
The size of his larynx tells a story as Pavarotti said vocal cords of steel

Yes!!!
His recording with Price and Merrill is much better and in French

I think this is an RAI telecast sung in Italian.
plyas great crazed men at the end of hi rope

When Jose failed as a smuggler that was the end of her desire for the hapless Don Jose.

I wouldn't care - The man is soooo cute and full of passion for Carmen. What more could she possibly want??? Money and status is not everything!
però preferisco la versione francese!
No no no, only Italian version!!! Don’t compare !!!
