My favourite moment of gaming on any platform was a few years ago in ARMA 3. My squad and I were tasked with infiltrating an enemy encampment in the mountains, disabling their RADAR system and marking SAM and AA placements for our CAS to hit. We got caught in a firefight for 7 HOURS. 7 GOD DAMN HOURS of ammo management, replenishment from dead enemies, purple heart-esque medic runs into enemy fire and dodging RPG's until we finally managed to get off the mountain. Then our helo bugged out and we all died. 10/10 would happily ruin my day again.
@@Joaquin-cr3kd this is maybe the biggest issue with ARMA 3.... They still use that ridiculous "action menu" that makes it WAY too easy to accidentally kill yourself when you're really just trying to do something simple. I wonder how many times people have ejected themselves from the f18 when on final approach to an aircraft carrier when all they were really trying to do is lower their tailhook?
I was in the Army, I've played dozens of "rEaLiStIc" military games and not one of them tasks you with sweeping a motorpool or managing your finances after paying for 12 cans of wintergreen copenhagen, enough beer to get Andre the Giant to puke and pay $764 a month for your 27% APR on a new V6 Mustang.
We need a game, just like the Modern Warfare 2 described by "The Onion" "The majority of gameplay spent hauling equipment and filling out paperwork" "Players will be tasked with scraping mud of HMWWV's, standing gaurd outside a warehouse for 10 hours and complaining about how bad the cell reception is" "you have to drive this supply truck from a village, to some other village. and when you finally get there, you get told the order was messed up so you have to drive all the way back" Just three of many great quotes from the video lol
I also haven't seen one with the sneaky bitch that steals your heart, gives you kids, takes those kids and ruins your life. That's a huge part of the MilSim experience if you ask me.
no shit there I was in Afghanistan circa '13 when I too came up with this solid game design. Including shamming out, hiding from your TL while at an "Appointment", sweeping the MP while it rains, coming in on your day off to move vehicles, etc.

I remember a base defense vs AI where we were supposed to meet extreme resistance but ultimately got maybe 10-30 hostiles approach from the north. Guy watching the south had 340+ kills and counting and we could just barely hear his silenced mk200. He just wasn't calling out contacts so we never knew.
I just passed 2000 hours in Arma 3. The one thing I enjoy the most is booting up the game, spending over 30 minutes on customization down to the minor detail, inserting and walking for almost an hour, being super tactical, just to hear a few cracks in the air and fall over and die after not having seen an enemy for 2 hours of playtime. It's my favorite game.
Youre the type of guy who has so much time in the world that all the tiniest details excites you. I was just like that, suppressing fire with my squadmates whenever they fire even though I had no idea where they were shooting at. But it was fun
fun fact, that's how most real combat in any kind of forestation is. just blind firing in the direction of the sounds of gunfire and hoping to god they dont get lucky and blind fire your way.
where do i find servers / communities who offer experiences like that? all i see in the arma server browser are team deathmatches & altis life servers. any communities you can recommend?

I'm one of those 12 year olds that wished i had these games, its shocking to see that people like these get so immersive and changes the fact thay you're not just playing a game but learning some tactics and having fun. Man i wish i had these kinds of games and hung out with these kind of people, its so rare for me to see people that get interested in these milsim shooters.

"Realistic multiplayer shooter that can take up 5-8 hours" y'all ever played foxhole? I only played only one match and i got like over 25 hours into it. One match can take upto 18 days. But nah, i prefer realism over casual shooters!
Foxhole is honestly one of the more unique top down shooters out there. Although the aiming imo is a little wonky and the gameplay has a little RNG in it.
You know that we do that in real life too, right? You have less than two seconds to "quickscope" a target and this is being trained thoroughly. Under 100m? Easy.

