About 20 years ago I was in a mini truck club and we were heading to Canada from Oregon for the Scrapin The Glacier show and I was trying to get my S10 bagged in time. I showed up to our meeting spot to roll out and when the saw my setup they about died, I was running a mono leaf with 4" and 3" blocks stacked together. They said I'd never make it to Canada.....I made it and won best under construction truck. I had axle wrap like a mofo but the stacked blocks worked fine, don't listen to the haters. Cool video man keep on MINITRUCKIN!!
Ahahah that's awesome thank you for the story.
Straight forward video that anyone can understand. Thanks, Lawrence.
Your welcome thanks for the compliment
I had a 79 shortbed once, and I pulled the cab and body off, plated the entire frame with 1/8 steel, shortened the truck 12 inches, and lowered it, and upgraded from a 20r 4 speed to a 22r 5 speed. Had white spoke wheels with 55 series tires..sharp looing ride, Ill have to dig for pictures. Also, upgraded from Armstrong steering to power..a nice touch
The mechanic assistant in the pink coat is adorable!! and btw, this helped me a bunch!
That was perfect. I had actually done this like 30 years ago and forgot how. I just purchased a 56 Bel Air and though the original owner did a 2 inch spindle drop on the front, he did not lower the rear, so I am going to lower the rear 2 inches...to start with. Thanks for the video..it was helpful!
Glad my video could help thanks for watching have fun with that Bel air
@delichips420 I'm not familiar with that truck but I would suggest installing a flip kit in place of the bolt them find a short grace 8 n bolt that will go through the leafs and for on the lowering blocks like other trucks do then you could follow through with the original plan how this helps
Hey bro cool footage one thing though a lot of truck like my suzuki samurai have top hats/bump stops. What should I do with em if the drop is too much when I im carrying passengers
I'm not sure I have always just taken bump spots out and deal with it.
Great video. I lowered left side first and then moved to the right side. The bottom bracket did not line up. Appears the axle moved forward on that side. Will have to loosen the the left side and line up both like you did before tightening the bolts. Thanks for the video.
Where can I get these square blocks at?
I have been looking around but can only find tapered one's.
Great video, tried dropping my 91 but the hole from the blocks was to small it didnt fit tight against the bolt of the leaf springs. They probably sent the wrong blocks. Any suggestions on how I can make them fit?
I have the same problem. Did you find out what needed to be done by any chance?
Your video was really good and clear. I would like to drop my 97 ranger 3" but the leafs are on top. Have no clue how to do what you did cause of that reason.
You will need a flip kit for the leaf springs so that there on the bottom of the axle
I love your videos !!!😍 I have 95 silverado step notched. ..I installed belltech 4in lowering leaf springs plus the flip kit plus 2in shackles it dropped it ass saging 12in...lol should i of used the stock leaf springs I think the flip kit and shackles would of bin sufficient the 4in lowering leafers over did it...thanks bud
Thank you. I would have left the stock leafs so you could still haul things around and pulled trailers with less problems bro but that is a bad ass drop lol
Great video and great work. how's the ride with it like this or do you have to mono leaf it? I have a 81 toyota and I just ordered the kit myself p
Thanks for this tutorial. I Got A 92 d21. Lowered the front using your other tutorial and now thinking about doing this set up. Really solid info in regards to lowering it this way. Thanks man.
Thank you very much and your welcome
Ive read online not to stack the lowering blocks! Do you have any issue or thoughts on that? Thanks for response
good video dude. i wanted to know, if you are going to take a leaf spring out anyway why not get it out when its all apart? im asking cuz i didnt see a video on that yet. thanks a bunch!
Man I love watching your channel , I have a 93 nissan hardbody that I'm customizing and I've done everything to it myself wth no power tools in the drive way also but I've done everything wth the help of your channel and you , thanks man!! She's tucking a half inch all the way around no bags just a static drop I got three inch blocks in the rear , mono leafed and I did a redrill and yesterday I took the blocks out and angled them its tucking wth factory 14 inch stealies and 195-75-14's I wana put titan rims or escalade rims on it wth maybe 40 or 50 series tires already got the frontier tailgate but anyways I've done everything myself in my driveway body work , primered and ready for paint and slammed it wth your help thanks man !!
