Imagine if they would have really learned at Levi's and taken the same pride by holding up the Cone Denim, White Oak Mill in Greensboro... than it would at least become less a profoundly marketing story.
Yep, My cone mills jeans are just as good if not better than most of my Japanese jeans...
日本製ジーンズなんて大した事ないぜ?(笑)
Legit, couldn't agree more.
@@colmcgillveray1010 sounds good, where to get them?
@@slimnics Come Mills shut their selvedge denim factories but it is now made by a different company..Vintage or deadstock is your best bet.
I started wearing Levi's shrink-to-fit 501s in the late 1960s and have a large collection. Back then all jeans came dark blue and they faded as you used them. That produced an authentic beautiful fade. Later on wearing faded jeans became popular but people didn't have the patience so Levi's started pre-fading jeans. I can't relate to pre-faded jeans, especially those with unrealistic wear lines. They look fake and are easily detectable at a glance. What is wrong with a natural fade?
And the polution they do with the pre-faded jeans
Only Levi's factory in Japan do that type of things... other Japanese denim companies are follow the traditions left by the Maker... symbolic huh, Doc?
Old geezer, I FEEL YOU. Its the same with faded T-shirts. I usually go to the thrift store and look through endless rows to find a faded T-shirt that was probably won a million times. Now you can go to the store and get one that looks like that. Even the rips on jeans and shirts, theres something good about knowing how the rips came about on your cloths. Now you can just get Distressed cloths off the rack.
@@NurulShahrilMdIsa you can buy raw denim levi's too. Buy more of them and they'll make more. If some people like pre faded then that's up to them. Nothing wrong with it. Thinking so is just snobbery.
The way this video was put together…cinematography is well done!
i was thinking the same thing , the cinematography took me a little away from the main subject but in a good way
...over done is more like it..and taking perfectly good denim and faking its age is a somewhat ugly 21st century lie, like so many others popular today;..producing 'relic' guitars for example,...so many humans with the loss of integrity and a natural life.
the Levis company was completely unaware of the resurgence of the old jeans the Japanese have beat the USA at their own game. They also bought all the old machines That Levis used to use to make old indigo jeans. I love the old fabric and the color still to this day I’m 77 but I still wear and love old jeans
Yeah but if you're Levi's why would you be? For decades all they heard was "why are your jeans so stiff?
Why can't you make a pair that doesn't shrink? Why can't you make jeans that feel like they are already broken in?" So they say, OK...here you go to all those things. Then the next thing you know suddenly all these dork denim heads start saying "we want the old jeans that shrink and are stiff!". Levi's is probably like WTF? Of course they aren't going to be "leading the way" in that regard.
The "buying of the old machines" is a myth as well. They had all their own looms in Japan. They didn't buy any from America.
Personally I think it's a good thing Levi's is getting in on the trend. If that spread it to more people and more people choose to buy MIJ jeans then that means fewer people are buying sweatshop Levi's and other brands. It means there is a much better chance fewer people are being exploited. I'm sure the denim industry in Japan isn't perfect but I guarantee it's more ethical than made in china or other sweatshop countries.
Denim heads should COMMEND Levi's for following this trend. Not get on a snobby high horse. It's a GOOD thing. Personally I'll stick with the MIJ brands just because I like the ethos, but I think it's great Levis is doing this. I've had a couple of pairs of MIJ Levis in the past and they were great.
@@doublestrokeroll there has been criticism from small japanese-made brands that behemoths like levi's actually suck up a huge amount of the mill volume to suffocate competition. brands that are actually doing interesting and creative things with denim. also most levi's "japanese made" items only means the fabric is made in japan, not that the garments are sewn there. they are still sewn in sweatshops
@@lt3880 I'm sure that's true internationally but I doubt it applies to the mills in Japan who cater to the MIJ brands. Levis volume in raw japanese denim is not going to be that high. I was just in Japan recently and all the Japanese brands were very easy to find.
Depends. Some are like that but others are fully made there. I've had two pairs of Levis that were actually made in Japan. They do it every possible way. There's Levis with Japanese denim, made in Japan. Levis with non Japanese denim, that are made in Japan. And as you said, Japanese denim not made in Japan. Just need to read the labels carefully and do a little research on the particular pair.
Levis is entering the high end raw Japanese denim game but mostly for them it's still about volume. They'll manufacture anything and everything to meet quotas. For example, I have 2 pairs of made in China 501's bought at the exact same time. One pair is selvedge and the other isn't. Same price.