If you can find a band of nerds, you can also try playing Mil-sim mods for older games. Hideous Destructor for Doom is a pretty good start if you wanna try this out with a craptop computer.
Not really, as a D&D nerd and a little bit of a military nerd, milsims are more about top down structure and macro-tactics. D&D typically involves smaller battles and is more focused on individual heroism. Besides, milsims are played in realtime where as D&D is played in turns, and is more about micro-tacts. A better comparison would be that wargames are D&D for military nerds, but that's kind of a mistake because D&D was created by people who played wargames.
i wish i had some of these games, the whole communication aspect seems really appealing to me, also the more diverse gun customization is cool because it feels better to have this more personalized gun compared to "this is the most meta build because there is no more recoil and you have a laser rifle now".
except if you are playing something like 77th jsoc on arma 3.. you can customize a bit but hey, i just stuck with the rco since it works with thermals.

Call of duty: Get an airstrike Battlefield: You ARE the airstrike PR, Arma, (hopefully Squad): You mark the target, you talk to your commander, your CAS, you make sure you aren't hitting allies, you check your map *6 times*, and hopefully - you cleared the route. Then you get your transport squad to take you somewhere via heli, that heli where the pilot is a player and ONLY plays as a pilot throughout the whole round. Yes we don't want you taking marksman kit, and neither do we want you squad leading if you don't know how. These are one of the few communities that still have this level of dedication - if you are new to it, ASK and LEARN, I'm pretty sure we rank high in the 'being nice' department too.
Or maybe, just maybe you overestimate a video game and can't stand people that play in their own way. Yeah i get it, it's based on team work but still it's just a video game.
I've got 8 years and counting in the British army and... when I played Squad yesterday for the first time I was not only blown away (quite literally on several occasions...) but also realised the gamers are more professional soldiers than my unit and I am :D DAMN!!! :D
There is this tactical shooter that for me it's underrated with the following description from steam America’s Army: Proving Grounds is the official game of the U.S. Army and part of the highly acclaimed America’s Army game series. This free military game focuses on small unit tactical maneuvers and puts you to the test in a wide variety of new America’s Army maps and AA fan favorites.
Arma 3 Insurgency: Sandstorm Day of Infamy Red Orchestra 2 Rising Storm Rising Storm 2: Vietnam Verdun Tannenberg Escape From Tarkov War of Rights Post Scriptum All are fantastic games and are worth checking out.
Verdun and Tannenberg are in my opinion a great mix between a realistic military shooter and a normal one. Day of Infamy is a little like that, and so is rising storm. The most realistic is definitely Arma 3, and maybe War of Rights too
Tell him to check out War of Rights, a military sim based during the American Civil War. He'd probably rush into the enemy over and over as an Officer and keep dying Out of Line, meaning every one of his deaths would cost his team 5-6 tickets. He'd also probably complain that it takes approximately 30 seconds to reload the standard musket because he wants his airstrike.
someone get wolfire to quit that furry brawling game and give us a full version of recevier with a decked out set of weaponry and some actual levels, would be so much better.
Easily one of the most underappreciated games out there. Ironically, the already mentioned furry brawling game didn't *ahem* receive much attention from the gaming community either... Wolfire just wasted their time for nothing instead of bringing Receiver to the state it deserves. I have no idea who in their right mind would pick ninja rabbits over a gun handling sim anyway...
The best thing about milsim is that Kids online use the game 3 days and never join again, so you can play with people that really enjoy this type of games and know how to make a teamwork, this is the same that happen in every single simulation style game, for example in the Motorsports world (i'm a big fan of it) if you buy a Simulator like AssettoCorsa/rFactor2 or iRacing you'll see that there's no idiot kids online, of course there are bad drivers, but not kids going against the rules for fun every 5 sec.... Thanks god Simulation exist.
Yes....unless there's some free weekend for a game. I remember getting shot down constantly by teammates on DCS or getting rammed by others on iRacing and PC2. But generally, games with a steep learning curve end up like this.
MateoDeBonis that’s nice and all but I myself enjoy military simulation games I even went to a few airsoft milsim events and it is quite fun but I’m only 14, the thing is people assume since I’m 14 I’m some idiotic kid who doesn’t know how to do shit and it does get on my nerves quite a bit.
you dont need to specify 12 year old and second lieutenant as separate entities. They are one in the same in terms of personality, and leadership capability.
Dem junior officers amayright. Seriously though, in Hungary, during WWII if you had a degree they slapped an officers rank on your collar, no matter if you were 21. Supposedly the reservists still work like this. My father currently holds the rank of major in the reserves, with the grand total of 18 months of conscript service during the socialist regime. I seriously doubt the efficiency of such a system.
This is why I had a mod for stalker anomaly, where you had different mags and bullets, that you had to load in mags. I just love managing ammo and then just throwing it at enemies at super sonic speed
The difference between a casual and a professional in games: Casual: it’s okay I’ll respawn Pro: plays it like he won’t and that’s it he dies he’s done
Me in 2016 can't afford PC *Joins Army* Realistic as it can get Edit: I appreciate the amount of interior detail that went into the vehicles of arma because I been inside a Humvee, LHS, LMTV, and MRAP and that shit look solid identical to each other. Makes the game more immersive @-@
The best thing about these realistic shooters is that they're better than anything Call of Duty has to offer what with its regenerative health and action set pieces. With games like ArmA 3 and Squad, there's no regenerative health at all in these games. You get shot in the head you die, if you get hit by a single bullet, you lay on the ground incapacitated until you are revived by a medic (or corpsman if you prefer) and ArmA has an in-game editor where you can make your own missions. I spent a lot of time on Eden editor and I got to say, it is excellent.
I recommend you start off with Insurgency, it's the easiest one to get into out of all of them, good dev team too. I'm currently trying to get into Squad and it's looking pretty good. Arma is basically a final tier for me
@@Reragi hahaha well i did it the other way around and started with 91 keybinds which at some point i knew all in and out. Did i ever regret it? Not really, the only thing i regret is quitting that game

