  • If you have seen some of the older videos on this cab/ board you will know that this board has only had 5 working slots on it for over 2 years, here is a look at what the problem was.

Good work. Fixing all those boards, consoles and systems. You ispired me to do some local fixing when people have trouble with their stuff. Corrosion and dust are the two biggest problems. :)

Well my take on it is, you do your job, I will do mine and we both are making this world a better place. Taking advantage of somebodies bad luck isn't really a good standing point but some are either too lazy or the repair process is too complex. Good that you're around :D

If you ever get a chance it would be really interesting to see a video on your desoldering technique. I know how it's done but it's one of those jobs I still find a real headache to undertake. Mainly the thru-hole stuff like carts slots, BIOS and ICs. I remember you did one a while back on removing surface mount RAMs using a piece of wire soldered to a cap. It's always cool to see the tricks and tips others use to make a job easier! :)

Cool you got that fixed, a heap of traces on that board for sure. Hopefully it won't get any more trace corrosion.

If people do want to have batteries on their boards to save data. A great idea is to use a battery holder like Luke said in the video or shrink wrap the battery and have wires coming out then use a blob of hot glue to glue it back to the board, somewhere there is nothing to worry about.

You did not need to remove the slot to repair the trace, you could have simply jumped the trace from the slot to it location from under the board.

I was wondering... I have some SNES cartridges over here that have batteries inside to keep the saves... do these batteries also start leaking over the years? Should I start replacing or at least taking them out to protect the games?
Kind regards, a fan from Spain ;)

Some great content right there. Am I right in thinking these do fail more than say single, double or quad slot NG Mobos?
    Thanks,

Hey Luke, I've been working on a MicroGenius famiclone project and taking out the CPU and PPU chips and had a HELL OF A TIME desoldering them. So what's the trick/equipment to doing it correctly? I was using a soldering iron and suction tube, what do you use?
