well done to Scott taking pride in his work...others might have left it as was..he is a true craftsman....those damn turtles have devastated native wildlife...need culling...need to get yourself a GoPro....did not know you needed a trading licence on the boat....cannot get rid of midges as they are a major food source for Swallows and bats....

Avon skin so soft for the mozzys. We get them bad in Spain with the pool. Just spray ankles. The original/blue one. 150ml is £2.50 Ish
We also use that when we can get it

i would think it good if you showed more of the dogs and when you do locks and go for walks etc take them with you so they get used to living on a canal boat as well.
British Falconry Fair is also on that banking holiday.

Hi Fran and Rich. Droitwich is a great little town and hopefully you'll be blown away by the festival. Although my boat's very near you I can't be there this weekend as I'm still clearing the house! Droitwich has an amazing long history and the museum in town is worth a visit. ENJOY!!

Oh yes! I love that weaving. I googled the looms but found it all a bit confusing and as I only have a 45 foot boat I’ll stick with my cross stitch for now. Thanks again.
Sylvia Page if you fancy having a go at the weaving do a search for ‘Saori weaving’, there are several studios in uk where you can have a taste session and use the looms. There is also a smaller version of my loom which folds up very small. Btw our boat is only 50 ft so anything is possible. Cross stitch is such a skill also so enjoy what your doing

I forgot to say. We wanted a new camera for filming for our channel and did a lot of research.
In the end we bought the Panasonic Lumix FZ330 and an external microphone. Only just got it but first impressions are great. The zoom is good and it films in full HD. Might be one for you to look at.

Good choice, I have one and works very well, it also does 4K if you need it. You will need spare batteries, they do not last long....

This is the first I have heard of the turtle problem, another invasive species..like the pythons and lion fish in Florida..USA....thank you not to the pet trade..wish I were crusing too. Take care xox

Just looked up things that cause mosquitos to someone..higher skin temperature, dark or bright light cloths, carbon dioxide expelled and according to Japanese study..the consumption of alcohol , Ndi thinkthinner skin..

Really really enjoying your journey, how lucky you are to be able to enjoy narrow boat life. I am still trying to persuade the wife to book a narrow boat holiday but it's so expensive when you have to book school holidays as the wife works at a school, maybe next year. When the kids were young we used to camp in France for three weeks at a time and i can swear by citronella candles for mosquito bites. Any way cant wait for the next blog your top of my list.

Thanks for the update as always I really enjoyed it. I’m amazed you’re finding the time to make the videos with everything else that’s going on. Fran’s hair looked lovely and shiny when you were on the boat chatting. You’ll probably pass us as you head down the GU onto the South Oxford as we moor in Ventnor Marina. Having said that we’re planning a cruise up the North Oxford and onto the Ashby so we’ll probably be heading off around the 14th May. The Boat on the GU and The Folly on the South Oxford are both great dog friendly pubs. You two certainly enjoy a challenge. Good luck.

Crikey you’re getting about a bit - good luck getting up Tardebigge, there’s a nice pub at Stoke Pound at the bottom of the flight - it’s Kingswood Junction where the Stratford meets the GU, a nice part of the country but as it’s my backyard then I’m probably biased - good luck and really enjoying you relaxed and natural style 👍
The staffs & Worcs. canal is one of our favourites, lots of tight bends beautiful lock locations like you say, can be shallow in places, interesting when it gets a bit busy.

The best and simplest way to keep out mosquitoes and bugs are 'bug screens' over your windows. They are quite strong and would also stop a dog jumping out. You can leave the windows open and the bug screen closed. Not sure if they have them in the UK but in the US and elsewhere they are very common.
Hi Andy, they are not that common over here, I have though of making some with flexible material and magnets but burning citronella oil seems to keep them out of the boat and we haven't had a problem inside

Can you show us your holiday house you might get a few bookings before it’s finished. How do you have a car and travel on the canal at the same time do you just leave it parked on the street? Also do you still go off to work each day. I’ll be over to the Uk in June and July I’d love to talk to you both.

youre hat is not silly it is benevolent of you /tried your bread REC. the way U make it but with a bread pan awesome/the bread pan has many uses Bail pan bolt holder can be used for oil drips or rain leaks(joking) not really has many uses

Regarding your licence I have also been watching another couple who have just bought their Narrow boat and applying for a licence and went through the dos and don'ts about applying for their Roving Traders Licence and how they could have saved a bob or too applying. far be it from me to upset the tranquility of the canal but if I would ever move to England and inhabit a canal boat my first furnishing would have to be some sort of a hi-fi system , probably a satellite radio of sorts
hi if you repair camera you can get a glass protector screen which i'v found takes a hammer with out a screen cracks same style as they use on mobil phones other one is ruber armed camera cover
Oh forgot to mention can we see the cottage and finished product, be good to show it as an advert as holiday lets?

Hello Roger, we had copyright issues with music we put up that Fran's son had recorded commercially. That allowed Google to put banner ads on our videos which we really hate. So video back up now minus the music. Thanks for your interest, Rich.
The trick with dogs on boats is not to show them where the land is but where the water is. Dogs are not good at making connections.