To be honest i don't really play Arma myself. Iv'e tried, but it takes a lot of time and afford to get into, which i don't have (work, study, other business and a different agenda every day). That's why i prefer single player shooters. Here i don't have to meet up on a certain time, and every evening. Instead i just start up a game whenever i got time for that.
@R4ktooN Anon Not only fun. These games are graphical powerhouses. As someone who's studying 3D environment art these games are blowing me away every time. It where purely the graphics that made me buy BF1. But than i almost cried when i saw people running into every direction instead of making use of the defensive structures. Also tanks that were way to fast for that time. Inaccurate soldier uniforms. Wrong armies at certain battles. lot's of black people (not being racist). But most importantly the atmosphere just didn't feel right. I'm a sad guy haha.
One moment that stands out in my mind was I was entertaining the troops in Arma 3 while we waited for the helicopter. I was scooting around on my butt like a dog with an itchy asshole does, while wearing a Ghillie suit, and making wookie noises. The helicopter pilot saw me as he came in, and flopped the Chinook on me, squishing me dead mid butt scoot, and my friend said in his best Harrison Ford impression, "CHEWY!!! NOOOOOO!!!" The other guys were laughing so hard, the pilot included, that we had to wait like 3-4 minutes before deploying, as the pilot couldn't keep the helo steady as he laughed. Good times.
I wouldn't say tarkov is close to a normal game at all. Definitely not 'milsim', but it feels more realistic than anything else I've played by far. And that includes Arma which can be very clunky at times.
@@anthonystanley4673 Try Playing Tarkov dude you will know the differences and how tense can it be when you were in a warzone and how screwed you can be when you are out of ammo and you must refill it somewhere on map before you can do extraction to complete your game and store your loots and sold them on trading please give it a try and im sure you wouldn't dissappointed
You forgot one of the best realistic FPS shooter of all time! I was a competition player with two clans for this game and there is nothing better today even though it is old by todays standards. Red Orchestra and Red Orchestra II are the best ever made and still have a following even though the world wide competition is no longer a thing. Check it out because you clearly have not played the best!
Being new to the game is ok. Making sure your mic is properly working, joining a squad and stating at the start that you are new is ok. Crashing a helicopter and killing 5 guys because you can't fly is not ok. Taking the medic kit but not knowing how to use it is not ok. You are part of a team in those games. Make sure you can do your part.
Fun story about me playing Arma 3. I was on the co operation server JSCO and my squad was sent to a side mission, we were not at all the best but it was a good vibe squad, anyways we landed at the LZ and moved on foot into the objective. We were tasked to blow up a enemy ammo depot and then retreat. Basically my whole squad died to an AA vehicle which was patrolling around, I was the last one alive and I had to crawl around a rock and perfectly time my movement to avoid being seen for a good 30 min, it was funny because it was so intense and all my team mates were talking me through everything, finally I reached my depot and blew it up and by this time my squad had flown back to me but I completed the mission, I had to hike down a hill to regroup with my squad to wait for extraction, while I was running down and chatting with the squad, bullets were flying past me and landing around me and I thought this were my team mates messing with me and when I got close to them and they heard the bullets they said I was getting shot. I was like “wait that’s not you guys shooting me” and they were like no and we all bursted laughing because a whole enemy squad was on the same hill I ran from and didn’t hit me for a good 10 min run don’t the hill. I live for moments like those..