If the Chinese "modern" factory isn't going to be able to meet production then they'll simply find any factory that can help them make their quota. They go to some smaller factory in China that still has old shuttle looms and that factory picks up the slack. And there you go...a pair of Levis selvedge. I bet at some point, if not already, Levis will start selling those types of jeans for more because they now know people will pay more just because it's selvedge....lol.
I just picked up a second pair of Japanese selvedge denim (dark blue) 511s yesterday. Bought them at the Levi’s store at Fashion Square Mall, Scottsdale, Arizona. Love that the rear center belt loop has white cotton showing. The black leather label is one of my favorite things about these jeans.
Japanese denim. And Citroen SM. Love ❤️ them both.
beautiful piece
i have two pairs of levis made in japan , super nice fabric
HAVING SOLD LEVI DENIM IN MY OWN CLOTHING STORE SEVERAL YEARS AGO I ENJOYED LEARNING ABOUT THE HISTORY OF JEAN CRAFTSMANSHIP. THIS VIDEO HOWEVER WAS DISAPPOINTING TO ME BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO BE MORE ABOUT THE AUTHORS CAR AND HIM VISUALLY. IT SHOULD BE MORE ABOUT THE ACTUAL JEAN MAKING PROCESS
I just received that jeans 2 days ago...it is wowwww
Cool video ✌
Lovely video and it is my favorite brand in jeans. costly but long-lasting.
Thanks for video❤️🔥😉💐✝️
Great ...
This is only evidence further solidifying the rock solid stance that Levi's.... no longer cares about denim. They have abandoned the romance of a pair of unfaded raw denim and abandoned the unwritten stories that come with fading them. The removal of the need for the wearer to finish the story started by a pair of raw denim jeans is the removal of the very thing that keeps it alive. Levi's, now, is a robot. A robot that has all the knowledge in the world of every process however unsustainably practiced to create a pair of denim jeans, knowledge of every cotton field every ounce of indigo every loom, shuttle or projectile, every stitch, cut, hem, everything. But this robot has never put on a pair of jeans and if placed in a room, and asked to distinguish between denim and a banana, could not.
Cheers Levi's. Here's to billions more.
oh geezus, get of your high horse you snob. Levis makes raw denim MIJ jeans too so what are you talking about? Buy those and they'll make more.
you want things to change? Then get off that high horse of yours and educate ALLLLL those millions of people in the world (the west mostly) who buy all the denim you don't like. Levi's simply gave people what they wanted when people whined back in the 70's and 80's about their jeans being to stiff and shrinking when they were new. And Americans are to blame for allowing companies like Levis to shift production to sweatshop countries.
Into jeans or not this was beautifully shot.
I love jeans ❤️
Absolutely love Made & Crafted a better quality product then the standard red tab line but I do wish it was fully crafted and made in Japan. Farm to finish 日本.
It is fully Japanese
@@CyrusDM It’s not. Some pieces made from Pakistan, China or Turkey. However it’s my favorite Levi’s and I prefer to buy the piece that made in japan.
@@amenomurakumo9428 yeah but they say where it's made on the label. So if you want completely MIJ levis you can get them. Farm to to finish is another story. The vast majority of the MIJ companies don't use Japanese grown cotton either, so it's not going to be perfect.
There are Japan Made and Japan Fabric it's on the round red tag
My Favourit ❤️
Very nice!!
I was completely unaware that Levi’s collaborated with a Japanese company to create a clothing line. I would sure like to purchase some of these. I don’t know where I would get them from or where to even start to locate them.
If you are in eu spectrum store has them on black friday sale
as much as i like and wear levi's 501 and their current quality lines coming from japan, I can't understand the link with the Citroën SM which is a french car maker (model is from the 70's). Is it because the fabric is the Serge de Nîmes. An old southern french city ?
Levis is nothing compared to Japanese denim . But good colab
Levi's Made in Japan denim IS Japanese denim. They're getting their denim from the same factories that make it for the MIJ brands. The vast majority of the MIJ brands are buying it from the handful of denim factories in the country. The vast majority of MIJ brands (probably all) do not have their own factories for the bolts of denim. It's made FOR them. OEM. Just like every other industry.
Where can I buy some Levi's made in 🗾
Why can’t Levi’s just make their stuff in the U.S again???
Because they no longer have the old loom machines that Japanese factory has, that can make the tasteful Selvidge denim like the vintage Levis.
And also, American labour cost is higher than Japan, and the old loom machine's productivity is way lower than the modern loom machines, so their Jeans price will becomes too high compared to the latest American made Levis jeans. Except a few Denim enthusiasts, most of customers won't buy them.
A right wing lead war on American labor is to blame, really.
