This doesn't mean Tyla isn't authentic, she's just from a different part of Africa. Fashion, music and culture isn't the same all over Africa. But she is authentically South African af .... just check how South Africans support the fk out of her in all these comments!

    • @choochooj9738
      @choochooj9738 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@deidrewall277 I’m fully aware that the artists mentioned are West Africans & equally aware that Africans are not a monolith, just like any other group of ppl. As there are 54 countries on the continent of Africa, with over 3,000 ethnic groups, speaking 2100 different languages, so your preaching to the choir with regard to the makeup of Africa & African populations.
      Never said Tyla was not authentically SA, at all. I simply agreed that many Black Americans support West African artist, as their approach entering our spaces was very different, their individual ethnicity was Never a focal point but rather their artistry first & their Nationality second. Whereas with Tyla & or her team, they made it a point to emphasize her ethnicity, over her artistry & Nationality, which was very different compared to fellow African artists. Guess an exception had to be made for Tyla for some odd reason. It appeared to many Black American’s that she was distancing herself from not only Black Americans but other Africans artist….
      To many, that came across as not only tone deaf but elitist to say the least. Many of us have yet to know what ethnic groups Tems, Burna Boy & Davido, etc belong to, without having to look it up.
      By an large, Black Americans can smell bull💩a mile away, which is why many of us found other African artists more relatable, in addition to preferring their music. African artists that crossover to the American music industry, are marketed to the Black community & for the most part. Simply put, other African artists approach to entering into our spaces came across as authentic & genuine, which Black Americans respect & appreciate at the end of the day😏

      I find it particularly interesting and I’ll always bring this example up. Not that you should compare the two, they are different artists in their respective rights but their come up is similar enough. They love love Rihanna(me 2 that’s my queen), so much so they think she is one of them when in reality she was in the same precarious situation Tyla is in. An immigrant trying to make it big. It’s a shame really that identity politics are trying to hamper Tyla’s hard work and it’s not even her fault. Trying to cancel a girl because of who she is ? Well talent always wins in the end, so she’ll be just fine.