How's the AI in ArmA 3? I used to play ArmA 1 and 2, but it gets frustrating fast when the AI gives you out of nothing an instant headshot whilst hiding in a bush...
Bro.... Playing SQUAD. 50 v 50.... Best feeling, is when you got a few squads attacking an objective, just to see an entire squad dedicated to helicopters, fly over, drop off six infantry behind the enemy, and then fly around the objective giving air support with the machine guns. Feels great, especially after you've been stuck at the same objective for twenty minutes, no one able to push forward.
Siege would be more tactical if they addressed their reloading and made the gunplay less arcadey to address the rushers and twitch shooters who aren't playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Also they need to add some gun sway when aiming down sights, especially when moving. That would fix the quick peeking and crouch spamming.
Rainbow Six used to actually be more sim. It's always been more casual on console (actually different games, I'm not joking), but the last true Rainbow Six game as far as the original vision is Raven Shield. Then the series lost it, as did most Clancy games.
Unrealistic. None of them promised I would be home by 16:00 but staying past midnight or have us looking for "missing" gear that was actually properly turned in hours ago.
And that's why soldiers get ptsd. It's not the bombs and bullets blood and guts.... it's the "I'm gonna get you guys out a here by 1600"... 2330 "hey top, do we really have to stay here because an it forgot to turn their nods in before leaving the TA?"
I can't wait for more AAA milsim type FPS games to take off in popularity. These are the exact types of games that I've been dying to play since I was a kid man. Plus the communities and the player bases in these games are always in it 100% with "role playing" and taking things seriously and playing the game in the appropriate way that they were meant to be played. I love it.
@@baronvonshekel7323 what’s so bad about that? I’ve got a PC and I want to be able to play tactical shooter with friends who are stuck on console, don’t be such an ass mate
İ'm an ArmA 3 heli pilot. my only job is to transport the squad i'm carrying to the objective - safely - as it might sound boring, and that you have to wait almost 20 minutes for a transportation, its one of the most fun i've ever had in any game. i'm missing the good old days :)
I remember me and my buddy set up a mission on arma 3 to rescue a downed pilot. We launched the heli from the carrier and landed 2 miles outside an enemy occupied hotel. Walked for over 35 minutes, only engaging 1 enemy silently, then dying an hour later to a sniper that was 800m away that we couldn't even see. We re did it over and over again. The whole mission took around 7 1/2 hours to complete and it took us two weeks to do it! Realistic war simulators are not for anybody, but I absolutely love Arma 3!
The thing about these genres are not about the gameplay and all the cool realistic stuff. It is teamwork and working in a team that makes it an amazing experience. That when you and your friends made up a plan for 1 hour straight and then executing that plan flawlessly makes it just so satisfactory. When you and the bois fly in 7 different helicopters and all just demolish a base together, that is the real entertainment right there.