@@TheCrusher72 The left wants to undercut American labor just as much as the right. The unending stream of illegals and visa workers the left loves to champion is doing nothing to help American labor.
Levis 501 mein liebi jeans!
It's disappointing that you've discontinued the Made and Crafted line!
Big and tall for this!! We are people too!!
If I’m not mistaken, the fabric of the Levi’s Made and Crafted line is from Japan, but the cutting, sewing, and other assembly is done in China.
it depends, if LMC is marked with a Japan flag indicating Japan made, then it is purely from Japan. Levi's is a global supply chain company, factories are all around the world, China is only part of it. So your jeans could come from any countries in the world.
if it's made in japan , that means made in japan entirely, if it is japan fabric, then it manufactured in other places
@@thomaswang225 agree
I’ve seen LMC made in China , Pakistan, Turkey etc. The collections that made in Japan are more expensive( not much). So check before buying if you prefer made in japan.
so afaik there's MoJ (made of japan) and MiJ (made in japan)
MoJ's fabrics are from japan, but the rest of production is from other countries. meanwhile, the MiJ is entirely made in japan from fabric and production. cmiiw.
btw i have 2 LMC MiJ.
What this video really needed was more shots of W. David Marx - staring into the distance, walking aimlessly and, especially, writing in his notebook. There was far too much jeans content...
best jeans ever
The guy in the video should have been driving a classic Japanese car like a 70s Toyota Corolla GT or a Datsun Z instead of a Citroen lol
I bought limited edition japan made Levi's years ago, its felt more like an usual japan trouser then a levis.
Is the car really a CITROEN SM?? 😃
Is he wear new balace 997? It's pretty compatible with jeans.
Where can I buy a pair? Or two?

505 for ever
only available with 32 and up inseam
If you liked this you should read W David Marx's book Ametora....Seriously.
LEVI'S EST AMERICAIN MAIS LE TISSUS *DENIM* QU'IL A UTILISE POUR FAIRE SA RICHESSE EST FRANCAIS, COCORICO !!!
LEVI'S IS AMERICAN BUT THE *DENIM* FABRIC THAT HE USED TO MAKE HIS WEALTH IS FRENCH, COCORICO!!!
Whack. Why would I pay for pre-faded/pre-distressed denim. That defeats the purpose of spending the extra money to get Japanese raw selvedge denim that fades over time depending on the user. No thank you, I'll stick to Momotaro, Oni-Denim, and Iron Heart.
I love Samurai jeans 19 oz
They have some raw denim and pre distressed .. just depends on what you want
Japanese brands produce washed and even prefaded denim products too, eg OrSlow, Studio Dartisan, etc
Dont forget soso, unbranded and bravestar for the more bidget but bombproof brands. Especially soso their 33oz demin is ridiculous, also you can get it in double front which is crazy haha. 66oz of denim
Tone down the ignorance
Wrangler side. Pocket. In Jean not usual
I prefer Edwin jeans than Levi's.
why. why distressing it cost more to make. just wear it raw until it have the same effect
I prefer raw sex
카이하라 사브
But all of my Levi’s are made in Bangladesh!
Hey W.
Your steering wheel is on the wrong side 😅
hello ]
Are these jeans available in India?
Need to check their outlets
As cone denim do in China
Made
why not in raw denim condition only..?
Levis has raw denim jeans.
there's no options for dark brown jeans
I only wear Levi Jean's Boys and Germs...
Damn
Why is your first name W ?
El video fue sobre el y no sobre levis, muy malo...

Sorry mate only only momotaro jeans
If this is not a hipster made video I don’t know what is

The Levi's Born In Germany & It's Genuine Germany Premium Branded Product & Moved To San Fransisco In U.S.A Then Japan .
World best jeans my country bangladesh🇧🇩
The zip
How come there are made and handcrafted Levis japanese denim jackets made in China offered in your SEA website? Its already Japanese denim yet made in China? Thats stupid!
Nice the SM Citroën at the beginning of the ad. Actual Levi's don't last as before. It's really as bad as the other brands our days. .
Mine is made in China...
Pretty sad the original has zero production capabilities in USA. Will never buy imported Levis. Moved on to American Giant.
However, Not all Made & Crafted piece’s made in Japan today. I’ve found some of them made in China or Pakistan but disguised by put the Japan flag in the inside waist jeans and tell us Fabric from Japan. Lol
斜陽!斜陽!斜陽の国ニッポンあはあは!!(爆笑)🇯🇵
So sad how Japanese beat America and their own game😢😢😢😢
How can you say something is made in Japan when…. It’s not….