Awesome glad I could help and thank you for the compliments
That's awesome I'm sorry I missed your comment I'm glad that I was able to help with my videos. Minitrucker4life !!
How long did it take you? Great content ✌
man you rock!!! i like the way you explain everything i was gonna teke my s10 to somebody to get it lower but by watching your video i think i could do it my self thanks
Thanks, made installing 3" lowering blocks on my 38 Chevrolet Master Deluxe easy. I prepped bolts with PB Blaster prior to braking loose, didn't wan to cut.
+Mike a nice your welcome glad my video could help
Great video dude quick question I have I 91 s10 my buddy has a 2000 s ten took off the lowering blocks and springs will any of that fit my truck mine is a v6 his is a4cyl ext
TO YOUR QUESTION YES ARMANDO THEY SHOULD WORK WITH NO PROBLEM SAME TRUCK JUST DIFFERENT YEAR & MOTOR
The best lowering vid yet! Thanks I'm dropping my S10 today.
Thank you and awesome
Thank you young man, I hope it's as easy as you made it look. Thanks again
Your very welcome. Let me know how things went. When your done.
love the video man!!! just subscribed to your channel. I have a 61 f100 that I'm trying to lower on a budget and this really helped out. Any suggestions for the front? I'm still running the original straight axle. Was thinking about just using some drop multi leafs or mono leafs.
very good video, even thought truck still looks high. I gave you a LIKE
Thank you and lol yeah it was.
Hey man ive watched a few of your episodes and just subscribed but I wanted to know if this lowering process will work with my 1979 datsun 620. Same with the front end. Cutting the springs will work right?
Do what he does in his video when he had a nissan
Hey buddy... Where can I buy that same set up? I would like to lower my Toyota 3in thx in advance!
I remember you selling your bagged Toyota. did you have shocks in the front? I tried putting on my Toyota but the travel space is too much for the school and it pops off. idk how other people run it just the bags?
I had socks on it I got a video of how I did it.
Got the Yota looking good....The Godfather of all minitrucks!I wish my girl was into the scene like yours...She refuses to let me throw my old Accord lowering springs on her Odyssey even though they fit right in!
If I have a 6 inch suspension lift is there any way I can lower the back about 2 inches without buy blocks? It's a 2005 f150
Buy lowering shackles that will bring it down two inches easy... And very easy to install and if you want two more inches install lowering hangers ....and but you said just two inches so just install the shackles they are like $40 maybe less you can find them at AutoZone or online
Would it be a bad thing if 4 inch blocks were installed instead of 3 inch? Or would it be better to just remove 2 of the 5 leaf springs? Thanks!
Your video for adjusting the valves helped me a lot, thank you =)
my truck is still stock and everything, coil springs in front and leafs in back. do I just need to buy a rear lowering block kit to lower the entire car evenly or do i need to get different coil springs as well thank you!
Hey man, good easy to understand video. I've heard people online mention that blocks can cause axle tramp? Have you had any issues with that? I'm looking to go quite modest on my block install (1.5")
You mean wrap yes of you remover leafs it can when over 3" blocks keeping all the leafs you wont have that problem.
wow finally after ages i found the video i was looking for, very professional and straight up, gotta go through a lot of bull shit videos before i got to this. tumeke my bro, this was very helpfull! gonna do the same to my dato 720, chur!
When you come across another kiwi 😂 shot uce, up the Wahs🤘🏾
how can I drop my truck to 4inch or max to 5inch low, I have a 1972 Datsun 620 truck and I want to lower it. I will try to use this set up kit you were using I might go to AutoZone and buy it here in Florida. Also is it safe to remove one leaf spring off to lower the truck ? just asking.. I want to drive in the highway safely at 60-70MPH without loosing control of my truck, if I'm carrying a 200lbs on my truck bed.
