I was worried I wouldn't find a character in Rivals 2 I would like to play, but Loxodont speaks to my very soul. Now all I need is that chef skin so I can cook people (...or perform some horrible spaghetti).
@@LazarNaskov oh wait, I misread this. I thought you were wanting there to be a chef skin (the existence of I was referring to), not wanting the one that already exists to be purchasable. That’s my bad.
@@firstwaddledee9182 Ah, no worries. I posted this not long after Chef Loxo was announced, so I was aware that it existed. Fantastic skin, 10/10 no notes
I wish you delved into his meatball a bit more. A huge part of his gameplan IMO is redirecting it with your own attacks which rewards experimentation and knowledge on ur end to get correct trajectories. Fantastic video!
I just haven't seen enough people using it well yet so I didn't feel confident talking about it more beyond the basics. I think you're right it'll be super important as the game develops though!
The reason I like Loxodont so much is because his design philosophy is one very deeply inspired by traditional fighters, yet adapted perfectly to a platform fighter genre. The combination of strong footsies, meter gain and slow moving projectiles to condition opponents, then absolutely blowing them out of the water with flashy specials and cash outs is just so perfect.
For some reason the chapter titles carried over from the last video I watched, so I’m at 1:37 and apparently this demonstration of Loxodont’s kit is titled “Woman Wishes ‘Good Luck!’ to Man She Allegedly Paid to Murder Her Ex-Husband”
Just stumbled across this video and this game, and I just have to compliment you on how incredibly tightly edited and scripted this video is! Like holy heck this is professional as all get out
Ah yes, the character who basically knocks the Rivals 2 contest character I made out of the running for Rivals 2 entirely. He looks sick as hell, but man... it hurts accidentally creating a character who ended up massively overlapping with Loxodont due to not knowing the character was gonna be in the base roster (For additional context, I'm ArtistOfSeer, one of the devs who worked on Vakna for the Rivals 2 contest, who is also a mid ranger heavy weight who manipulates magma, but is more so based off of Ridley than Dedede)
@atWisely I'd honestly recommend giving the other Rivals 2 contest characters a look at some point, not just Vakna. There's a ton of really well made characters that people put their hearts and souls into, so they're definitely worth your time.
Pretty sure loxo actually can get throw confirms! Dan talked about a unique mechanic with loxo where his down throw (which normally just sets opponents down into a tech situation a la snake) becomes a combo throw if he's standing on magma. This pops them up similar to Zetterburn's down throw, meaning he gets some juicy confirms into moves like back air and down b. Since he can spawn magma with his special pummel, you can set up kill confirms if the opponent doesn't guess right, or at least a guessing game between down throw and forward throw (which sweetspots if you DI out). Absolutely sick character, and great video!
I think you both under- and over-sold ftilt 1. If you don't cancel into ftilt 2 no follow-up is true and anyone can mash out with a jab or buffer shield/spot dodge in the middle of your pressure if they know it's coming (it's too fast to react to), which sounds like it's bad, but there is SO much RPS potential. Until they figure out it's not true you can loop ftilt 1 > jab, as they hold the opponent in front of you when used together. And once they do figure out it's not true, you can to hit them with every mix in the book: ftilt 1 > grab, ftilt 1 > shield, ftilt 1 > spot dodge, hell hit 'em with ftilt 1 > full hop > pick-a-move if you're feeling ballsy. My opinions on this move were a roller coaster last beta weekend, going back and forth between loving and hating it. But I think it's settled into being my favorite move, even more than his rocket jump (which is saying a lot)
Awesome vid. I didn't get much time to play him cause the beta was right on my finals week, but I really loved my time with loxodont and this was a really cool way to glimpse at what the rest of the community was doing with him.
I'm so excited for Loxodont, I don't really play heavies in RoA but the weight of his massive moves looks so satisfying, and I like lob projectiles (Ori main here) and he looks like in a world where everybody gets some cheese, he's just gonna play fundamentals better than you and stright up body you
@@atWiselyat 0:51, elevatorstuck kicks in. In Homestuck, the webcomic, elevatorstuck is a running gag in which nonchalant elevator music plays over scenes of Caliborn, a time traveling megalomaniacal dictator with a penitent for cybernetics demolishes people. It later became a general gag to play it in tonally inappropriate scenes. Given how much of Homestuck revolves around time travel, and the mention of robots, its a surprisingly spot on song choice. If that wasn’t intentional, you are very lucky. One might say you have all the luck, even.
Good video! Couldn't put Lox down last beta weekend cause he was too fun. Hopefully, I'll have time to try at least 1 other character this time around.
Idk if you want to do this, but i think it may be helpful to say who is the most similer from a different game. Im sure people are gonna watch these video to try to figure out who they wanna play. So if you were to say that zetturburn is like pm wolf, it could give people an more visual example of how the character plays
I usually have that in each video itself (at least briefly), do you mean like one video that covers every character specifically on playstyle comparisons?
I very much appreciate this video, especially as someone who didnt play Rivals 1. Where can I find similar resources for other characters? Hopefully here soon? :)
He mentioned in a community post he was thinking about making them for the returning rivals characters. I think its a great idea since so many people who haven't played R1 are here, also an excuse to talk about the changes the characters got going into R2, even though there aren't all that many.
I really need to find good, consistent ways to set up down special combos. I struggle really hard online with this character and I'm guessing that not being able to effectively use that part of him lets opponents feel much more open to aggressive play vs me
LOL I worked with an assistant editor on this one (usually I'm solo) and they added that. We literally talked about how I didn't know it was a reference
Orcane will probably be one of the characters available at launch if they aren't the character added for the July test. Devs said they plan on getting all the characters that were in the first game into rivals 2 eventually (Besides the guest characters)
just a low skill floor honestly which is why other games make heavyweights worse. seems like rivals wanted to be different so bad but like there is a reason heavyweights aren’t given all of this stuff… he is a brawler with a crazy punish game that can force you to approach and out range most of the roster

No, that's in my script
It feels weird seeing people who know about Loxodont's existence that aren't Rivals ultra-nerds.
So he's mix of Dedede and Ganon, but with a more controllable version of Wario's down special.