"Players will be tasked with scraping mud of HMWWV's, standing gaurd outside a warehouse for 10 hours and complaining about how bad the cell reception is"
"you have to drive this supply truck from a village, to some other village. and when you finally get there, you get told the order was messed up so you have to drive all the way back"

I just passed 2000 hours in Arma 3. Lmao thats such an awesome thought. I never thought about it that way.
Woah... I've never heard so much truth lmao.

I live for moments like those..
requested to joing your squad
I ran for like 20 min died ran 20 min died and refunded the piece of shit

How's the AI in ArmA 3?
I used to play ArmA 1 and 2, but it gets frustrating fast when the AI gives you out of nothing an instant headshot whilst hiding in a bush...
Bro.... Playing SQUAD. 50 v 50.... Best feeling, is when you got a few squads attacking an objective, just to see an entire squad dedicated to helicopters, fly over, drop off six infantry behind the enemy, and then fly around the objective giving air support with the machine guns.
Feels great, especially after you've been stuck at the same objective for twenty minutes, no one able to push forward.

ok ima have to get a PC now i honestly didnt even know this was a thing i thought Rainbow Six Seige was realistic...
Oh boy rest in peace Ur wallet
Siege would be more tactical if they addressed their reloading and made the gunplay less arcadey to address the rushers and twitch shooters who aren't playing the game the way it was meant to be played. Also they need to add some gun sway when aiming down sights, especially when moving. That would fix the quick peeking and crouch spamming.
@@Offensive_Security1998 Yeah I know. It sucks
Rainbow Six used to actually be more sim. It's always been more casual on console (actually different games, I'm not joking), but the last true Rainbow Six game as far as the original vision is Raven Shield. Then the series lost it, as did most Clancy games.
Original Rainbow six is "SWAT Simulator", now it's arcade multiplayer shooter, R.I.P. Rainbow Six 1998-2004.
Bet you haven’t even played Roblox Phantom Forces smh
PF is so god it’s even better than every black ops!!
Scp 173 bruh
In ROBLOX there are realistic shooters too , try Blood & Iron or Falklands Mr Tumbledown
SCaPCs bud they are roblox, realistic means everything is realistic, not robloxy and blocky
DanielLikesFishing amen, squad and arma are prob the best realistic shooters out there
What attracts me the most is the COD Online clip in this video, tho I’ve been playing all those tactical shooters for long XD
0:47 i never knew the US Military knew about Imperial Star Destroyers, but apparently not they freaking took down one.
thats SWOP the star wars mod. Oddly enough ballistic weapons perform better in most respects, but the ammo is heavier.

Bruh holy shit you’re making me get flashbacks lol
Well, the longest time in Arma I had to wait for the god*ucking ammo for my squad was 1.5 hours in an 8 hour mission. I love this game.
Schneeflocke holy shit an 8 hour mission?
Gotta love the reserves
I can't wait for more AAA milsim type FPS games to take off in popularity. These are the exact types of games that I've been dying to play since I was a kid man. Plus the communities and the player bases in these games are always in it 100% with "role playing" and taking things seriously and playing the game in the appropriate way that they were meant to be played. I love it.
If tarkov comes to console I’d happily purchase again
This will, god caring, never happen and thats a good thing
Complex games aren't meant for beepboop beepboop consoles
@@baronvonshekel7323 what’s so bad about that? I’ve got a PC and I want to be able to play tactical shooter with friends who are stuck on console, don’t be such an ass mate
I love trolling people in these games. They are such LARP karens
@@baronvonshekel7323well some people dont have 2k to throw away on a pc that can get viruses and fuck up
İ'm an ArmA 3 heli pilot. my only job is to transport the squad i'm carrying to the objective - safely - as it might sound boring, and that you have to wait almost 20 minutes for a transportation, its one of the most fun i've ever had in any game. i'm missing the good old days :)
I love the Halo music in the background. Brings back memories.

I remember one time me and my buddy shut up nobody cares

this is amazzing i loved how it starts with a rant and drew just went " oh a genre "

Project Reality Battlefield 2 is a straight classic, amazing game and free. So many friends and memories made.
I actually played with him before lol
I couldn't even play it because of some mysterious connection error that wouldn't let me open multiplayer.
Guys its still rocking today :D - You can still catch 1 or 2 servers at any time pretty much in any time zone. BTW game is stand alone (free) now, you dont need BF2, just search Project Reality download. Hope to see you all there
