Another superb mix. Love the warmth in the low end.
I'm guessing the cover on the piano is to create a isolated space for the mics? How did you go about creating that?
Also just a mono overhead for the drum kit? For a more simple drum mix I could see that being perfectly usable.
Sorry for all the questions haha. I'm really impressed by the recording and mix quality given the home studio environment.

      Thanks for the comment.
The piano covers are just heavy blankets draped over the open lid. Along with the absorber panel behind the music rack, they are to stop the voice going into the piano mics and also to quieten the piano in to room so as to also cut down bleed on the vocal mic, as it was all performed live.
Drums are recorded with a spaced pair - if you look closely, the second mic is down by the floor tom looking over at the snare. Both mics are equidistant from the snare to ensure phase and mono compatibility. This enables the stereo width to be narrowed at mix if need be without effecting the snare tone from comb filtering. it also means the snare is always in the middle of the image. As It is a small room, I find putting up tom mics can cause a phasey mess so settled on this 'Glynn Johns" approach years ago. The side overhead picks up the floor tom beautifully.

Thank you for the detailed information! I saw that mic next to the floor tom but just figured it was specifically for the floor tom. That's a very interesting technique that I've never seen before. Now listening back to the mix I can hear the stereo image you achieved. Very interesting!
Also I hadn't even considered the importance of separating the piano mics from the live vocal performance. I can see how well it works in a situation like this. I've only ever worked with a vocalist isolated from the piano. I'll keep your info in mind if I ever get to work in a similar scenario.
      Thanks a ton.