Adorable little girl. .I tried this on my 81 chevy Luv..alotta fab though with leaf spring holes
Great video short and to the point ! Thanks
Your welcome glad to help
Good video helping out the average Joe's out there keep it up brother
I'm new to mini trucks. I'm assuming the bigger the block the lower the truck will sit?
i appreciate the help man but I put mine in a little different instead of jacking up the chunk I jacked up one side at a time by putting the jack under the drum and yeah don't recommend that unless you have another person and both of you need to be strong enough to pick up the rear end I ended up having to jump back and forth from one side to the other to line it back up because my father could not pick up the rear end so I had to do it in the end I am very satisfied with three inches that on a s10 actually made it pretty low
question, how bad does it change the handling on the truck as far as turns on freeways and swaying? just curious. oh and props on this video.
Hey Duarte wich blocks are better the cast iron or the aluminum thanks for the vids
I've never used the cast iron but I really like the aluminum cause there is no chance of rust that would be my opinion between the 2 thanks for watching.
I have a 97 Dakota but a bolt is holding all the leaf springs together in the center won't allow my lowering block sit flush do to the bolt. What can I do?
how much did you lowered the front?...I recently bought a 96 tacoma and looking to put 3 inch lowering blocks..never done it ,but you made it seem very simple
+Bagofdope420 the front was lowered alot after this but at first only 2 inches to level it out.
hey Lawrence! i hope you're having a great day, I have a question about my shocks. I have a 96 Nissan and I'm going to be lowering it 2 in in the rear, my shocks are bad so while I'm down there might as well change them out. I'm having trouble finding what to use, what should I do?
+Daniel Nieves you can use stock shocks if your only going 2 inches hope this helps thanks for watching.
So if I get a 3 inch block does that lower the truck more than a two inch block ??
Did the top of the blocks have a down ward angle to them? Or were they square all around?
Square all over.
Referring to when you said "here we have a 2" block and a 1" block, together it is 3","
I know this question might seem dumb but i have a 1980 Chevy Luv it has the same kit you installed but mine has one full 3" block. MY QUESTION IS....
If i remove my 3" block and install a 1.5" block ONLY, does that mean my truck will go 1.5 inches lower?
More blocks lower less blocks higher.
Oh ok Thanks for the help! Now with this video il now how to install the taller blocks. Nice Hilux btw, keep it up.
Thanks great vid! Just one thing can you buy block kits form like amazon or are they really bad quality?
I've never purchased any from there so I really wouldn't know sorry.
Okey where do you buy yours? (:
At the local parts store
Very good video and very well explained thanks
You're welcome glad this could help
Could you help with the names of the all pieces of the front suspension. Thanks
Do you need drop shocks when you lower the truck I've go a 92 Toyota all redone bone stock but I want to drop it 2 in the front 3 in the back but I just put new shocks on it like 2 months ago
Can I lift my truck with this same leaf setup? I have a 95 dodge Dakota I wanted to lift but it has this setup
will u b able to recommend lowering.block kit for my 88 jeep comanche ? its not 4x4 so iv made it street truck
Will this work on a 84 chevy Silverado? If so can I lower it on all 4 ?
I appreciate the help brotha made the project sooo much more simple
Do drop blocks affect the ride quality at all. I am assuming no since you aren't changin anything to do with the suspension other than less clearance. But just curious. Thanks.
Right it does not.
Thanks. Appreciate it.
Your welcome
just lowered my 1999 chevy S-10 this video helped allot!!
He's got some videos on removing/flipping leafs for a Nissan Hardbody on this channel if that helps.
great video Larwrence :) how do i paint my front marker lights or smoke em???
Your username is fucking awesome 😂😂
@motowhip17 it gonna be low u may need to remove the bump stops to retain a decent ride.
AWESOME BROTHER!!! Good info..Gonna lower my Nissan Frontier this weekend..... BLESSINGS BRO🙏👍
Glad to help you're welcome.
hiii nice video.... thanx for the info, but how can u lower the front ?
Awesome video helped my s10 build alot
When adding drop block will it spot it from rear end jumping?
Lowering a truck depends on where you live and the laws and regulations for your area. If your worried about wears legal I would ask your local officials before attempting any vehicle modifications. Thanks for watching hope this helps.
Imma drop my chevy tomorrow after work ! Thanks ma great video!
