We were told we needed to accept mass immigration from the 3rd world, starting in the late 60s. There were a variety of lies put forward - we were racists, we were colonizers, we needed to grow the population, the boomers retiring, no-one having kids, people are all the same, etc. The truth is that diversity is never a strength. The truth is that Canada was much better when it was mostly European. The truth is that the mass importation of 3rd worlders is a horrible idea. What benefit could ever come from it? The truth is that there has NEVER been a successful multicultural country EVER, except maybe Singapore which is also a police state. The truth is that there is strength in unity. How to change things - mass deportation, mass remigration, strip citizenship from those who obtained it fraudulently, the protection of Canadian identity enshrined in law, reduce all immigration to a trickle. Or we could go with civil war or Balkanization.
Ty for covering this issue. Canada has the resources to welcome people & treat them properly when they get here. They add value to our lives as Canadians but more importantly everyone deserves a good life. Let's be the country everyone thinks we are. Stopping giving the wealthiest, most privileged people a pass on their obscene desire to be ridiculously rich at all costs. They want us to blame each other, and immigrants, migrants etc Stop playing their stupid harmful game & get back in touch with your humanity.
Municipalities have been struggling to try to meet the needs of refugees since before Covid; for years here in Toronto, people are turned away from shelters every night. There’s a shortage of affordable housing, causing more and more people to become unhoused every day. The causes are complex, and while solutions are being developed, these solutions will take years. Years. These problems have not been caused by migrants or newcomers, but there is a housing crisis that needs to be addressed first. I really do want Canada to be able to help more people, to welcome refugees and newcomers, but we need to be able to be in a situation where they have a safe place to stay. I’ve seen bodies removed from parks in winter - the danger is real.
"Temporary" workers and international students deserve fair treatment, but they're not entitled to residency. This "fact check" ignores the simple math and reality that there aren't enough resources in Canada for everyone right now.
I agree; here in Toronto, we need to be able to catch our breath. When refugees arrive and there isn’t anywhere for them to stay either temporarily or long-term because our emergency shelters are already full, people’s lives are at risk.
Some people are producers and some people are consumers. If the 3rd world people couldn't help their own countries, why would they be able to help our country?
@@contribution741because they didn't steal an entire continent and also had to deal with European colonial leeches that drank their wealth for three centuries.
With all due respect, Syed, being granted permanent residency is not an entitlement for temporary visa holders. The Government of Canada has clear conditions for temporary residents based on their visa type. If you are not a citizen, influencing immigration policies and decisions should not fall within your scope. Your advocacy appears self-serving and exploitative, prioritizing interests of temporary residents over the broader societal impact. As a local foodbank volunteer, I regularly witness the strain mass immigration places on our most vulnerable citizens, including people with disabilities, sponsored refugees, and low-income citizens. Limited resources at the foodbank are increasingly stretched thin due to the influx of international students-many of whom are expected to be financially self-sufficient as a condition of their visa and often come from well-resourced backgrounds. This reality highlights the need for a balanced and fair approach to immigration policy that prioritizes the well-being of those already struggling within Canada.
Two books that discuss how canada uses immigration and temporary workers to continue settler-colonialism along racist and harmful lines are Border and Rule by Harsha Walia and Policing Black Lives by Robyn Maynard. Reading those two books changed how I looked at our nation, and convinced me that "restricting immigration" will harm thousands and won't improve our quality of life. It is frightening to watch our governments capitulate to right wing fascism, but knowing that this is part of a long-term trend in Canada helps to fight it.