Do you have a video on removing a leafspring? Thank you very much, and keep up the cool videos!
awe man im sorry to hear that ive been there before. and thank you for the compliment my wife says thank you as well. also thank you for watching .
what rim size? i have the same truck as you 75 toyota hilux am planning to lower it like urs got 15s rims hopping it would go lower than yours? .... would it be easier to loose the leafsprings instead of balancing the axel?
+Mike Count laser 18s and I ended up lowering it even more than this but I no longer have the truck
what would be a good height to lower to? I don't want it to low just a little maybe a inch or 2?
I've done that to my KUN hilux. I'm trying to put the bump stops back but it seems one side has heaps of room while the other hasn't. Dunno why or what the problem is. As the bump stops are required for it to be legally. Any suggestions will help. Thanks in advance
How many jacks do you have for this
quick question, i'm trying to lower my 1987 toyota pickup but my lowering blocks are tapered (2 3/4"-3 1/4"). so, my question is which side goes forward and which side goes backwards?
Thank you.
Nice and simple to follow. Nice to see you cut excess thread off
Thank you and yeah better than getting hung up on something.
Can u do a tutorial on the same but on a 2002 dodge caravan with leaf springs. Or advise what's best
how would you go about lower the front end of the truck?
+Madden Madness watch the video of me lowering it.
Madden Madness - Car Videos
Lowering springs
is it the same for the front ones too?
Is it always recommend for pinion angle when lowering the truck?
Pinion angle saves your rear end. Its always important.
@@earthscraper69 I have a 1986 Toyota xtra cab. Thank you for replying. New to the truck scene. Information are all over the place on the internet forms haha.
You're very welcome pinion Angle keeps your axle level so it can properly lub itself.
good stuff bro.. im about to lower my 2000 blazer 2 door..and this was a great help
i noticed that you didnt use shims to correct the angle of the rear end (pumpkin). I have blocks with that dont require shims bcuz they are angled at the bottom. Which way should the angle be facing. Long side towards the back or towards the front. I assume this will be more obvious when i see the angle of the driveshaft.
The angle would go down to the the front of the truck
Big thx cuz I got a 84 chevy and the set up was jus like u said thx once again
Hello.
I noticed the inside of the rim you have tape weights an MC clip weight. From my many many years in tires. So what im try to say is you have to much weights on that right rear wheel. You will only need tape weights in the middle of the wheel.. I know for sure discount tire has the machine to balance it right an they know were to put the weights in the right place. With the weights wrong place or to much weights or having them on the same side just in different position, counter bala
Cool. Any idea about a 3/4 88 suburban? Blocks, etc
+BIG POPPA G LOKS there's 2 kinds of reward ends axle over or under the leaf springs look at it if it's the same as mine this video will work to help you
I dropped my nissan frontier like this why would one side look higher than the other
If you have any ideas pls feel free to share with me thanks
love it! my buddy and i are going too slam his 01 ranger. hes going to order a flip kit soon. he plans on c notching the frame.. all static.
Is there any rubbing in a Nissan hardbody when dropped 3inches??
yes but never stack blocks get the exact size you need
I like your videos man,my mini is now kissing asphalt thanks to you!!!!!
hey just got me a daily 1980 Toyota. lol gave 2 kicker 15s and a amp for it and drove it home with AC and 120 K and 22r
i tried taking a leaf out with a hilux. we got all the way up until one bolt that would not come off. it stripped so we had no chance in taking it out and no replacements to put in. the truck is still sitting high :(
So if I put 4 in block kit on my chevy colorado 2012 I won't need to do anything esle?
i would say up to 4" is safe they make blocks that are 4" anything more than that and you will get alot of axle wrap and thats not good.
Would the driveshaft be able to hold the axle from rolling forward?
Do they make drop spindles for a 80 toyota hilux how did u drop the front?
@MajestikSkillz916 using lowering blocks will not change the ride quality and it will lower your center of gravity giving you less body roll hope this helps thank you for watching
very helpful, thanks you have earned yourself a knew subscriber
thank you very much.
Just curious i seen that autozone & O'Reilly has blocks that they sell can i use those ? Or are they supost to be specific for the make and model of the truck ? Any help is appreciated
Yes you can use those.
Oh for sure thank you. You help solved my problem now.
Thank you great video man 👍🏽
